Title: The Heroic Loken!

Titus Pullo - February 9, 2008 05:13 PM (GMT)
Here's Loken done up for action on Istvaan. Already in the Sons of Horus colours, he's scratched out the Eye and redone the wolf to identify himself as Loyalist. Just a nice character to have as I may assemble a Loyalist Istvaan army of a mixed group of EC SOH and DG's and try to give them a beaten up look. Anyhow see what you think.

He looks cool man, though personally, I don't like the topknot thing... That's a nice green colour though.

Cheers, it took a lot of mixing! It was a bit of a race against time before it all dried up!

Nice paint job there. Give's me a bit of a Space wolf feel but that could be the red hair topknot. Keep them comeing. Big fan of the green armor.

I modelled this one too - I was going for a mini-Abaddon topknot, to tie in with the legion.

Fortronus: it's blond, surely... not red? He is described as fair-haired in the books, as opposed to the "sons" like Aximand who were dark haired and skinned like Horus.

Yeah I tried to do a strawberry blonde with yellow hair and an orange ink wash. Does look a bit on the ginge side though

Haha see i knew it had some red in there i like it actully tho it's a nice look . Looking at it again it could be the Chops on the side to. i need to catch up on my reading tho been doing alot of painting of late need to update myself with little more of the PH history.

Very nice...the only thing I dont like is the Space Wolf mutton chops. And Im not to fond of the hair color, though I do know it is supposed to be fair. I always imagined Loken with silvery blond hair.

Weiss - February 18, 2008 10:28 AM (GMT)
old man look? meh. What's wrong with chops?

ShroudFilm - February 18, 2008 11:23 AM (GMT)
I was reknowned locally for my mutton chops, from the age of about 16-20... it was my defining characteristic amongst a legion of clean-shaven or goatee-ed rock fans and gamers! :D

It's a great mini and paint job but like others have said i have always imagined Loken without the topknot and as Manneus Drath said with silvery blond hair

Weiss - February 18, 2008 12:49 PM (GMT)
Where do you get silvery blond hair? (Other than in an unfortunate smelting accident?)

Kaleb 'Angelus' Dante - February 18, 2008 01:26 PM (GMT)
It's like a very fair blond or white blond

I like everything about this model except the sword. Loken used a chainsword.

Never anything else written about to date. I think if he had a better or more powerfu weapon, we would have seen it. To me the fact that he is described over and over with a chain sword and bolter is for a reason. As far as i have seen he is the only captain that dose not have any "special" weapon or equipment of any kind. No master-crafted plasma pistol. No power fist, or relic blade. No Jump pack or cool bike. No Artificer or Terminator armour. He had the most success as a captain of the XVI Legion other then Abaddon and did it with entry level equipment. That means his success was all him and not due to having a leg up. The other captains had power blades, terminator armour, or something. He was known to be the best in the legion with a blade but did not have a power sword. When he went up against Abaddon the author out did himself with the description of his chainsword cutting through Aba's Termi suit. If someone painted up a figure of say Garro, and he did not have Libertas but choose to have him with a Thunder-hammer, would you say... "AND NEVER ANYTHING ELSE!" The weapons theses characters use are a part of them. If Dan Abnett had wanted Loken to have a power sword, he would have had one. The description of his fights would not need to be too different For me his chainsword is just as much a part of him as is his fair hair of lack of blood lust.

It might also have something to do with characters in novels being more realistically effective without having to use "tabletop" equipment.Dont expect to read about a Legion Captain for example carrying a "relic blade".As far as we know, his chainsword might have been a "relic blade" in itself.

On another matter,a Legion Captain that is also a respected member of the Warmaster's Mournival wouldn't have much trouble getting in the armoury and picking up anything he liked...

Cheers! :)

I agree. My point is that he did not do this, why? He went down Istvaan III with his normal gear.

Sorry, I often forget that not everyone has read the preview material that I have.
