Title: An Adept in need of help
Iron Corsair - March 3, 2010 02:38 PM (GMT)
While looking through a thread on the Adeptus Mechanicus forums about using the Imperial Guard codex to represent the Adeptus Mechanicus, I had a sudden flash of genius (In my opinion).
I thus came up with the following:
Infantry Squads=Robot (Not the massive ones in maniples, more like Pacific's Walter the Wobot
Command Squads=Skitarii Advisers and Tech Priests
Now, the problem is that I don't know what minis to use to represent the Robot Platoons. I'm thinking mixing Cadians with Necrons, or green stuffing some sort of mechanical looking head for the Cadians. What would you do if you were in my position? Currently I'm leaning toward green-stuffing my own, but any or all options will be considered. I'd also prefer not to buy parts from on-line distributors, but I would still consider them as a possibility.
Thank you in advance.

Infantry are your most common unit, I wouldn't match them up with Robots.
Veterans are a good call for Skitarii Hypaspists, but you could just field an army of them as they're troops.
Depending on how you want to arm your robots, penal colony are an option for combat orientated, otherwise you could look at Storm Troopers, Rough Riders...

The Witch Hunters
Codex is a popular option as well.
Infantry size robots isn't really a Mechanicum thing - bigger and more heavily armed all the way. Given the difficulties manufacturing and controlling them there's no point making versions to replicate basic humans, which the Imperium has in abundance... if your going to make them you want them big and tough so they offer something useful! Sentinels could well be a good option for proxying robots... medium walkers with heavy weapons fits much better for the robots used by the Mechanicus.
I'm not sure if Stormtroopers can be chosen as troops, but they work well as Skitarii - better armour and weapons compared to normal IG infantry. Rough Riders could be used as 'combat' praetorians (or Ogryns, thogh the Ripper Gun seems a little low-tech for the mechanicus!), and heavy weapon squads can be proxied with 'shooty' praetorians or heavy weapon servitors. Not sure if you can still include Inquisitors, but they certainly help you include a funky AM retinue if you can.

Thanks for the help guys!
@Whitehorn: Actually, the Penal Colony idea sounds good; it reminds me of Deliverance, the Raven Guard's base of operations. Based on what you said, I'm thinking I'll run a Mechanized Vet list, with Rough Riders and Penal squads. Thanks for the help!
@Red: I remember skimming through that thread. Thanks! Hmmm, I suppose you're right about the robots. Very well, Sentinel counts as, here I come! Nope, Stormtroopers can't be taken as troops anymore. Veterans with grenadier doctrine are pretty much Guardsmen with added Ballistic Skill, and WS to 4 instead of three; plus if you have the grenadier doctrine you get carapace armor. Only problem, Carapace armor is VERY expensive, in comparison to the rest of the IG troops and stuff. Yeah, I figured I'd use Rough Riders as close combat Praetorians and Heavy Weapon squads manned by Servitors. Aye, you can still add Inquisitors, you just have to follow the rules in their books for allies.
Thanks for the help guys!

Veterans are ideal for Hypaspists as they have BS4 and a choice of upgrades, one being 4+ armour saves.
Colonel Strachen is a great option too. He's half machine already and grants Counter Attack, Furious charge to all within 12. His unit is fearless. Praise the Omnissiah!

You could use basic Cadian bodies with Necron face masks and other robotic additions. Things to make them look distinctly Ad Mech, but also like grunt infantry

Interesting idea, Kharn! I will look into it for sure.
