Title: The Lion

What type of armour would the Lion where? A large suit of power armour?
ShroudFilm - August 19, 2008 11:01 PM (GMT)
I think so. And that armour should be archaic looking too...

Go for the knightly feel. You may wish to look at the Primarch Models thread in the trading post, I believe Iacton posted a concept up for him (else just ask him, he's a nice enough sort...)

Cool, I was thinking about starting a pre-heresy Dark angels army and I need some inspiration on the models.

Another question for you guys, would the Librarians of the Legion wear blue or black armour??
Gagoc TheAncient - August 21, 2008 05:33 PM (GMT)
Most of us seem to have painted Librarians in their Legion colours, but with a smattering of blue.
For example my avatar is my Thousand son Librarian, and the only blue on him is the gem on his forehead, and the loincloth he wears.
Others have done a blue shoulderpad, or blue accessories, etc, etc.
Of course if their Smurfs, then problem solved.

Well for the First Legion/Dark Angels the Librarians appear to have worn black armour along with their brethren. However the Dark Angel Librarian was distinguished by other elements. There is an excellent description of Brother Librarian Israfael in Descent of Angels which highlights these characteristics:
|QUOTE (Descent of Angels @ Page 246)|
|...[An] Astartes in ornate armour...His armour was adorned with all manner of symbols that Zahriel did not recognise, and he carried a golden staff topped with a device that resembled a horned skull.|
As the Codex Astartes did not exist at this time, there is no certainty that blue was even a colour associated with Librarians at this point.
Are you going to be doing a Pre-Heresy Dark Angels army based before or after the discovery of the Lion on Caliban? I was wondering as this will have an impact on how your troops look.

I'm planning out a dark angel army and just trying to figure out everything in advance. Might even try to use green stuff, but I don't want to get to far ahead of myself. But one other question. Where do you guys find all this information? It really is amazing
Vulkan81 - August 21, 2008 06:00 PM (GMT)
After Johnson was discovered by the Emperor. I was thinking that picking up the dark angels thing from gw would go a long way in converting models.

Too much reading I'm afraid and the gift of an excellent memory. I get my information from all of the Horus Heresy books that have been released and lots of other related books, articles etc. Have been into all this since before Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader even existed! :D
Have you read Descent of Angels?
Vulkan81 - August 21, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
A couple times, the problem is I don't hold on to what I read. I've been re-reading the entire heresy saga. But I still don't retain that much.

You're not the only one man, don't worry...
Vulkan81 - August 22, 2008 11:30 AM (GMT)
I will say this the more times that I read Descent of Angels, the more I like it. I really would like to either convert (no skills here) or buy a Lion El'Johnson figure. There is just something badass about him.

i know from a sketch what his helmet was like.
He had a sort of brettonian style helm andand if you've seen high elf silver helm champions helm with feathers up the side and a lion's head on the top

That model is awesome.
I'm not a massive fan of Jonson ever being depicted as predominantly 'blonde-haired'.
I loved ADB's description of him in TFH, and then again in the small excerpt I've seen of Savage Weapons.
I've always had him down as, if he did have blonde elements to his hair, it'd be the very, very top highlight of his hair.
Underneath would be dark...just like him.
Appears to be one thing on the surface, but is actually darker beneath!
The guy needs to be a walking metaphor for himself!! ;)
