Title: MAY 2010 - Fulgrim and the Emperor's Children
Description: Dargor's army featured on the GW website
ShroudFilm - May 5, 2010 05:25 PM (GMT)
It's high time we got another entry in the Display Case, and with all the attention Demetris 'Dargor' Tampakoudis has been receiving on the GW website lately, it seems obvious who our next candidate should be - his spectacular Emperor's Children Army
led by the mighty Fulgrim!
Something which sets this army apart is just how great and unified all the models look when posing together - from the lowliest scout to the upper echelons of command. The style is crisp and clean, and every bit as impressive when seen up close in person.
From the beginning, this was always intended to be an army meant for gaming, and the choices of units reflect that while still keeping the unique pre-Heresy flavour. From his native Greece, Dargor has travelled across Europe to compete in tournaments at Warhammer World, and Fulgrim's legion has served him well.
He had the following to say about this army, and about being nominated for the Display Case:
----------The Great Crusade. The Horus Heresy. Two periods that defined the state of Warhammer 40,000 more than any other. Times of legend, when primarchs walked amongst men and their legions shaped the face of the galaxy.
How can you not just love these periods? I know I do, and with a passion that borders on the obsessive! I loved the Index Astartes articles in White Dwarf and I kept my copy of 'Collected Visions' under my pillow much like Alexander the Great kept a copy of 'The Iliad' under his. When 'Horus Rising' came out I was so happy, I was yelling "YES! AT LAST, AT F****** LAST!!!" at an annoyingly loud volume. Then the rest of the books followed and I kept telling myself that I should make a pre-Heresy army at some point.
When i read about the heroic actions of Saul Tarvitz in 'Galaxy in Flames', I finally decided what legion I would make! And when I finished reading the last page of the masterpiece that is 'Fulgrim', I gave in. My good friend Sotirios (of Sons of Horus fame!) always bugged me about starting a pre-Heresy army and I decided that it was finally the time to do so.
I started experimenting with colour schemes and placed an order of MK4 power armour from Forge World that would put the Mechanicum of Mars to shame. The army officially started sometime in May of 2008, with the main goal being to take it to the Throne of Skulls tournament a year later. Drawing inspiration from a great many fantastic project logs on The Great Crusade, the HH novels and 'Collected Visions', the first 1500pts of the army were completed a day before the tournament.
It went on to claim the 3rd place overall, a Best Army nomination and a feature in GW's blog. In the following GT finals the Emperor's Children managed to walk away with ANOTHER Best Army nomination award. The final and biggest honour came when during TGC's event "Path of the Traitor", Graham McNeill himself saw the army up close and liked it very much, making me a very happy man indeed.
I can't thank the members of the The Great Crusade community enough for the motivation, inspiration and support they offered me during the building of the army - a BIG THANK YOU to you all guys! Also, very special thanks to my girlfriend Dora for supporting me and letting me travel off to the UK to play toy soldiers!
I will continue to add to army in the future, and the plan is to take the Emperor's Children to company strength, who along with my Imperial Army and Warhound Titan will form a nice little Expeditionary Force.
Children of the Emperor, Death to his foes!
Once again we see people working on whole armies and playing in the PH gaming scene, which is of course great news as it gets other players interested and fired up about the amazing modelling opportunities on offer. Let's hope we see some of the newcomers nominated with their own projects into the Display Case really soon...! :D
As always, feel free to nominate any pre-Heresy project or miniatures you see on the forum, and we shall bring you more new entries as often as we can.

Some great stuff - I think this is the first Display Case where a GW celebrity has gotten involved?
Can't wait to see where you take these guys in future, and what your next project turns out like.

You better be really ready, he doesn't slip up much or make mistakes that often, so you wont have many chances to strike :D
