Title: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Description: Everyone please read!
Ilmarinen - January 4, 2013 01:32 PM (GMT)
TIME FOR AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: WE ARE MOVING TO A NEW FORUM!
There is a new home for the TGC community: The First Expeditionwww.thefirstexpedition.com
Our new name refers to the first exploratory fleet to embark on the Great Crusade, after the end of the Unification Wars.
As the first Crusade fleet, the Emperor himself would have accompanied it for a time, before any Primarchs were discovered.
As the longest Crusading fleet, by the outbreak of the Heresy the fleet could also be one of the furthest from Terra. With a mix of the original Terran veteran Legionaries, and more recent reinforcements, who knows what loyalties the Legions present will have when they hear of the Heresy...?
We are moving to this new board for some practical reasons:
1) As most of you are aware, Laurie is now employed by Black Library, and is doing a damn fine (read: amazing) job! To avoid any possible suggestion of conflict of interest, he has voluntarily relinquished his Admin responsibilities for our community. I am happy to say he will continue to provide Moderator support but, to be completely clear, he is in no way connected with the executive decisions of the new board.
2) The opportunity to set up a new board has allowed us to develop a new logo, which many of you will be pleased to see is slightly 'easier' to wear in public! Expect to see a thread for new hoodies and t-shirts soon.
3) Our new logo will also be our campaign badge, for those of you who want to have a TFE identifier on your miniatures. We've put together a PDF transfer sheet for those who'd like it (in both A4 and US Letter sizes!).
4) The First Expedition is more than just a passing reference - it will also be a fantastic sandbox for us to set TFE events, at various points in the 30K timeline. In this oldest of Crusade fleets, who knows what loyalities the Legions present will have...? That choice will be yours...!
Obviously it will take a while for this move to settle in - please bear with us while we all make the transition. And please let me know if you have any suggestions.Well, what are you waiting for?! GO AND REGISTER ON THE NEW FORUM...!
You will also need to reply to a post (I'd suggest the Welcome Thread) in order to be able to then start your own threads.
=============================================================Centurion Daxios stared out at the host of ships assembled at the Jovian shipyards. From shadowed crenelated behemoths to tiny slivers of reflected light, the sheer number of ships was staggering. He turned as three bulky figures joined him at the viewport, all similarly armoured in the new Mark II battle plate.
“Quite a sight, isn’t it?” said one, garbed in armour of jet black.
“It is indeed,” replied Daxios, as they gripped forearms, “Well met, Sergeant Tacitus of the First”.
“This is Sergeant Devoran, of the Twelfth Legion,” said Tacitus, gesturing to a heavily scarred Legionary, “And Primus Medicae Hyperion of the Dusk Raiders,” pointing to his bearded second companion.
“Centurion,” said Devoran gruffly, as Hyperion gave Daxios a curt nod.
“So, the Unification Wars are over at last,” said Tacitus, “I heard the last Neptunian rebels were exterminated on Nereid by the Second Legion.”
He paused; then added, “Took them long enough.”
“And now The Emperor’s eye turns outwards,” said Hyperion.
“Well, we weren’t created just to conquer the Sol system, were we?” said Devoran bluntly.
“No, indeed not,” replied Daxios, “Time to bring the light of the Imperial Truth to the darkness.”
“Then just as well we have an Imperial Herald to pronounce our arrival to whoever is out there!” added Tacitus, tapping the sigil emblazoned on Daxios’s shoulder guard.
“And just as well you’ve got me to patch you up again,” said Hyperion, throwing a look at the War Hound, “Since some of you seem incapable of avoiding getting injured in even the smallest engagement.”
“Do you even know how to use all that fancy new equipment you’re carrying?” said Devoran.
“I might ‘forget’ when it comes to your turn,” replied Hyperion with a grin.
The four warriors regarded the armada, hanging in space beneath the immense arc of Jupiter, its cyclopean vortex of crimson and violet staring like a baleful eye.
“Do you think we’ll ever find …them?” Tacitus asked quietly.
“It seems unlikely, but I honestly don’t know,” Daxios replied.
“They’re probably dead,” grunted Devoran, with a shrug and a growl of servos.
“But… just imagine they’re not,” Tacitus continued.
“Then let us hope they’re happy to join the Emperor's Great Crusade,” said Devoran grimly.

Hi Ilmarinen, will our details be transferred across from here or do we have to re-register? If so, what happens about our payments please?
Ilmarinen - January 4, 2013 03:34 PM (GMT)
You need to go to the new board and register.
Any payments you were making to ShroudFilm will stop (I don't think he took any for a while).

Brother Handro - January 4, 2013 09:15 PM (GMT)
Hey Il, I have registered for the new forum, and logged in (and out, and in again), but it still won't let me reply to the welcome thread. Am I doing something idiotic? I'll wait a while and see what happens... <_<
Other than that, I'm still not sure why we need a new board, just because Shroud is inside the compound. Is this forum going to die? :(
BigWill - January 4, 2013 09:54 PM (GMT)
It gets complicated since Shrouds name is on the regi and the time has come where it would be better for him if it was not.
I belive they said the old threads would be archived, but sometime in the future
Sooner than later this board will be closed with all new posts on the other.
Never fear the new board looks identical and will be the same place you know and love.
Even has the same background

Just to clarify, in case there was any confusion - the great community we have built and developed here at TGC is not changing in any way other than name and location. Quite simply, for legal reasons (the exact nature of which I can't say...) it would be much simpler if I were no longer the admin or owner of the Great Crusade domain.
GW and BL are not pushing this in anyway - this is completely from my own decision. I realised about a year ago that, since I could no longer allow discussion of certain topics or the promotion of certain events/groups, I was impacting upon what could be discussed here in our friendly little corner of geekdom. Rather than inhibit the freedom of other members to post whatever they'd like, I will instead help out wherever I can in the new order of things.
As Ilmarinen has said, the new forum will begin much as this one did, running alongside the old Pre-Heresy Forums. We will make the transition as easy as possible, and hopefully the new drive will recruit many more new members as well. Once the domain name lapses, we will set this board to 'read only', and allow threads to be copied across or started fresh over there.
I'm in a unique position, being able to commission and edit the stories which form the basis of the hobby that we all love, and I'd hate for people to think that there was any conflict of interest there.
As it is, I am "withdrawing from the Great Crusade, leaving my capable sons to run things in my place". Sound familiar? :D
Let's just keep an eye on Ilmarinen. He's got the look of a heretic about him!
Calgar 2.0 - January 4, 2013 10:57 PM (GMT)
Well, I registered on the new forum. But how do I reply? It keeps saying it's not allowed.
Brother Handro - January 4, 2013 11:43 PM (GMT)
Calgar, heh, glad it's not just me then.
BigWill - January 5, 2013 12:20 AM (GMT)
That's not how I remember the beginings of TGC
I remember an discussion where the admin took his ball and went home :D
Even though it did have the feeling of a violentless coup :D
This transition should be much smoother ;)
Do you think he pulls his beard out with how you turned out working for BL and all
Ilmarinen - January 5, 2013 01:12 AM (GMT)
Laurie has abandoned us - I must burn his Empire to the ground for my own inexplicable reasons! Bwahaha! ...oh, sorry, got a little carried away!
Sorry to everyone who has had problems registering and posting - should be fixed now. Please try again! (let me know if there are still problems!)
kwll - January 5, 2013 01:17 AM (GMT)
Hmm have registered and it dosnt like me either, as unable to reply it must be a glitch will try tomorrow. :(
Ilmarinen - January 5, 2013 01:46 AM (GMT)
Ok, Kwll is sorted, and there shouldn't (hopefully) be any more issues registering!
Adenn - January 5, 2013 02:26 AM (GMT)
Thy will be done, i'll rebuild threads over there when i get around to posting anything :P
Apologist, you should redo the epic blog thread so we all have somewhere to post that stuff when we actually get things done!
Ilmarinen - January 5, 2013 02:17 PM (GMT)
Ok folks - things seem to be working properly for registering on The First Expedition so everyone keep heading over to the new board!
Maratheus - January 5, 2013 06:01 PM (GMT)

BigWill - January 6, 2013 04:00 PM (GMT)
Same Great place but with half the calories
Pacific - January 7, 2013 10:40 AM (GMT)
See you on the other side guys, and goodbye weird drum-playing bear avatar that I haven't been able to change for some reason! :D
Thanks again to Laurie/Shroudfilm though for running this board so well for so many years, helping to build such a great community, and ultimately providing many hours of enjoyment. It's been really appreciated mate!
It's amazing how such a small niche of 40k has grown from a few guys on here showing their mk3 conversions, discussions about the little hints of that previously mysterious era of 40k history etc. and to see that little niche get taken up 'officially' as it were, and developed into the now fully fleshed out fictional universe it has become - and the TGC forum has been there through all of that!
And so here is to the future years and the continued perseverance of this rather keen (and at times, rather nutty!) fan community
*auld langs eye plays in the background* :D
Ilmarinen - January 10, 2013 08:45 AM (GMT)
So far 93 of the 1,487 members of TGC have transferred to the new board - keep coming across guys and gals!
