Title: Stormbird armament

Do we have any indication as to how these things were armed? From what I recall it was similar to that of the thunderhawk.

Does this help?

They have the capacity to carry racks of missiles beneath each wing (False Gods P91), and bear cannons slung beneath the wings (Horus Rising P140) and cockpit (False Gods P88). It also has rotary cannons in forward pintle mounts (False Gods P91). (Pintle mounted refers to a weapon being mounted on a vertical rod allowing to be rotated.)
A Stormbird can be modified to carry extra missiles and stowage compartments at the rear, as with Ferrus Manus's Stormbird (Fulgrim P147).

by "rotary cannons" we all know them to be vulcan mega bolters

Gagoc TheAncient - March 25, 2012 07:57 PM (GMT)
Actually I thought they were the PH version of Assault Cannons.

vulcan mega bolters may be too big. How about kheres assault cannongs? or something similar... does it have any really big weapon like the t-hawk?

the stormbird is 4 times larger then the thunderhawk, so vulcan mega bolters are most likely accurate

As anyone who has read the recent novels will know, rotary-pattern autocannons or 'rotor-cannons' are the precursors to Assault Cannons. They fire standard heavy calibre autocannon rounds, at a much higher rate.

They are most definitely not just 'like Vulcan mega-bolters'. Bolter ammunition is mass-reactive and explodes on impact.

The Stormbird has rotor-cannons.

The cannons under the wings and cockpit are probably a form of Autocannon.
But I do think you could swap at least a couple for Lascannons.

Either way they'll be at least Infantry sized, possibly similar size to that found in the turrets of Predators. But I'm not sure about larger cannons.

So something like a 6-barrel reaper autocannon?

Think 'Kheres' Pattern Assault Cannons....

ShroudFilm - March 27, 2012 09:06 AM (GMT)
Since an autocannon is basically a high-calibre machine gun like we have today, I'd say that an efficient gatling gun of any sort is probably what we're looking at...

BigWill - March 28, 2012 09:08 PM (GMT)
I'm just glad they put rotary into the fluff, the assault cannon is my favorite termie bit that I was never able to use

Gagoc TheAncient - March 31, 2012 08:01 PM (GMT)
I've just remembered that in Fallen Angels there is a reference to Stormbirds being armed with Melta-Rockets.
