Title: The Moritat
Description: What does he do then?

I 've been wondering to my self what role the Moritat plays within legion structure/ operations?
The different designations of the legion centurion all seem to be pretty self explanatory through either name, wargear of special rules. However the rules and equipment of the Moritat seem to suggest a holywood gun slinger.

I did a little search for the word 'Moritat' and although there didn't appear to be a direct translation it seems to come from the german word for murder.

Has anybody any thoughts?

Cheers

it's possible that moritat's were some form of warlord in pre-unity terra, since they seem to be linked to the destroyer legionaries

A Moritat is a form of Ballad an example is Mack the Knife.

Moritat is derived from murderous deed (Mordtat) or morality (Moralitšt).

I think the Moritat Centurion is a combination of gunslinger and Legion Destroyer officer with a bit of Assault Captain thrown in.

Rob Sanders had a story in the Games Day anthology this year - 'Distant Echoes of Old Night'. It has a Chaplain from the Death Guard operating alongside a Destroyer squad, under the orders of a Moritat.

The Moritat himself is described as something like a connoisseur of destruction, who takes great pleasure in specifically engineering often quite elaborate forms of death and corruption upon his foes.

That's useful to know Shroud. So is it safe to assume that where as the other centurion upgrades represent specific ranks/definitions and specialisms, the Moritat represents a particularly sadistic individual that doesn't have a recognised rank but has extensive experience in the use of Destroyer sanctioned weaponry?

It could well be - as we know from the intro posted online months ago, in 'Betrayer' ADB has a main character who is a Destroyer, too. I don't want to spoil it, but that'll be worth waiting for, to see how they operate within a Legion. :)

Gah! So long to wait.
