Title: Pre-Heresy White Scars
Description: ...starting with my Captain

Aventine - September 21, 2012 05:51 AM (GMT)
So I am jumping back on the Heresy train once again. This time I am going for some good guys, and more importantly, some guys who were on Terra. I am thinking that I'll use the White Scars 30K rules and for 40K I'll play the army as Ravenwing. I'll make most of the Bikers from Dark Vengeance guys with FW armour MK sets. I had this old Master of the Ravenwing sitting around in a Lamenters scheme, so I decided to make my warlord. What do you think of the mods? I made him a little less tribal with the thought that he is a Terran veteran, not someone from Chogoris.... his top-knot and skull trophy could be ways he is attempting to fit in/ identify with the troops he is leading...

Progress will be slow (ish) but I am looking forward to this army immensely...

Very nice conversion and paint job; we look forward to your next update.

Looks really good, and most importantly like you have got a solid recipe for the white! Really neat painting as well, and nice contrast of colour between the white, gold and rich red.

I like the idea of the Terran veteran leading the force, and it will certainly create some interesting modelling opportunities to differentiate that in the future models you build.

The White Scars tend to be one of the lesser-represented legions in miniature form, so will be interested to see where you go from here!

lookin great man! can't wait to see more and I can't wait to cross blades one of these days!

Ilmarinen - October 16, 2012 08:18 AM (GMT)

Fantastic White Scars! Really nicely shaded white and I particularly like the way you've done the tribal markings - a sharp contrast with the white but not overdone. Superb!

Aventine - October 16, 2012 10:07 PM (GMT)
Thanks! I use a gray wash straight over a white spray coat to achieve the armour, it is super simple!

I have more Bikes on the painting linne but I am also starting on my unit of Sisters of Silence Vigilators:

Since this is a defense of Terra themed list I will have both Sisters of Silence and a single Custodes lending support.

Loving the tribal markings! what are you building towards list-wise?

Right now I am just building basics/ must include units. I am planning on using the Ravenwing list when the new Dark Angel codex comes out soon. The idea is going to Bikers (ravenwing) backed up by terminators (deathwing) with Terran allies (Sisters of Silence and Custodes, using Grey Knights). Looking at probably 30+Bikers, 10 Terminators, and support.

I like the weathered white, and shields for decorations. Plus, good use of names (Temujin!).

While I am aware that the White Scars do not generally use Dreadnoughts, I thought that perhaps the strife of the Siege of Terra may have forced their hand in this mater. I am working on a little story, which I will post when I am done. In the mean time, here is Brother Temujin:

Now there's a nice looking dreadnought! I like the red markings, breaking up the expanse of white, that and the autocannons, one doesn't see enough of them about.

Wolf Lord Mjolnir - December 6, 2012 07:48 AM (GMT)
Wow, best White Scar dreadnought ever. Fact!

Ilmarinen - December 6, 2012 11:35 AM (GMT)

“Wait,” said the swarthy character, flicking his extensive hair from his almond-shaped eyes. “Say that again?”

The Emperor, gleaming in his refulgent plate inclined his magnificent head in affirmation, his beaming features belying that the unbounded joy at the discovery of yet another of his lost sons had not worn thin in the twelve hours since meeting this
Khan fellow on the lustrous world that hung serenely beyond the embarkation deck’s integrity fields. The Master of Mankind spoke in his enormous and gentle cadence: “This Legion is yours now, my son. Their cause, their destiny, their very being belongs to you wholly. You are their father, as I am yours.”

The Khan - Jaghatai was the name gifted him by the tribes that raised him – let out a low whistle as he cast his gaze upon the two thousand ivory armoured warriors arrayed before him. Apparently there were more. Many more.

“Well,” said the Khan at length. “[I'M ILLITERATE] the bed.”

Many hours went by as the Emperor himself walked beside his most recently reunited son and described to him the specific nature of each rank, each appointment, each item of wargear and each specialised squad. The Khan was lost in the profundity of these cosmic revelations to such an extent that he could do little but pick his nose and affect an air of disinterest and boredom, though the Astartes of the Fifth Legion were sure their Primarch was taking it all in, razor sharp intellect that he no-doubt possessed.

“And these,” said the golden Emperor when they had passed the majority of the parading warriors and their immaculate ancillaries, “are the legion’s Dreadnoughts.” A dozen Contemptor pattern sarcophagus-bound veterans stood in a row, feet planted, glowing lenses fixed dead ahead like the rest of the troops stood before them. The Khan was twirling a moustache.

“Huh?” he uttered after a moment once he’d noticed the Emperor’s expectant demeanour. “Oh, right. Like, robots and [I'M ILLITERATE], yeah?” The Emperor regarded his fifth son. With a graceful smile he replied. “No, my son, they are not robots, though we have them too.” The Great Illuminator then proceeded to explain to Khan the intricacies of the revivification of the almost-dead heroes and their subsequent interment. After this elucidation, the Khan appeared to be dry retching. The Emperor manifested an expression of concern on his not-quite-godly-but-hey-maybe-one-day-who-knows face.

“My son!” He said. “What is wrong?” The fifth son of the Emperor could only speak garbled words as he slowly backed away from the dreadnoughts.

“Ew, ew, ew!” Blurted the Khan in a palsied arrhythmia, still reversing. “Disgusting, disgusting! Their souls, man, their freaking souls! They should be riding the four winds and [I'M ILLITERATE]! Their SOULS, man! Ew!”

The Emperor raised a perfect eyebrow before responding.

“So, you don’t like dreadnoughts?” The Emperor looked at his son. The Khan was hyperventilating as his eyes darted around looking anywhere but the dreadnoughts. He was also doing something weird with his hands, like he was trying to put invisible gloves on and do up an invisible tie at his throat at the same time, all with the very tips of his fingers.

“I’ll take that as a no,” ventured His Immortal Majesty.

But in all seriousness, a very cool force, and that contemptor does look pretty damn neat, even though I harbour irreconcilable prejudices when it comes to White Scars and dreads! I love the look you’re going for dude :P Look forward to more.
