Title: OCTOBER 2008 - Imperial Fists Captain
Description: Iacton's PH Golden Demon entry

ShroudFilm - October 11, 2008 06:59 PM (GMT)
Well guys, Golden Demon 2008 has now passed - we felt that it would be unwise to step on the toes of the GD entrants among us by having Display Case entries when we knew the best was undoubtedly being saved for the big contest itself!

This time, we welcome Display Case veteran Iacton back to the floor, with his excellent Golden Demon 'Honourable Mention' entry Brother Duncan, Imperial Fist Captain!

Here is what Iacton had to say to us -

----------
Well, first of all, thanks for having me back in the Display Case. It is a really nice feeling to get voted in by you guys for doing something that was such fun.

Br. Duncan, the Fist, was really borne out of a few factors. One was the base, that I wanted to make matching to Br. Archie - the Night Lord - and it screamed to me that the slanted fallen stone work needed a big, power armoured boot planted against it. The next was that I had just done a parts swap with Weiss and I was busting to use the pointy power fist as soon as possible! Finally I had a little consignment of heads from iseeleadpeople previously and the head that became Duncan's was amongst them.

I had been toying with GS for a while and had seen Big Will's work on Mk3 armour too. His work got me thinking as to whether there was another, more "chunky" way to do the armour, but without large scale conversion. Anyway the now ubiquitous "Iacton pants" were born and the chest was amended to suit too.
At the same time, I had bits of GS left over and so converted several helms to look more Pre-Heresy, including Dunc's eventual unique "Pokemon Ball" helmet. Also, having been relatively successful with Archie's GS Night Lord icon pad, I thought that I would try out a couple of others which included Br. Mavis' IW pad, Br. Harold's WS pad and, of course, Dunc's fist pad.

The parts prepared, he was glued together and tweaked - I can't tell you how many times I redid that bolter strap! - before painting. At that stage I was still deciding which Legion to make him, since I had 4 possibilities (including a metal Sallie/Alpha pad), but the big power fist won me over to the Fists in the end.

And so we came to the paint...
The wife was going away for a few days on a work jolly and so I had a 3 day window for paint and most importantly BEER! (Remember to drink in moderation kids!) I don't need to go into colours and whatever here (it's well documented elsewhere), but it was the 1st model that I used the GW washes on extensively and also my 1st attempt at real weathering and battle damage, both of which I was quite happy with.

After the 3 days, and with some input on details both here and at B&C, he was finished, photographed and popped on the shelf next to his "mate" Archie, who had won the Colchester GW store's heat of the national painting contest.

Games Day came, and I decided to have a punt by entering him for 40k single amongst some amazing models - including Nano's fantastic sword winning Iron Snake, which I tipped to win as soon as I saw it. I was really excited just to show him, but hoped that he, and maybe the duel dio, would make the 1st cut. He did
With regular updates from a friend of Angels_Blade, I heard that he was in the finalists' cabinet, and then, apparently up for an Honourable Mention.

I still await "official" confirmation of this fact (when GW get round to their website migration), but, that aside, this guy was a blast to build, paint and display. I doubt that I will ever part with him, and he still makes me smile, as he stands on the shelf next to my GD finalist's pin badge.

Thanks once again for your kind words and encouragement, and perhaps now we can all dislike the Imperial Bananamen just a little less!

Congratulations again to Iacton for being the first member to rack up a second Display Case entry, and I can't wait to see what he's got up his sleeve next!

It's back to business as usual now that GD is over, so please do keep those nominations coming in - remember, we don't decide who gets in here... you do!

Thanks guys, for the kind words AND the votes too. ^_^

I hope that my work will continue to inspire and also that I continue to improve.

It is great to dot around between all of the legions and cherry pick one on a whim to make a fuss of. Hopefully Br. Horatio/Hamlet w/e will be a nice addition soon, plus the little lad that is ready to receive the brush for the conversion comp. Just got to figure out the colours.... :ph43r:

Just noticed how cool and red that helmet is on him, that has to be my favourite part of the model now, bar the weathering (wish I could do weathering on minis to this standard, mutter mutter mutter.... <_< )

:D :D

I just love it when I see a model painted that well! since I am new to SM I was planning on doing an imp. fists army. This is a big inspiration about what can be achieved.
