Title: HH Galaxy Map
Description: Finally revealed

ShroudFilm - August 22, 2012 11:14 AM (GMT)
So yes, now that you've all seen the HH teaser from Forge World...

About 6 months ago, Alan Bligh and I drew up a map for the galaxy at the time of the outbreak of the Horus Heresy.

The first fragment of this can be seen in the video:

Any surprises, there? Anyone particularly interested in those new clarifications?

Ullanor, for example, was right on the doorstep of the Segmentum Solar - you can see Chondax and the Kayvas Belt bordering a faint Ork skull glyph.

Nikaea was also very close to Terra, as was Chemos and Cthonia. See now why Horus was first to be found...? :D

Very interesting. A whole bunch of new places on there.

Can't wait to see the whole thing!

Goth?

Aaaaagh - why isn't it Games Day yet?!?!

I take it that that is only a small portion of the actual HH map?

That isn't as big as the Empire was during the heresy is it?

Also it might have been nice to see some of the smaller planets mentioned in the books identified, such as Murder and Interex Prime (unless of course they are on a bigger map).

I didn't realise just how close Cthonia was to Terra. :o Right on the door step.

Very interesting, thanks for posting it Shroud!

Must be some work tying that in to the wider picture of the books/Primarchs discovered so far!

Although, I note the absence of the planet Birmingham, home of the 11th Legion Primarch?

ShroudFilm - August 22, 2012 12:11 PM (GMT)
This is just what was in the video. We laid out the whole galaxy... ;)

This is cool, can't wait to see the whole thing.

We always knew Cthonia was within reach of even sub-light speed craft.

If the ork glyph represents Ullanor what does the Goblin-esque moon face represent I wonder...?

Shroud, I guess the vagaries of warp travel can explain the order of primarch discoveries as much as geographical distance from Terra?

Fulgrim spent a lot of time fighting with Horus hence the nearness of Chemos, but Prospero is close by too.

Medusa and Caliban are far far away, but I can't imagine the First Legion having to wait that many decades to be reunited with their primarch. I can't remember what Descent of Angels says. Plus Ferrus and Fulgrim seem to have had a long friendship.

Baal being so far away is interesting.

I always imagined Fenris to be on the edge of the galaxy, but we often think on a smaller scale than what we're seeing. It could be in the middle of nowhere, a wild, or dead system, but geographically slap band in the middle of the map!

Aye, and also - this is a 2-dimensional map of a 3-dimensional galaxy. That is something which many people seem to forget when looking at the 40k universe...

It could be further to Cthonia from Terra, than it is to the galactic core - it all depends how 'deep' in the map each world is. Two planets could appear to be on top of one another when viewed from above, but actually be HUNDREDS of light years apart in 3-D space.

This is where a digital book would shine, could have a page with a 3d map you can spin around like a new model on the GW site

Awesome sauce :)

You know Id totally buy a Games Day ticket just to get this book? If I had any money!

This is all just so cool to be finally seeing the layout of the galaxy at the time of the crusade and heresy can't wait to see the full map

Without some massive retcon, the FW/BL Heresy gang don't really have a say in where Caliban, Medusa, Baal, Fenris, etc. are. They have been on WH40K maps since at least the early 90's.

The nature of warp travel, as I understand it, should make relative true distance from Terra largely meaningless. In (fictional) theory, you could warp-jump to Baal faster than you could warp-jump to Prospero - at least, when that makes sense for the sake of the story! :P

And I may have just answered my own question, but I'm curious about one thing. I recall from The First Heretic that when the Word Bearers journeyed to what became known as the Eye of Terror (even naming the Scarus Sector in the process, and landing on Cadia), it was this nameles, unknown area in wilderness space on the edge of the known universe. However, huge Imperial armies had already been far beyond it and all the way around it centuries before, finding Medusa, Caliban, etc. I know about the "vagaries of warp travel" and the sheer size of the galaxy and all that , but I dunno, it just seems a little incongruous to me.

I am really starting to hate the lodges with all this I cannot say crap.
Shroud has the keys,I say we storm the gates of GW Terra and take over.
Shroud is the true heir to the kingdom.
Then we all can be the ones who cannot say

Ut oh I feel the malign influence of this book already, that Malus Codicum has nothing on this book.
