Title: Genetic Augmentation
Iron Corsair - April 3, 2010 07:43 PM (GMT)
I had just finished reading False Gods yesterday for the first time, and after reading about the Brotherhood, (I chuckled after what Angron did. :P) I got to thinking; since Power Armor has been found on Non-Imperial Human's worlds, does that mean that there is genetic enhancement/alteration/augmentation that could cause someone to be equivalent to a Space Marine (IE, prodigious strength and endurance etc.), or was that something found only on Terra/in the Imperium?
Thanks in advance.

Well, in 40k Inquisitors, Sisters of Battle and certain members of the Mechanicus wear power armour without genetic augmentation. So I'd say yes to the armour, although the person inside it may not have the power of the Astartes.

That's true, I had rather forgotten about them. Thanks Magos! Another one would probably be the Skitarii, as in Mechanicum (I can't find the quote) that the Skitarii are Gene-Bulked, which I assume to mean augmented.

only SOME of the skitarii are gene bulked, plus, MAgos, some Inquisitors actually do get different forms of augmentation

also the space marines wear a Skin like substance under their armour so they can interface with it. that dosen't sound right but you know what i mean :P

Right, but as a general rule they don't get a dozen or so extra organs implanted in them around puberty. ;)

@Daemon Lord: That's true I suppose, especially all the Tech-Guard, who are actually different from the Skitarii and all that stuff. You are right about some Inquisitors, though. I forget where, but I do remember now that there were some Inquisitors in the background somewhere who had been augmented like that.
@Lucius: I had rather forgotten about that actually! Now that you mention it, I do remember in False Gods Loken removing his under "skin" while talking to some Remembrancer or other person.
@Magos: To be precise, Twenty implanted Organs. ;) But you are right, other then Space Marines, no one seems to get their level of augmentation before puberty.
Thanks for all the replies, guys!

Its called the 'Black Carapace'. It means Marine armour is far more responsive and 'natural' to use for its occupant than standard power armour of the sort used by unaugmented humans, and is unique to the marines.
