Title: Children of the Emperor
Lord Commander Lucius - May 8, 2011 07:19 PM (GMT)
As everyone else seems to be starting their logs, i thought i'd do mine. Still got some elements to get.
I'll put up pics of what i have tomorrow when the light improves. Hopefully :D
Oh, and i almost forgot. What colour would you guys suggest for Emperor's Children at this scale? Just a Foundation or more.

Not sure that a Foundation will give you the nice rich Imperial purple the Legion wore. I'd use Liche Purple over a grey or white undercoat, and a wash of Baal Red. Pick out details in black and gold, and you're away :)

Thanks, hopefully will have a test painted bases done soon then.

I've found warlock purple mixed with necron abyss works really well if you want the dark purple from the artwork books.
Failing that Warlock purple is a nice base colour if you want the IA style colour.
Lord Commander Lucius - May 10, 2011 11:04 AM (GMT)
Right, i've not forgotten my picture promise, just got college to fit in as well.
But i have another question. How would anyone here make an Epic scale Fulgrim pre-daemon? I want it as near to the Phoenix Knight model as possible.
Alternatively if anyone fancies it, there's a commision in it for you. :D
Mortarion - May 10, 2011 11:43 AM (GMT)
Sculpting is pretty forgiving at this scale, I'm in the process of sculpting up Night Haunter for my Night Lords, so if your feeling brave....
Lord Commander Lucius - May 11, 2011 07:51 AM (GMT)
Right, ordered the last remaining models from GW and just two ebay actions to win and i'm done :D
Anyway, in lieu of pictures here is the list i am running.
III Legion Strike Force , 3000 POINTS
Codex Astartes (NetEA Compendium 1.1)
TERMINATOR DETACHMENT
TACTICAL DETACHMENT
6 Tacticals, Rhinos, Vindicator
TACTICAL DETACHMENT
6 Tacticals, Rhinos, Vindicator, Hunter, Captain
DEVASTATOR DETACHMENT
4 Devastators, Rhinos, Supreme Commander, Hunter
ASSAULT DETACHMENT
4 Assault Units, Chaplain
BIKE DETACHMENT
4 Bike Unit, Attack Bike
Annihilator(Sabre), 3 Destructor, Captain
LAND RAIDERS
4 Land Raiders, Librarian
LAND SPEEDERS
Think that was what was suggestd by Magos.
The Red Sorcerer - May 11, 2011 10:04 AM (GMT)
I'd make a few mods to the position of the characters myself.
Put the Supreme Commander in the cheaper Tactical detatchment - more units=greater survivability for your commander, which is very important. Supreme Commanders can be high priority targets for your opponent, so having more bodies to shield him is usually a good idea.
Put the Librarian in the Devastators - he's great for boosting their Firefight abilities, and your Land Raiders are a long-range shooting formation rather than an engagement formation.
I'd stick the Captain from the Predators into the Terminators as well, for similar reasons - SM armour formations are generally better at shooting from a distance, where the Engagement abilities of characters are wasted - in contrast, Terminators are one of the best Engagement formations in the game, with high Close Combat and Firefight values.
Otherwise, looks fine - 9 activations at 3000 points is a good benchmark to aim for, and you have a decent mix of shooting, engagement, and mobile units.
Lord Commander Lucius - May 11, 2011 09:11 PM (GMT)
Thanks Red, i'll take that on board.
Lord Commander Lucius - May 15, 2011 12:48 PM (GMT)
Picked up my mail order in store yesterday and then had a mega building session surrounded by all the young kids saying that they thought "my baby marines were cute" and similar comments, urgh.
Anyway, piccys!!! This is a big moment for me, first epic models painted, 1st picture in the thread and most importantly, first ever picture of my work on the forum :D
Edit: It worked!
Edit 2: Thaks to Shroud for the tutorial video.
Match formations to the list above if you want to. Sorry for the bad pictures.
Just under 3000 points of Emperor's Children, only missing 3 Predators and a Sabre, 2 Vindicators and 2 Hunters.
Tactical Formation wth Captain and a banner bearer (just 'cause). Missing Hunter and Vindicator
Terminator formation with Captain
Devastator formation with Librarian, missing Hunter. Might shift that to Supreme Commnader's formation, dunno yet.
Assault formation with Chaplain
Bike Formation and attack bike
Tactical formation with Supreme Commander, missing Vindicator.
Supreme Commander, not finished obviously but i think they look very good.
The Vindicator's and Predators are in the post so should be here by next weekend, quickest i'll ever have finished a list.
malika - May 15, 2011 01:06 PM (GMT)
Try to give the Supreme Commander a hammer and you got yourself a cool Lord Commander Eidolon!
Lord Commander Lucius - May 15, 2011 01:12 PM (GMT)
Eidolon, Lucius and Fabius will all make an appearence at some point along with Fulgrim as i've said. My friend has dared me to make the whole legion
malika - May 15, 2011 07:36 PM (GMT)
The whole Legion? Tens of thousands of marines? Good luck with that! I do love to see all the characters from Fulgrim in there! If you're up for it you should really try to add that extra bit of fluff in there, kind of like what Apologist did for his Ultramarines! :)
Lord Commander Lucius - May 17, 2011 11:47 AM (GMT)
I won't be able to do the entire legion, well not for a while at least but i can possibly do a chapter strength force. I've got enough Mk6's avalible to mix and match with the current figures. I'll have a look when i get home.
All i need to do now is work out how to do the named characters and Fulgrim.
ShroudFilm - May 17, 2011 12:16 PM (GMT)
The whole legion would be at least 20,000 BASES of minis. The cost of the bases alone (without minis in them!) would be £12,750.00 at RRP...
You can do a chapter (pre-Heresy company?) sized army using only 200 bases of minis. That's still a lot of models... certainly more than I own, and I'm a massive geek.
Apologist - May 17, 2011 01:29 PM (GMT)
That's some sweet painting on the Supreme Commander stand, and the army as a whole looks cool. Just a tip – don't get bogged down on individuals (beyond characters); the impact of Epic really comes when you've got a formation or two painted. It's a great feeling :)
Lord Commander Lucius - July 24, 2011 08:44 PM (GMT)
Well, i think we all know who will win the competition cough*Apologist*cough but it's better to win with competition than none.
Anyway, here is the latest pictures of my army, utterly unfinished but still will be worked on anyway afterwards. Basically, if it's fully painted it is my entry. Again, sorry for the bad pics.
Tactical formation with supreme comander, vindicator and hunter
First tactical squad
Supreme commander and second tactical squad
Third tactical squad
Close-up of supreme commander
Their legion symbols, quite proud of them though not the best shot to show them.
Battle company for the win.
Sabre tank hunter and 3 predator destructors
These are all close ups of my favourite model in the army, the Sabre
And finally, a full army shot. One day they will be all painted, hopefully soonish.
ShroudFilm - July 24, 2011 09:15 PM (GMT)
I will remind you that entries should be made to the contest thread, not just on your blog...

This isn't mine but i think i've found my next project for epic. I know there is already one but i'm not paying that much unless i have to.
Lord Commander Lucius - August 31, 2011 10:57 PM (GMT)
Um, quick question to whoever pays attention ;)
I recently got the epic rulebook and decided to re-write my list again using it. Upon doing so, i discover that the list that i wrote with NetNA was 50 points cheaper than the rulebook one, despite having the same units and options.
So just checking, are the points cost the same for both lists so i've mis-added something or is theri a difference?
Apologist - August 31, 2011 11:26 PM (GMT)
The NetEA amendments have reduced the cost of a few things (and increased some others; and changed others!) - a lot of the upgrades and some of the formations were regarded as overcosted.
It's worth noting which version you are using so that you can let your opponent know. The changes are fairly subtle, but it's always best to be transparent, I think. :)
On a completely unrelated note, I've just realised I've totally forgotten to post out that Reaver Titan you won! :o
I'm so sorry – I'll get it posted out first thing. My apologies! :(
Lord Commander Lucius - September 1, 2011 11:38 AM (GMT)
I accept your apologies, Apologist :P
I think i'll stick with the NetEA rules, probably better overall.
