Title: THe New Blood Angels

The Sigillite - March 8, 2010 02:23 AM (GMT)
So time for some questions. With the new BA book coming out I must ask which PH legions would benefit the most from the list?

Heres a summary from those who have read the book,
http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=248074

Heres what I think

Blood Angels: Um, yeah its rather obvious why

Thousand Sons: With the ability to take up to 5 psykers in a list (2 librarians and 3 Librarian Dread). Also some of the other choices are interesting enough to say tthey are due to psykers or sorcery. Just stay away from Death Company and some others. As for blood rage it can be explained away by saying they have some srt of warp anger... Or in a friendly game just ignore it.

World Eaters: Most of the list works for them so long as you stay away from librarians. Seth is a major good character for this army.

So thoughts?

I'm not liking the idea of using these as Thousand Sons, the only reason for doing so really is the librarian dreadnought and i dont think this even fits in with the Thousand Sons, being armed the way it is with the blood claws or whatever they're called.

There are many more reasons agaisnt using this codex for the Thousand Sons than there are for such as the Blood Rage and units such as the sanguinor guard. Granted you could simply say that you wouldn't use them but then why take this codex? You're missing out on plenty of stuff from the Space Marine codex such as the devastators. I personnaly feel the legion is much better represented by the Space Marine codex and if people are desperate for the Librarian dread then use it in Apocalypse.

I would have said Raven Guard and Night Lords for the super assault squad rules going on.

Scouting Predators, fast vehicles, drop ships too...

I would go with the Thousand Sons. Barring the Death Company it`s all very viable.

Others would be Night Lords and World Eaters.

Imperial Fists Soul Drinkers Assault Company. :D :D

I'd go with Thousand Sons with BA codex. Sanguinary guard is not a great unit(FACT). Only problem is with Sanguinary Priests, but I'd make them as emm Sorceror Apprentices? You don't have to use Death co, you don't have to use RASs as main troop choice, you have sternguard, you have cheaper devastators. Why not? Oh and red thirst. I played 4 games last week. Red thirst didn't score on any of my units in any of my games so don't worry.

Aye unless Astorath is taken the Thirst only kicks in on a D6 roll of a 1, and if it does it gives you Fearless and Furious Charge.

I'm sorry Mr. D6, you don't want my Devastators to run away if shot at, and so lose a turn of shooting? Not only that but you want them to kick arse if they have to go into combat? Go on then, you've twisted my arm.

Ohh but red thirst just gives them furious charge and fearless, so why would you give up shooting for charging just because of having FC? Same with special characters, you don't have to take them, especially when they ruin your 1k sons theme.

When it comes to charging or being charged I think charging is the better option, you get more attacks that way and more attacks mean more dice to throw at your enemy.

As for the characters thing I wasn't advocationg taking Astorath, I was just pointing out that Red Thirst really occurs, but when he leads the army it increases the chances of it occurring.

night hunters (Night Lords)would work well. alott of jump guys and stuff that make me cry at night in fear :(

Night Lords, Blood Angels, World Eaters.

Raven Guard are only truly Raven Guard with Shrike and Land Speeder Storms. Faster than the Blood Angels, half the army can charge in and start killing on the first turn, with the rest close behind.

I did an article ages ago on my blog about using the BA codex for WE. The old codex was good, and this one looks even better (allowing you to represent the WE at various stages from Terra as the War Hounds all the way to the Heresy). Having the option for a practically 'all berserker' army (death company) or even little things like having the options for more Land Raiders make it a great option for a codex to use.

As soon as I can get a copy of the new codex out to me I'll write a new article on it!

One thing that sticks out to me is that Land Raiders of all types are available as dedicated transports to any squad that would ordinarily be able to take a Rhino!

You can really put together a small, vicious elite force with that Codex. I am wondering about running Death Company as Berzerkers/Gladiatiors, and Sanguinary Priests as Chirugeons (who did all the psycho-surgery).

That sounds perfect to me!

I too love the idea of having lots more Land Raiders around during the Crusade, to the point where they can be used even as transports for things like tactical squads. I'm not saying they would have been used like that in all situations, but you can imagine their deployment in high-risk battles where they needed more armour than that provided by a Rhino.
