Title: WIP Adeptus Custodes army
Description: FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!!!!

kaleb daark - May 20, 2008 03:23 PM (GMT)
Hi Everybody

Iīve been working on building up this Adeptus Custodes Army for about 6 month now (there were a lot of bitz to gather... :P ), They were on hold but some friend of mine got me back at it.

I bluid this army in order to be able use' em with either Space Marines or Daemonhunters Codexes.

I tried to get the closest I could to the Horus Heresy artworks ( except for the marines squad),...... but Iīm no sculptor.

So here are the (bad) pics of the work in progress

The first Emperor figure

user posted image

Itīs the Ronin miniatures figures, though Iīm quite happy with the paintjob I always found him too short....

The new one

Hereīs the new version it was sculpted by David Raffetin ( Raffy10 on cool mini)

The Emperorīs retinue

I know the standard is kinda weird looking. Just imagine the custodian running really fast (joking here, Iīll fix this later

user posted image

These last ones are from Velardīs but I must say Iīm not so happy about them, they just donīt fit in with the rest , Iīm converting new ones....

Custodian Marines

I used every Mk1 to 5 OOP figure I had, plus some plastic ones to complete.I Know itīs not really accurate but I wanted to use my oldies (And I might be a little bit of a showoff :P )

Iīm also working on 2 dreadnoughts (FW), a Land raider and some sisters of silence.
Iīll post pics of these later.

If you have any question feel free to ask.

I was only perusing this lot on B&C at lunchtime. There's some really great work here, especially the Emperor, plus the OSL and glowing eyes on several models.

Good to have you here, Ju user posted image

Those Custodians look really, really good. :) I think the bases set off the metallic colour very well.

Vredesbyrd - May 20, 2008 04:09 PM (GMT)
Some amazing looking stuff here mate, definitely some of the best Custodes I've seen.

Just looked over at Velard's site, he doesn't seem to sell the Custodes any more, is this right or am I just useless?

BigWill - May 20, 2008 04:15 PM (GMT)
No I think GW slapped them with the ole IP infringement stick

No, the moulds are "officially" broken.

Those are some good looking models there
can u give us some tutorials on how to make 'em?

GreyWolf - May 21, 2008 03:44 AM (GMT)
Looking great man, these Custodes rank up there with Dave Taylor's, in my opinion. I really like the Terminators, and the work on the "basic" Custodes is very good. I'm very much looking forward to seeing the rest of your work when you get that camera working again.
By the way, welcome to the boards. B)

kaleb daark - May 21, 2008 07:24 AM (GMT)
Thanks every one for your kind words

Sure mate sharing is my modo .
Since I still have some Custodian knights left to convert I definitely can prepare an illustrated tutorial for them. As for the narines and terminators.... I donīt have enough bits anymore. Iīll try to prepare something.

With the French Waaagh Day coming,I got back to the Custodes

I Have to finish 750 pts by 06/28

These pics were taken yesterday afternoon, I got more job done since, in fact I only have the details left to do ( eyes, purity seals, tabards and freehands on the banners)

Now the pics

The Terminator Squad

The two squads

user posted image

It won' t be included in the FWD army but I thought It was a good idea to show it to you all ( to get some advices for example ;) )

The dreadnought

user posted image

He's of course far from beeing done .I thought I could add a bell above ( kinda like Dave Taylor did on one of his)

I' m also working on another Emperor figure

Here it is
Hope you'll enjoy it

Kaleb Daark

BigWill - June 1, 2008 03:05 PM (GMT)
Your right it does need something but the Bell would be wrong(already done)
I say if you can get one use the top to the ForgeWorld Black Templar Dred with the skeleton sitting on top or a massive banner that is from the Unification Wars.
Since he's a dred now He probally bought it on Terra

Auzzierulz - June 2, 2008 09:08 AM (GMT)
absolutely fantastic! these would have to be one of the best miniature models ive ever seen!!!!! any chance of getting some tips on the paint scheme u did?

Of course mate
Sharing is my modo!

quite simple in fact:

first coat of shining gold
then a brown ink
then a mix of 50% shining Gold / 50%mithril silver

the plumet , capes and tabards were painted with

a first coat of mechrite red ( foundation paints)
a wash of scorched brown
a mix of mechrite red and bleached bone for the highlights

the silver ornaments were painted with
a first coat of boltgun metal
then black ink
then mithril silver

Any other question?
feel free to ask!

Happy new year everybody
long time no see :P

Here are a few updates ( the pics aren't great but I still didn't won the lotery so no new camera...)

As you can still only minor use of GS, bits bits and bits.

And last but not least

my new Custodian Dreadnought

unpainted (and with a shoulder pad missing)

Then painted

user posted image

This one is trickier than usual, I wanted to get an older look for my dread; so my friend Tiriel gave me that idea. It's mostly based on Sentinel and dreadnought bits and a lot of plasticard ( also the fist comes from a Gundam kit , the guns from Imperial guard Heavy weapons and the Head is an Old Epic Titan which was refered to as Custodian Head, I couldn't not use it in my army :P )

kaleb daark - January 9, 2009 12:29 PM (GMT)
Now the tutorial on how I did my Custodians

I must warn you though You should have a Huge bits box (or bank account) ...

1: what you need

user posted image

1 plastic marine commander's cape
2 Dark Angel veteran legs
3 Space marine arms (chaos or loyalist it won't matter)
4 High elf spears ( most of the time you'll only need one but you know)
5 Winged Skull Icon from the HQ marine squad
6 Winged Icon from the HighElves Spearmen
7 hands from the Chaos warriors
8 Marine shoulder pads
9 spiky bits from the chaos warrios
10 a bolter
11 Chaos marine back pack
12 A Tomb Kings Sword ( can get it with either the squelettons of chariots)
13 A High Elves Silver Helms head
14 This Chaos marime helmet ( to get the plumet)

not show the front of a marine torso ( the MK8 plate aldeardy has the collar but any thing can do)

2: What you can also use
user posted image
user posted image

These capes are from the Empire Plastic general and High Elves archers
These Heads are from the High elves Spearmen and Chariot (the chariot ones already have the plumet) but remember both are abit smaller .

The legs can also be replaced with regular or chaos marine legs
You can also use Dark Elves spearmen spears
For the marines shoulder pads..... just use what you can get your hands on

3: Let's play

user posted image

Cut out the back of the torso from The DA legs and glue the cape and front torso together

user posted image

The tricky part is the hands and spear .... start with gathering what you'll need then cut out the forearms and hands and the weapons from the Chaos warriors hands(7) . Then cut a part of the spear ( approx 1,5 cm)

user posted image

If you don't want your Custodian to fall into pieces each time you touch it ( belive me it really happens) Drill the hands through and use whatever thin metal rod you can get. You'll also have to drill the middle spear bits on 2mm each side
Then cut the right arm just under the shouder ( he ain't be holding a bolter )

user posted image

Now you'll have to position everything and see how this gets together
you'll need several attemps before getting a satisfying result

user posted image

Once you'll get the above stated satisfying result glue the hands and middle spear on ( again think drilling ....)
And glue the legs too you'll see what the general pose of the figure will be .

user posted image

Now cut 2 other bits of the spear
IMO the lenght of the High Elves spear is quite good you can use that to make sure your Custodians have the same lenghted spear

user posted image

Glue the bolter on the spear, Then the Tomb Kings blade (12 ) and the chaos spiky bit (9) on the bolter.
And glue the pads on. Take the winged skull icon (5) cut out one wing and glue it on the right shoulderpad, (5) (note you might have to dremmel it a bit inside to make it fit well))
Now if oyu didn't use a Mk8 Front plate ( just like here) you might wanna add a collar ( it will hide the flesh part of the Silver Helm head...):
A small bit of plasticard 1cm long and 2 or 3mm high that you'll glue on....

user posted image

Now glue the Silver Helm Head (13) on which you'll glue the chaos marine plumet (14)

user posted image
user posted image

We're almost there, the back pack
You cut the High Elves winged Icon (6)in 2 ( cut out the gem) and glue them on the Chaos marine back pack (11)

user posted image

Glue the backpack on , a base, Et voilā !
It might seem long and tricky (sometimes boring even) but when you love....

As Usual Comments welcome

I have several comments Ju! Not all of them printable on a forum! :D

Where have you been?!

Good to see you around, and these conversions are top drawer. I see that the nutty French Professor that is Br. T has been influencing you too!

Thanks also for the tute, looks like a great way to get them made - if not a fair job to source all of those parts.

Welcome back mate.

ShroudFilm - January 9, 2009 01:07 PM (GMT)
