Title: My Early Crusade Speartip
Description: L.Wolves & E.Children

Yvraith - January 22, 2008 09:40 AM (GMT)
Thought I'd post my pics of my slowly growing speartip.
As mentioned elswhere, it is based around the early days of the crusade.
When the Emperors Children weren't strong enough to campaign on their own.

I love both commanders man. The first one just looks so dynamic!

Ithmaril - January 22, 2008 04:06 PM (GMT)
That LW jumppacker needs some work, but you've mentioned that he's WIP, so no problems with that.
The standard bearer is exceptional, I love the banner... is that an all-around-freehand? If yes, consider me massivly impressed. :)

One more thing, the white on your captain looks kinda very rough... maybe it's just the picture and its lighting.

rohanboi - January 22, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
nice man i like the first capt!
also lucius is nice :)
keep it up

Fortronus - January 22, 2008 05:33 PM (GMT)
Keep it up ! these are some good looking models

Falkus Kibre - January 22, 2008 09:53 PM (GMT)
I like them but i think you need to hightlight the black, and you need to thin your paints.

Vredesbyrd - January 22, 2008 10:02 PM (GMT)
Really like Syrakul and the Standard Bearer, is Syrakul's crest just GS?

A very nice concept, well executed, looking forward to see the force grow.

Rogal Dorn - January 22, 2008 10:37 PM (GMT)
i really like how the paint looks pitted in places, makes it seem more real...and my pitted i mean it looks rather like cement

Yvraith - January 23, 2008 04:16 AM (GMT)
The crests are made by trimming the longer points of Iron Halos to the same height as the smaller ones, then green stuffing the rest, leaving the spikes then gives the GS something to bond to.

Then I cut out the horizontal cross piece and use a part of a spare High Elf spear for the piece to attatch to the helmet.
(By leaving the cross piece in as you scult the green stuff it gives you something to hold on to and not get finger prints all over it.)

Then under coat and paint as desired.
When I do my next one, I'll do a proper tutorial if people would want pics of each stage.

Rogal Dorn - January 23, 2008 04:41 AM (GMT)
that would be nice since im painting my friends White Scars and World Eaters

cant wait mate, keep churning them out

Vredesbyrd - January 23, 2008 04:44 AM (GMT)
A walkthrough would be very nice. If its good enough I'll twist Shroud's arm to pin it in the Tutorial forums.

Looking forward to it.

Manneus Drath - January 23, 2008 06:12 AM (GMT)
I dont know why...but I love the Luna Wolves squad. Its just...so pre-heresy...makes me feel like these are warriors of the great crusade, and their objectives are clear. I dont know how to explain it, but the overall feel of the models is great.

If the action shot wasn't so grainy, I could use it to make some amazing digital artwork...

I just changed my action shot for a couple of new ones, Maybe you could use one of those. :)

Finally an update of sorts.
Some WIP pics of some Catulan Reavers. (Quality is not great but you get the idea!)
I'm still waiting on some bits before I paint them.

I'll try to get my EC tactical squads Weapons painted so I can post them soon too.
(Damn new shiny PS3!) :D

Iacton - June 3, 2008 07:27 AM (GMT)
And here was me thinking that you were just busy polishing your 2 competition wins!!! :P

The update models look cool, just one problem....... where's the paint??!!!

Looks like someone else has been to the bits shop for all those heads too ;)

Vredesbyrd - June 3, 2008 08:16 AM (GMT)
What with you and Kaleb 'Angelus' Dante doing big bits orders of late I'm surprised there's any plastic bitz left in the world at all. :P

In all seriousness though these are looking kick ass, those helmets are perfect for Catulan Reavers in my mind. I'd use the idea myself but I can never remove the horns and clean them up well enough.

What are you planning on using for the jump packs for them then? Homemade ones, the old beer keg ones or perhaps the resin kit that the buzz is producing currently?

The resin kit from The Buzz
I also ordered some of his Terminator Shouder pads too. Hmmm.....Justaerin (insert Homer Drool!)

They should be here soon. :D

Yeh! e-bay has been great for bits, I've had them for a while. That reminds me, I should check to see if there are any Terminator Power weapon arms floating around! :D

the buzz - June 3, 2008 12:59 PM (GMT)
They are in the post my friend !!

Can't wait to see what you do with them

Cheers,

I think I cleared out Bitzbox.co.uk stock :D

Looking great so far by the way Yvraith can't wait to see these all painted.

I think they could do with topknots
At least one for the sgt
but your army looks great

Weiss - June 6, 2008 08:01 AM (GMT)
They look nice and menacing! That helmet is great. Are they all going to have it?

Iacton - June 6, 2008 08:03 AM (GMT)
I'm going to go totally against the grain here (sorry Will) and say that top knots on helmets look a bit silly to me....there....I've said it, and I can't un-say it :o *phew*

I also believe that a backpack banner is tantamount to painting a bullseye on your forehead, but that's a whole other story.....

That said, these guys need something to make them show up as well as your "regular" Lunas.

It may be that the lighting isn't helping, but you definitely need some highlighting to the face plates - certainly some fine grey lines to the edges - and obviously the eye colouring will help.

I'm sure that the Legion Icon will also help. What are you planning for the Reavers own badge?

On the Top Knots & Back Banners- it's not going to happen, I agree with Iacton.
The Sergeant may get some white chevrons on his vambrace (US style I think), when he's painted (he's "Sir not appearing in this thread" yet!).

On the Helmets yep, they will all have them, (my wallet is crying already!) though some may be bare headed.

The lighting was really crap when I took these this morning, I'll try and take some better ones tonight or over the weekend.
There is a Codex Grey "extreme" highlight on the edges of the armour in places but the pics didn't do them justice. (Black sucks to photograph by the way, :D )
The eyes need to be touched up. (damn Black wash! )

On the Reavers own unit marking/badge...... I have no Idea.....Yet.
(Maybe crossed butter knives.....) :D

Iacton - June 6, 2008 12:32 PM (GMT)
Luna wolves are far too uncouth for butter knives user posted image user posted image

You may have to use some matte varnish before you do the final pics, otherwise the glare is just plain nasty on black models.

(I might just put one in just to spite you. :D)

I might try the Matt Varnish trick.
But here's a better shot of the face plate highlights.

I know it's been a while since my last update, sorry but still now further progress on the Reavers, yet...

But He's something that came to me over the last couple of weeks, and so after a little bit of research and a peek at Apologist's GS hair on his Blog.

I give you my WIP Lord Commander Vespasian.

The Helmet isn't glued in place yet to allow ease of painting, I'm aware of the Belt Buckle Crux but was planning on explaining it as a honour badge of some sort.
I know the lighting wsan't ideal for these but once he's painted I make sure to take some good shots!

I'll be doing an Eidolon soon too, just a soon as his head arrives, it wasn't in the blister pack!

C & C more than welcome. :D

Iacton - September 13, 2008 08:51 AM (GMT)
Huzzah! I was starting to worry that your arms had fallen off! :D

The conversion looks really good to me, not too over done, and the hair works too by the looks of things.

Vredesbyrd - September 13, 2008 12:56 PM (GMT)
In that first shot I thought he was wearing a laurel wreath which made me wonder how you'd done it.

He's looking pretty sweet right like, simple conversions are the way forward in life I feel.

Tarik Torgaddon - September 13, 2008 01:22 PM (GMT)
He looks ace mate, a simple yet very effective conversion.
Where is his left hand/arm from? I know I've seen it somewhere I just can't remember :P .

Yvraith - September 13, 2008 09:47 PM (GMT)
I toyed with the idea of giving him a wreath, to the extent that I even put one on him, but I thought he looked better without it, so i removed it again.

The left hand is an old 2ed marine arm cut off at the elbow joint.

If anyone is wondering about how I did the hair,
I just smothed a blob of GS over the head with my thumb (a high quality sculpting tool that one) :D
I used my pin vice bit to dab at the GS so it looked like short & slightly curly hair.
Then I used my sculpting tool to lift the fringe slightly and push the GS back to uncover his ears.

Now the fun part begins, making sure I don't screw up the paint job!

Yvraith - September 15, 2008 10:18 AM (GMT)
Here's an Update of sorts, I still have his sword & hair to do (He's described as Goldenhaired in Fulgrim) :D As well as some various other minor detailing.

His Cloak I've decided to paint red due to the Lacerna Cloaks after the ones decribed in Fulgrim.

Here he is so far. (Sorry the light quality was bad.) <_<

Very nice colours... I especially like the Face and the Gold... (I do not dislike the rest, but the EC as a hole... <_<)
Have you forgotten to highlight his right arm, or is it just the picture?
Will he get a normal backpack, or an MkIII'ish one... Like the one from Helbrecht....

Yvraith - September 15, 2008 11:13 PM (GMT)
Aquilla No highlights have been applied yet, the Backpack I haven't thought about yet to be honest.

Arrrrgh! I've just spotted a bloody mold line! *throws soft cushion across the room in frustration!* user posted image

Now I'm going to have to get creative and come up with something to disguise it.
Maybe some gold ornamentation on his Vambraces...

Weiss - September 16, 2008 06:58 AM (GMT)

He looks really good sir! Can't wait to see him with white hair (and the creative use of gold to offset the oversight).

That wing you're using suits the Kids really well, though it does seem to lack a claw...
