Iacton - February 7, 2008 07:41 PM (GMT)
Seen it now!

I can't unsee it either! I was so close to finishing mine too, don't think I'll bother now. <_<

Brother-Captain Basilus - February 7, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
Oh, sorry for that man

:P

Torg - February 8, 2008 09:28 AM (GMT)
I like it! He's one of the Primarch's, I still gotta get parts for and make him,
or buy him, or trade for him, either way! :) :o I wonder what parts could someone look for to make him?

Weiss - February 8, 2008 10:25 AM (GMT)
That is damn good....

Torg - February 9, 2008 09:09 AM (GMT)
No kidding! :o Hey Iacton why don't you want to finish your Magnus?
Is it a Ronin or a Scibor? He's one of the Primarchs I'm missing in my
collection! ;) I wonder...Is the Inquisitor Tyrus model from Inquisitor,
a good base model for Magnus the red? :)

I have the Ronin Magnus and I have been painting him on and off since last May!
I keep making excuses not to finish him, or getting distracted with other little projects.
I think it is because I want to make the best job that I can of him, so I practice techniques on others and IF I am happy with it, I then apply it to him. He is bloody HUGE and so takes forever just to do 1 coat!
I've done the body and such but I ordered a great big 100mm base for him cos I hate the original so now I have got to add at least 1 other figure/victim to the project so as not to lose him on it.
I also still need to finish his hair - the colour is a right pain, horns on his armour and any freehands.
I will finish him one day.....one day <_<

ShroudFilm - February 9, 2008 01:59 PM (GMT)
I never finished my Ronin one either... it's a very odd kit. Maybe one day.

In this mini, I see Tyrus pads, an old Chaos Marine axe, a newer style chainsword and a Lizardmen blade... to name but a few.

Torg - February 10, 2008 08:45 AM (GMT)
I personally like to paint any,It keeps me busy at night and out of my wifes
hair! :D If I ever find a cool base model for Magnus, it will inspire me to do him!
But as such I haven't yet even saw one that said Magnus to me other than the Ronin one!Tyrus shoulderpads,an old chaos spacemarine axe,(Which one?),and a
Lizard man blade,Hmm?I wonder what the person used for the head and the body?

Odd, yeah.
1st of all I thought it was out of scale where it is so big, then the parts really didn't go together very well.
I nearly wore my files out trying to get the cape to fit on his back. There's about 3 whole paperclips inside him to pin him together!
It's like a car crash!!!
Still if it was easy, would we bother trying?

Torg - February 11, 2008 09:56 AM (GMT)
Heck No we would have all given up by now and started something else! :D

Sons of Horus - May 19, 2008 02:57 PM (GMT)
hey thats an awesome model. i have a scratch built magnus mini sitting on my shelf unpainted.

Brother-Captain Basilus - May 19, 2008 03:34 PM (GMT)
Hmm...that's nearly 4 months, no ? Sent him to prison with all the other threadomancers

Seriously, show off your model in the PC&A section, please ;)

Vredesbyrd - May 19, 2008 06:55 PM (GMT)
Threadomancy of this degree deserves a poke in the with sharp stick! But as your new, I'll let you off with it, just please don't post in a thread that ended over 2 months ago unless you have something solid to add to it. Vredesbyrd.

Lord Blood the Hungry - September 22, 2009 08:41 PM (GMT)

He seems better proportioned than this one Lucius saw. (No Playskool legs!)

Keep up the good work!

that one is pretty damn good and has inspired me somewhat. i had just started my sculpt when i saw the green of this on display in one of the London stores.

its only the face that's too big. but i have the same trouble, it always starts in proportion with a carefully built frame then as i build up from the legs to the head it gets bigger and bigger. i started this one with ridiculously over sized grieves and as I'm nearing the top they look about the right size.

plan to post an update soon. just have hands hair and weapon to do, then its finished.

as promised here are the latest WIP photos

still needs hands, hair and mahusive shoulder guards, but you get the idea.

i'm starting to think the blade is too small, will probably enlarge it then file to shape.

thoughts?

quick edit: anyone got any ideas for the base?

Gagoc TheAncient - October 12, 2009 01:27 AM (GMT)
I like your sculpt Lord Blood.
But I have to ask... Why have you given him Terminator-style greaves?

The artwork I've seen for him has him with either the sculpted, form-fitting Greco-Roman style of Greave or something more akin to a Mk6 greve but with an ornate front.

I think it's those rims on the greaves that's doing it for me. If they didn't stand so proud, or were removed completely, that would vastly improve the model for me.

Still a nice sculpt though!

Lord Blood the Hungry - October 12, 2009 07:57 PM (GMT)
it is taken from the picture on p 52 "Horus Heresy Collected Visions" think the illustration is by Michael Phillipi. its also on the Magnus Coven card in one of the battle games.
the illustration finishes just below the scarabs with the trim on the grieves extending outwards .

the grieves did end up a little larger than i intended but that is pretty typical of a lot of my sculpts. I figured its ok cos he's a primarch and everything should stand proud on a primarch.
been toying with the idea of enlarging the boots to fit but there is a good chance they could end up looking like clown shoes if i don't get it just right.
i may have ago when i do the base.

Torg - October 14, 2009 10:12 AM (GMT)
Wow that is alot of Green stuff...
I had trouble putting my Scarab lord together and had to add a lil green stuff
to keep him together,I got an idea for a body for Magnus the Inquis scale model
Tyrus, he might be cool...just gotta find the right head. :)

He's come together well, but I think that your basic anatomy is a bit off.
I know that the GW proportions can be rather skewed, but I'm guessing from the pics that is arms are longer than his legs.
If it were my piece - and not too difficult to break down - I would chop the shins off and elongate the thigh bones, then maybe the shins also? Would appear to be easier than redoing the musculature of the arms that you've worked on.

Are you adding a big 80s rock hair do to him?

Lord Blood the Hungry - October 16, 2009 04:17 PM (GMT)
yeah he's going to have mahusive hair.

if i lengthen his shins he'll be way too tall. hes already just over double the height of a space marine, i do not want him to be triple their size. 21' tall is too big even for a giant primarch.

the arms have been bugging me need to cut them off and start again.
trying to decide whether to chop them at the shoulders or just above the elbows.

the haft of the weapon is too thick as well

DaemonlordAbraxes - October 16, 2009 07:13 PM (GMT)
Not really in my opinion, seeing as hes by far the largest primarch i have ever seen

Maratheus - October 27, 2009 03:03 PM (GMT)
Wow, I need to check this forum more frequently. :P
This is looking rather promising Lord Blood the Hungry.
Maybe the hands could be chopped at the bracelet thing and the armoured glove, so you lose minimal details and connecting them will be easy. I suggest checking some basic anatomy for the correct length of the arms. I also thing some of the armour parts are a bit round, give them a bit of sanding and Bob's your uncle. :)

Good luck with the project, it looks awesome.

better proportioned?

in the fluff hes the biggest primarch by far, standing over 15' tall. over twice the height of a space marine.
wanted to exaggerate that by making him as over muscled as he is in the art work (horus heresy collected visions p 52 or there abouts)

thinking of ditching the armbands and bracelets. does he really need them?

Maratheus - October 28, 2009 04:16 PM (GMT)
Very nice!
I think the armbands and gloves were a nice touch of detail, but it's up to you, looks good either way. :)
Are you going to work on the feet any more? I think he would look more balanced if they were a bit larger, right now everything is a bit top heavy.

Lord Blood the Hungry - October 29, 2009 04:56 PM (GMT)
will be attending to small details once the rest is finished
