Title: Pre-Heresy Terminator colour scheme?

Magos Explorator - February 20, 2008 05:42 PM (GMT)
I noticed that in one of the Horus Heresy artbooks there's a picture labelled Salamanders terminators, in what appears to be a metallic armour. I was wondering whether pre-Heresy Salamanders terminators are known to have worn armour of some colour other than the green Salamanders normally where, or not? Perhaps the colour in the picture is meant to be a trick of the light, are a special bodyguard for a particular character, or it is just wrongly labelled? Does anyone have any information?

If I'm thinking of the correct picture, I was always under the impression it was supposed to be yellowish glare from flames/a flamer in use.

VESPASIAN - February 21, 2008 06:58 AM (GMT)
I don't think that it is a 'flame effect' on the armour, because the flame would have to be amazingly selective; as it has turned the armour gold but left the eye lenses a clear green colour!

In addition it would have to be an extremely impressive flame to turn dark green armour into a metallic gold!

Furthermore the Terminator armour has Salamanders related iconography on it (a little flame).

I personally think that the armour is meant to be gold in colour, it may represent a member of a bodyguard or other specialist unit (like the Firedrakes for example).

Hopefully a future Horus Heresy book will provide details about this.

Hmm, I think they would look rather good in gold, just make sure there's plenty of lizard skin about...

Magos Explorator - February 21, 2008 03:23 PM (GMT)
Perhaps I'll give the gold a go... We'll see. I was just hoping there was more definite information, one way or another. :)

Sadly there don't seem to be any other sali termi pics in the books... I was quite disappointed with how little artwork was done for the three legions at the drop site massacre, considering the number of cruddy emperor's children pictures they were (just glancing through makes me sick of pink/purple).

Hopefully, as Vespasian said, we'll get a book on the salamanders themselves, or at least more info through conjecture.

Definitely not 'flame effect':

The problem is without any other evidence it could well be just another case of the 'purple ultramarine'

Or you could try their original paint job
the black and yellow that they had in the Rogue
Trader days,or in the first edition their paint job was similiar to
the todays DA,the dark green,(accually in the old paint set
the Dark angel green was actually named Salamander
greenIf that helps any? :) ;)

Whitehorn - February 13, 2009 12:33 PM (GMT)
How does trying a paint scheme shed any more light on what it should be?

Torg - February 13, 2009 12:47 PM (GMT)
Well,I don't know maybe the fact that it could be a very
interesting way to do them,I take it Magos is going to have a try at some Sallies?
So my guess is that the original paint job or some such was the original look
However if we are to look at the color under the flair my guess is that it is close to the DA green that was the way it seems.or you could try the striped color scheme
(yellow and black that was way back when)Whichever he wants to try though is probably cool! :) (Though the DA green look is almost blah!)

Well, my original post is about a year old! We had some thread-necro. ;)

I've had the parts sitting around in a box since then, but haven't had time to build them. Also have a Veterans squad. I think at that point I built a different Legion's squad, or something. If I recall, my original post was, as Whitehorn suggested, trying to see whether there was evidence as to what the scheme should be.

Torg - February 14, 2009 06:39 AM (GMT)
Heh..My apologies, but seriously it would be a cool way to paint.
And Whitehorn Necroed! He started it! :D :P

Nothing stopping you look at dates, or heck, reading the first post  Besides, it was at the top of the forum and it would be utterly pointless starting a new thread.

I'm going tof the picture I posed. Aiming at 5 or 10 terminators for AotE :D

Here is the original colors for the Salamanders, as they were portrayed in the Warhammer 40,000 Compendium:

Personally, I like the yellow with the black stripe markings, and the skull with the glowing red eyes is a nice touch!

ShroudFilm - August 16, 2010 11:14 PM (GMT)
That's actually a pretty spanky colour scheme - I could see Sallie veterans being done like that, no problem!

Iron Corsair - August 17, 2010 01:22 PM (GMT)
Or perhaps Terran-born Salamanders!
