Title: my Horus and his sons

horusundivided - January 6, 2009 07:19 PM (GMT)
hi. this is my pre/early heresy horus and some of the sons of horus. the painting scheme is based on the index astartes scheme, horus himself is based on his evil vision-books look, i went from there and took away the really evil elements. also, i always envisioned horus as depicted in the jes goodwin diorama, ie with a pair of lightningclaws. perhaps not entirely fluff-correct, but A) i wanted to make my horus the way i like him best and B) come on! he's the warmaster! i bet he has an entire vault full of wargear and can choose pretty much anything he likes. in all my sons of horus i set myself the basic rule no really emperial emblems and no really chaos ones either. skulls and arrows are used by both sides, so no going wrong there. though i'm not a player i try to make an army which is as valid as possible under both codex SM as codex CSM, so if i ever start playing (i'm now introducing my seven year old son to the hobby so that day may not be far off) i can choose to use them either as loyalists or traitors. also, i wanted the entire army in the same colurscheme, so abbadon is also wearing greengrey armour, despite the fact i know the justaerin wore black.

enough talking, here are the miniatures (minus the backpacks, i hate painting those, they will follow soon, i know lazy :) );

so the titanic blood angel is a dreadnought?

looks good
i would have made horus a wee bit bigger
but still i like 'em

Kriegersen - January 6, 2009 11:46 PM (GMT)
Ahhh! "horus there's a giant red marine after us. RUN!!!"
joking aside, these look great dude ;) Good way to introduce yourelf on here too.
I like the grey, blue tone you've gone for ;) Is that astronomican grey by any chance  ?

horus looks beasty by the way, I realy like him :D
keep up the good work! ;)

ShroudFilm - January 7, 2009 12:54 AM (GMT)
Nice work - I like the colour you've used, and the yellow eyes are very sinister!

Horus looks good in his Terminator armour, but I would have gone for cataphractii shoulders on Abaddon, to really stress the pre-Heresy nature of it all...

Kharn - January 7, 2009 03:00 AM (GMT)
Ultramarines: "Hey, can we come into the picture now?"

Horus: "No, out out out out!"

But these guys look REALLY good, I love the color scheme, really crisp and uniform. Also, Horus looks VERY good, I really like him!

Whitehorn - January 7, 2009 12:33 PM (GMT)
May I suggest you try something different with the bases? It's too close to the model's tone, two cold compositions. Maybe try a 'warm' base to throw in contrast.

Iron Corsair - January 9, 2009 01:55 AM (GMT)
Nice Sons of Horus, horusundivided! I like the color scheme. :ph43r:I might just steal it.:ph43r:

horusundivided - January 9, 2009 08:18 AM (GMT)
thanks for the nice comments guys!

@shroudfilm: i agree with you on the shoulderpads and having seen the great tutorial on making them, abbadon will get "heresyfied" some time soon.

@whitehorn; thanks for the tip, but i want to be able to place my miniatures in a cities of death like setting, and IMO grey rubble fits that theme best...

@iron corsair: feel free! I'd be honoured if my humble work inspires other people: for the main colour i use a mix of fortress grey and dark angel green, the trims are a mix of boltgun metal and chaos black and for the power weapons (horus'lightningclaws and my almost finished Loken's powersword) i used a mix of skullwhite, mithrill silver and either regal or enchanted blue, however i found that ice blue with mithril silver gives the same effect.

at the moment i'm finishing my first tac squad (only need to tidy the last two up), a terminator, captain Loken and erebus (in pre-heresy grey scheme). i've further assembled half my second tac squad with some de-bunnified bezerker heads, half an assault squad (using berzerkerbodies minus khorne-heraldry), two rino's and three Dark Angel veterans with CSM shoulderpads as lodgemembers, an escort to erebus. i'll update when i finish something.

horusundivided - June 11, 2009 07:52 PM (GMT)
hi. it's time for an update, since my sons have a new daddy. after finisishing the grandfather of the sons of Horus (the great and holy emperor of mankind) and their winged uncle i found my Horus standing a bit simple in comparison. Thanks to a certain well known individual on these boards I was able to also obtain a fallen son, which i equipped with the talon of horus from Abaddon the despoiler. Abaddon in return received the leftover talon, which looks pretty cool on him. I'm finishing that somewhat converted model and hope to have it ready over the weekend, so I can show it soon. I can already reveal it contains the oildrum-shoulderpads inspired by Wolf Lord Mjolnir's great work.

now, it's time to present my version of the warmaster: Lupercal!

ps if this topic is technically better placed in the blog section of the forum, feel free to move it. i do intend to post some updates the next few weeks (or months/years/decades, however quick i manage to produce updates)

horusundivided - June 15, 2009 07:40 PM (GMT)
and here is my new Abaddon.

conversions consist of adding a topknot from a AOBR ork, giving him the claw that was left over from my horus (and so ironically equiping him in fact with the talon of Horus), changing the deamon-swords blade for the one from the DA upgrade sprue, shoulderguards a la Wolf Lord Mjolnir using Tamiya's German fuel drums and my personal favorite touch, a chaos spawn's eye where the skull on abaddon's chest was.

and yes, I know he should wear a black terminatorsuit being Justaerin and all, but as I explained earlier I want al my models in the legion-colours. So consider this to be Abaddon in his spare uniform for special occasions :)

That's very cool - the new Abaddon looks much nicer!

Iron Corsair - June 24, 2009 11:49 PM (GMT)
Indeed, the new Abaddon is VERY cool. He and the Fallen Son are my favorite models you've made so far.

Iacton - June 25, 2009 07:43 AM (GMT)
Lots of lovely work there, HU.

Like the conversions at lot and you've got a really good colour going for the SoH models.

Congrats, and keep it up B)

(Oh, and you're welcome :) )

Maratheus - June 25, 2009 07:50 AM (GMT)
I really like the work you've done on Abaddon.
This army is coming along nicely, great unified colour scheme. :)

I already posted this as an entry to the vehicle contest in that thread, but of course i also need tot ad this baby to my own blog.

I proudly present my dreadnought, based on a warmachine Khador Destroyer.

I have to say the contest has been a really big help in finishing this project, it has helped me to get me motivated enough to finish it in time. without that deadline i doubt i would had it finished anytime soon and now i can happily add this big badass to my evergrowing legion.

KRUG_666 - July 13, 2009 05:49 AM (GMT)
Nice! I too have been using the warmachine stuff for pre-heresy things...just not for dreds....found them to small...but make good enemies!!!

Im curious as to how you paint your green as well....always good to see a fellow Son of Horus.

Whitehorn - July 13, 2009 08:43 AM (GMT)
Very nice models and clean paint work. Do you plan to add any depth/highlights to the grey? It looks a little flat at the moment.

Iron Corsair - July 13, 2009 01:23 PM (GMT)
Excellent Dread, Horus!

horusundivided - July 14, 2010 02:39 PM (GMT)
update time!

i just absolutely fell in love with the new venerable dreadnought, so i decided my warmachine dread was up for replacement. however, i realised i had two other unfinished dreadnoughts lying around, an old metal bloodangel dreadnought and the AOBR one. so i put myself under the moral obligation of finishing those two first before starting to paint the new one. and that was a good thing, since i now have not one but three dreadnoughts finished, one of which has been for over 10 years in the making.

also i made a shrine of the aquila combined with parts of the sanctum imperialis as a display piece for my emperor. i used art from Aerion the faitfull over at deviant art (link at the bottom of this post) for the windows (printed the pictures on a overhead-projector sheet). hope you'll enjoy my efforts!

Is that the Emperor is see?

SOH are looking brilliant, i like the little tweaks you have made to Horus AND Abbadon. The colour youre using is really nice and ties them all together.

keep it up

horusundivided - July 18, 2010 08:42 PM (GMT)
thanks Azkaellon!

having a few days off from work has allowed me to finally finish my terminator squad, which was actually the first thing i bought for my SOH army. the terminators got altered alot though throughout the last two years and in the end i'm quite happy with the way they've turned out (for comparison, the one in the front is actually the same mini that started out as my abbadon-wannabe, shown in the first post of this blog. he now looks much better IMO).

HU - I can't believe I missed this when you posted it! They're looking great, very bulky and true to the artwork. Very nice.

SM - that's one of those special edition large scale models that GW did ages ago.

@shroud: thanks :)

after receiving a package from maxmini i couldn't resist updating abaddon with some shoulderpads, and while i was at it i also threw a cape on him.

Time for another update in this very slowly progressing blog, my unit of lodge-members. The lodges are a very cool part of the SOH background, so i'm surprised not to have seen more of them yet. if games-worshop brings out chaplain cassius in finecast I'll have a proper shot at converting a chaplain Erebus to join this squad.

as you can see, this army needs some hight to fill out the space in my kabinet. fear not, that'll happen sometime soon (hopefully) as i'm currently finishing a stormraven which I intend to mount on a landing pad (which at the moment still resides savely in a store somewhere waiting for a right moment to join my steadily growing pile of still-to-finish stuff. The missus keeps joking that my real hobby is buying stuff instead of painting it :P )

horusundivided - July 24, 2011 02:47 PM (GMT)
i'm actually at a roll with my sons, and have finished my apothecary, the first member of a command squad. It was inspired by the old rogue trader BA apothecary, which has for many years been the ultimate vision for me how an apothecary should look. so when i got my hands on the beaky veteran it was a small step to convert him up as a tribute to that classic, of course minus the far too large banner which the poor sucker had to drag along with him.

user posted image

and as a reminder for those who don't immediately remember the old apothecary (or were too young at the time to have ever seen it) i took a picture of it from my second edition rulebook

Very good job on the doc, great model to use

horusundivided - July 30, 2011 09:08 AM (GMT)
thanks Bigwill!

while the apothecary got his inspiration from an older miniature, my next one was actually inspired by...itself.

i have redone the model i first made as warmaster Horus (from the first post of this blog). he was the first model i did for this army so i've always kept warm feelings for him. however, he was replaced by the kabuki/ronin one as horus and i robbed him of his cape to give it to abbaddon, so he was rather useless and was robbed of his former glory. and because he was the first model i painted some elements i later added to the army to make them look uniform were missing on him. So i decided to improve upon him slightly by redoing some of the old paintjob to more match the colours of the army (especially his loincloth and claws), by adding some hight (so he could still pose as a primarch), throw in a newe cape and by giving him one maxmini shoulderpad. so i now present my horus-stand-in version 1.2 (the metal Horus still remains the big leader of the bunch)

horusundivided - October 6, 2012 12:55 PM (GMT)
time for my annual update :D

I've finished a combat squad of mkIV marines. I used regular CSM legs, backpacks and shoulderpads to keep them in the same style as the rest of the army. i kitbashed the sergeant using a thousand sons torso (ideal with al the eye-deco) and a WFB chaos warrior cape. I liked the result so much that I repeated the process for the sergeant of my mk V squad. Currently I'm, finishing 5 more mkIV's, including a standard bearer so that I'll have a full tactical squad of them as well. well, I guess I'll show them in next years entry :P

I've also (finally) finished my stormraven, all it still needs is a SOH symbol on the sides but I couldn't force myself in to adding that yet.

on to the pictures:

That's a really nice Sons of Horus army you have there!

Can't believe I've missed it before now.

Nice idea for the Lodge members and you've done a great job with Erebus.
