Title: Wolf Priests

King Fluff - June 11, 2012 08:47 PM (GMT)
Ok... quick question.

Do pre-heresy Wolf Priests wear grey or black armour?

ShroudFilm - June 11, 2012 08:53 PM (GMT)
I was about to jump in here until I realised that I was thinking of Rune Priests.

Plus I couldn't even cite a precedent because the thing I was thinking of isn't out yet.

I have been less than helpful. I apologise. Does the original IA article mention anything?

King Fluff - June 11, 2012 10:04 PM (GMT)
I'll check. As far as I can remember the article has a pic of a 40k wp in black but I guess the question is...... Did wolf priests appear the same time as chaplains in other legions and if so I guess they would be black also or were they with the legion from the outset - if that's the case then they would possibly be grey - however in 40k they have black armour so what prompted the change and when?

I'm pretty sure there's a wolf priest in grey in collected visions (however I believe it's a mis label and it should read rune priest (as it looks like he is wearing a psychic hood) - so no help there :-(

I would think Wolf Priests would be in standard grey until Nikea.
They were also the Apothecaries so I think they would of been there from the start.
And Fenris being a bit backward would make sense that the Medicine Man is also the Spirtual Guidance, very important guy in the village.

So I would think they were the same for the wolves.

Black seems like an Imperium thing that was part of the Nikea edict ,all the way at the bottom hidden in the fine print. :D

Ah yes - the Chaplains of the Word Bearers painted their armour black in response to the razing of Monarchia. When the Chaplain Edict was passed and their unofficial secondment to the other Legions became law, the black would have been extended to all the variants... Wolf Priests, Wardens etc.

As with everything - until the Codex Astartes and the Second Founding, it differed on a Legion-by-Legion basis, and sometimes even within a Legion.

I'd say, if your army is set any time after Horus became Warmaster, go with black.

So Shroud, who are the Wardens then? Have you just let something slip?

ShroudFilm - June 12, 2012 02:25 PM (GMT)
No - check out 'Bloodline' by James Swallow. It's the Games Day 2010 chapbook story, and contains flashbacks to the HH. ;)

Noserenda - June 12, 2012 04:38 PM (GMT)
Aha, cool to have a solid answer on Chaplains (Mine are Blue, uh I mean indigo :D )

Michaelangelos - June 15, 2012 10:01 AM (GMT)
cant get bloodline, what are wardens? haha cant find out what they are

ShroudFilm - June 15, 2012 10:35 AM (GMT)
It's heavily implied that they are exactly the same as Chaplains, only they've been around for ages. Can't imagine why the Blood Angels would need spiritual advisors... :D

No reason. No reason whatsoever. DO YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT WORLD EATER? DO YOU REALLY? AAAAARGGHHHHH.... ehm, yes brother warden, i am calm. Yes, i shall retire now and calm down further. What do you mean "i'm hiding an eviscerator behind my back"? No ok, i'll put it down. I was really not going to use it on my brother here for an imaginary slight. I'll go now....
