Title: Question on alternate Heresy scenarios

Midgard - November 7, 2011 07:57 PM (GMT)
The question I have is, would this forum be an appropriate place to post a story taking place in a very alternate version of the Heresy/Great Crusade?

Some background first.

Currently, I am participating in a rather unique collaborative project on a different forum - a reimagining of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, starting with the basic premise that the twenty Primarchs landed on different worlds, and turned out very differently from the canon. Essentially, instead of the Legions we all know and love, the scenario creates twenty different Primarchs and Legions, and generates an alternate Heresy.

To go along with it, I have begun writing a story detailing one of the Legions' exploits during the alternate Great Crusade. Originally it was intended more as a way to get back into writing after a long-ish break (due to the birth of my youngest daughter), and to try recreating the atmosphere normally associated with WH40K and Horus Heresy stories, without worrying too much about it ever being publishing material.

In other words, it is essentially a fan-fic of a fan-fic, but I have found it fun to write, and it seems to be working in building up my writing speed back to my customary level. It is explicitly non-canon, and is done purely as a "for-fun" project, and not for commercial distribution or publishing. Furthermore, it is not intended to challenge GW's copyright, or to create a knock-off universe other than as a work of fan-fiction acknowledging GW's copyright and ownership of the trademark and all associated items.

So, with this in mind, would this forum be an appropriate place to post the story? If so, would anyone be interested to read it? A fair warning though - it is currently at a short novella length, and probably will end up being novel- or long novella-length once it is finished.

I would think with the nature of chaos and the warp
A good writer can make anything work including alterate reality

I think Shroud generally prefers alternate Heresies to go in the Vox-net: Off-Topic Chatter subforum. :)

Yeah, unfortunately that's the case - anything to do with 'The Dornian Heresy' needs to be posted in the off-topic section - we're not going to associate ourselves with the 'other' forum... :D

Just to clarify, this is not a Dornian Heresy scenario, but an original alternate universe one. Instead of reversing the roles of the original Primarchs or altering their allegiances, this scenario creates 20 fan-made Primarchs and Legions to replace the canon ones.

For more details, the project thread is here:

The scenario is actually much more developed than what's posted so far, but a lot of that took place via personal message, and is yet to be posted.

More specifically, my inquiry has to do with a story set in that scenario, dealing with the "alternate" XIV Legion - the Gargoyles (no, they are not alternate Death Guard, but simply share the Legion number in the alternate universe project).

Being that it is distinct from "The Dornian Heresy", would it still be something you would prefer in the off-topic forum (or not appropriate to TGC altogether), or will the Fan-fiction forum be a more appropriate place for it? Sorry if it is a redundant question, I just want to make sure I do not inadvertedly violate the rules of the forum.

It would still be Off-Topic as it has to do with non-canon.
Anything non canon 30k goes in Off Topic.
However please post there our Off Topic is very active most of us do more than just Heresy Armies, you'll still get great input there.

Thank you all for your input - the story (and the alternate Heresy it refers to) will be posted in the Off-Topic as they are further developed.
