Here's Br. Tiriel & Br. Gabriel
The armour was (somewhat controversially) painted in orkhide shade over black undercoat, then highlighted with a mix of snot green and DA green, then washed back down with a mix of DA green, codex grey and mostly black to leave just a little bit peeking through and then finally edge highlighted with a mix of snot green and codex grey. The final effect is a very nearly black colour with just a hint that there is green in it.
The robes were base coated in Khemri brown ( a particularly good colour IMO) and then highlighted with thin successive coats of Graveyard earth and then ratio mixed coats of GY earth and Rotting Flesh, up to pure Rotting flesh. In reality there were 3 intermediate layers of 75% Graveyard Earth / 25% Rotting Flesh, 50/50 of each and then 25% GY Earth / 75% Rotting Flesh.
The icons were roughly painted on at basecoat stage and then tidied up before i started any highlights. This was done with a 50/50 mix of mechrite red and scab red that is amazing for giving a really flat finished strong dark red!
The icons were then worked with highlights of scab red, red gore and blood red with the odd top highlight of 50/50 blood red and blazing orange.
All weapons and metal was NMM and the sword then had a edge highlight of scorpion green mixed with fortress grey.
The sword is from the cypher model and then attached to the hilt of a chainsword hand.
The faces were done with GS

I think that's the first valid entry (as in it includes a description of how the colour scheme was painted). Nice one Iacton!

Here's a combat squad of my Dark Angels:
I didn't enjoy painting these so much as other models in my force, mainly as I found both the black and off-white areas tricky to get done. This is a shame as I have another 5 to build and paint! But at least, with these 5 done, I now have 500 points of painted pre-Heresy marines.
The sergeant's got a Mark V prototype helmet on, and shoulder pads inspired by the Descent of Angels cover
. I've gone for black and red details for the armour, and added gold on the shoulder pads of the other squad members trims to tie them in with their sergeant and make them a little more ornate. And the plasma-gunner has a bionic head as, well, accidents happen when you use a plasma gun!
The armour is Chaos Black with highlights formed by mixing in Adeptus Battlegrey.
The robes were basecoated Khemri Brown, then Bleached Bone was used over most of this, followed by highlights mixing in some Skull White. Watered down browns and blacks were used to make the bottom of the robes dirty.
Brown, red and metal areas were basecoated and highlighted once (Scorched Brown with Dark Flesh, Mechrite Red with Blood Red, Boltgun Metal with Mithril Silver, and Shining Gold with Mithril Silver) before being ink washed (2:1 black:chestnut ink for all aside from red and gold, which were pure chestnut).

Has anyone thought of pencil lining instead of paints?
here is the link http://thepaintingcorps.blogspot.com/searc...cil+hard+lining

You answered your own question.
Miss Dee - September 29, 2009 11:06 AM (GMT)
I said has anyone thought of using this instead of paint. Men *shakes head*
Whitehorn - September 29, 2009 02:28 PM (GMT)
Just playing :)
The pencil stuff is a very nice trick - I prefer using graphite on vehicles for damage though. Highlights really benefit from a nice blending of shade and colour than just a plain white line.
Shadow war eh? RIP Kosh :D

I have a command squad underway with an aux grenade launcher on his power fist also pinched from some chaos marines.
Just dont tell NCIS.
