Title: Guardians of the Choral City
Description: Vardus Praal

Brother-Captain Basilus - April 17, 2008 01:27 PM (GMT)
Hi all :)

I think after rereading Galaxy in Flames again, I'm tempted to build up a small 1k poins army of Guardians of the Coral City, using Vardus Praal as overall commander. Also I wnat to include flying Guardians, and a huge organ with monstrous pipes and lots of servitors ;)

So, here are my two questions:

1. Which armylist to use ? For me making the models is more important, but having 1k points of models sitting around and not able to play some games with them hits me...
I thought either:
- good ol' Space Marines
- Slaaneshi CSM
- Eldar
- Necrons

2. Are there any more infos on Vardus Praal aside from Gif ? Maybe in the artbooks ?
The only infos in the book are that he carries a spear, very ornate armour and something doom-siren-like.

Any infos, suggestions and additional tips would be greatly appreciated :)

BCB

Nice idea. I considered this myself but gave up after I couldnt think of a concept for the glassy-armoured troopers.

As for list, I would say either CSM (assuming the new list has special rules for sonic weapons?) or eldar (I immediately thought of eldar when I read about how athletic some of the troops were, although I have no idea what the eldar rules look like).

I think personally I'd choose eldar over csms, because the guardians didnt scream space marine at me as much as they did eldar, and you can still field the flying troops as Swooping Hawks, and maybe use Howling Banshee rules for the sonic weapon business (assuming they still have their Banshe scream rule?)?

Great Idea! As far as I know the only info on Vardus Praal is in GiF sorry :( . Are you intending on including warsingers in the army?

Brother-Captain Basilus - April 17, 2008 04:58 PM (GMT)
Yes, sure ;) Depending on what armylist I'm gonna use I wanted to include 1 or 2. I made a prototype warrior once, but that seems to have been lost with the old boards <_<

I'll post new pics of him and my Vardus Praal conversion later..maybe even today :)

When I read the book I thought of Imp Guard stromtroopers
I dont know why, but that was what I thought when I heard about black armor-clad troops

Very nice! Love those Servitors... "Ja. Das Hokey Kokey. Ja. Das Hokey Kokey."

I would say, I considered the Eldar list for Choral City warriors too. If you're concerned about sonics, the Howling Banshees have their masks...?

I have a Warsinger in the works too, along with my Megarachnids. It'll be interesting to see how mine compares to yours.

Iacton - April 18, 2008 02:20 PM (GMT)
Flippin' hell Shroud! Now you've got me stuck on them being Kraftwerk *We are the robots*

Love the thought process here, BCB. Really interested in how Praal turns out though

Brother-Captain Basilus - April 18, 2008 02:25 PM (GMT)
Oh well, just for you, Iacton, here is more progress on Praal, now, let's say...85% completed ;)

Nice work mate. Loving the details.

Is this reminding anyone else of the Daft Punk videos though? The space band cartoons

I consider him done, (only some GS-clean-up) but if any of you have any suggestions, I'm open for them :)

Hot damn you work fast! He is superb.
Think the neck guard needs a bit more attention and what about the big bits on his back?

Weiss - April 18, 2008 04:00 PM (GMT)
He looks absolutely great man! I'm loving the GS work. Where did you get the doom siren?

I love Daft Punk too, maybe it's a southerner thing...

Brother-Captain Basilus - April 18, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)
Weiss, not sure I got what you meant...the doomsiren is from the Chaos vehicle sprue...I'm surprised you didn't know that ;)

Sillybugger - April 21, 2008 01:56 AM (GMT)
Nice model. I like the shin guards.

I can't see why that looks like Daft punk, if the model had that helmet they usually wear then I would understand but its probably my lack of imagination

Weiss - April 21, 2008 07:08 AM (GMT)
Sorry, I've never brought a Chaos vehicle before... Though I'm going to have to soon to get hold of havoc launchers...

ShroudFilm - April 21, 2008 12:27 PM (GMT)
I think the Daft Punk reference comes from the fact that it's two guys playing keyboards in a sci-fi manner.

Alright, here's pics of the painted Vardus Praal. It is a really rushed paintjob which took me only about 2 hours.

And the Servitors with their new base :) Enough space behind them for huge organpipes.

For anyone interested, this is the form I made for Praal's greaves:

They look great! I particularly like the fact that the thing on the back of the sergeant looks like a tuning fork - very appropriate! And the Swooping Hawk bodies (they are Swooping Hawks right?) are perfect for the athletic guardian types.

Any chance of a close-up of the servitors and organ now that they are painted?

ShroudFilm - April 22, 2008 11:46 AM (GMT)
Yes, close ups of the servitors! Praal looks stunning!

Brother-Captain Basilus - April 22, 2008 12:51 PM (GMT)
Your wish is my command -_-

Keep in mind that they're far from being finished by now.
