im lovin the team america one except the face....looks to....well it would suit Fulgrim if it had long hair. i imagined him with a snarling face, screaming a battlecry whilst charging into the fray

Fortronus - February 27, 2008 07:46 AM (GMT)
I don't know i always seen the Primarch as pretty boy. i mean they're all tube baby why you goign to make something of lesser qualities other then Ferrus Manus. If i rember right he was ugly as sin hehe. As leader and adn the char leader's of there chapters i just figure'd they'd all have that strikeing good looks thing goign on. But yes that was a great model. wise the rest of the team would have followed thougth and they had all the primarch. Nice to have somethign to base a few idea's off of.

Fulgrim called Ferrus Manus the Gorgon... But then again, he has high standards...

Great, now I'll be reading the really epic moments throughout the series, and all I'll hear in my head is that horrible, squeaky, eunuch voice.... AAAH! Curse you! :D

Indeed, Curse me. Curse me good.

I don't know,Konrad Kurze kinda has that Glenn Danzig look to him!
At least that's how I accidently made him out to look like! ;)
And the Lion looks like a huge knight with a bolter!
And Jaghatai Khan looks like a cross between Genghis Khan and Atilla,
and Dorn looks like a huge Emporer's Champion without the Helm!
That's how I pictured them at least! ;)

Yeah, you know the tabards that the DAs wear - SARONGS!!

Fulgrim's Kinebrach - Gillette sensor excel

Don't think any of the primarchs had magic boots

Weiss - February 27, 2008 10:47 AM (GMT)
Maybe one of the lost ones?

ShroudFilm - February 27, 2008 12:29 PM (GMT)
I got the impression that the primarchs become their characters, emotionally speaking.

So the 'ugly' primarchs were the ones who were hateful or angry, or who suffered injuries but didn't deem it neccessary to get them healed properly - facial scars, broken noses, burns etc.

Pretty boy primarchs were the ones who tried to be diplomatic, fair, or detached. They placed a lot of importance in looking regal.

Or were born ugly, giant, red and one-eyed... :D

Vredesbyrd - February 27, 2008 02:57 PM (GMT)
I imagine Dorn as being patrician and noble - almost like Paul Kidby's Lord Vetinari but obviously proportioned like a Primarch....

I imagined him with more of a square jaw and roman god-like features personally. Kinda like the Captain Mysander picture (I know, he's an Ultrasmurf) from the artbooks. With less veins of course :D

This was pretty much what i was thinking hehe. ShroudFilm be better with words then i am.

But there many many looks out there to work with i think if you keep them basic with a regal air about them they'll come out looking nice. Dorn you could even just go with a gold armor and basic gear and i think you'd still get the point across with him. Go with one of the great true scale idea's that are flowing around here as if any i pick him much bigger then the rest of his legion and you'd be great.

Rogal Dorn - February 28, 2008 10:24 PM (GMT)
i planned on using some of my inquisitor bitz....i used to play that alot so i was gonna use an extra Tyrus mixed with Artemis

Weiss - February 29, 2008 09:42 AM (GMT)
Wouldn't Inquisitor models be a bit big?

Rogal Dorn - February 29, 2008 02:27 PM (GMT)
probobly right

Weiss - February 29, 2008 03:18 PM (GMT)
Your best bet is probably to use the "true scale" method (termi legs, etc...)

Upfront..apologies on thread revival..but why start a new topic with the same title in a four topic folder? No one has commented in here for about a year on any of these threads, but I didn't see a need to start a new thread to talk about the same topic.

One day I found this pic of Dorn..didn't like it..to over the top for a battlemaster who didnt want to be worshiped.

So I drafted my vision..

dispite my lack of skill I was able to commissioned a solid artist to do this.

About a year ago, I asked Hash (username) to sculpt up a table top warrior who was a no nonsense no frills battle master. Keeping it more like a warrior on the battle field instead of the poser style (I'm a primarch..strike a pose). After he posted a few WIP photos, I lost contact with him and thought Dorn was gone for good. Turns out that I found who was molding him and got Dorn back! Yes...

user posted image

I was very impressed with the molding, nice clean, and very little flash. Very clear details. Good scale.

I wish some of the sculpting was different, like a detached head and detached shoulders so I could reposition arms and head.

I also wanted a bigger hammer. But that was easily changed. Those of you who remember the Baron figure..I used his hammer. I picked up a real nice base for him and here are a few comparison pics.

And compared to another primarch scale mini.

Now..how about some comments on how to improve this model for a little closer to Pre Heresy..I thought about attaching the Dornian Evisorator Chainsword of Doom to the back or maybe a Big Bolter of Badness. Providing other options for arms, shields, etc.

BigWill - October 30, 2009 09:32 PM (GMT)
Looking real good.
I would like to see the Eagle Cuirass on his chest instead of the flaps but very nice
Both options you mentioned would be good the big Chainsword and Bolter.
You also mentioned Shield,if you do it need a fist with Roman Thunderbolts(Think Custodes) with maybe a Roman numeral legion number.
But the numeral might be too much legally speaking,I'd hope not though.

I wish someone would scuplt a bunch of bare heads like that though and cast em.
The after market IG head companies do well ,someone will do it some day.

DaemonlordAbraxes - October 31, 2009 01:46 AM (GMT)
Whered you find The Baron and That Horus Model?

Torg - October 31, 2009 07:54 AM (GMT)
And where did you get Dorny,PM me if you can. :)

TyraelVladinhurst - October 31, 2009 11:48 AM (GMT)
where can i get that Dorn? >.<

DaemonlordAbraxes - October 31, 2009 02:41 PM (GMT)
Ohh, i want one too

Magos Explorator - November 1, 2009 12:24 AM (GMT)
That's a nice sculpt; I think the stern expression on his face is particularly suitable for Dorn.
