Title: The Welcome Thread
Description: Come and introduce yourself!

ShroudFilm - January 15, 2008 02:25 PM (GMT)
Welcome to the new pre-Heresy boards!

As you can see, there are a few differences in the way things are laid out... if you have any suggestions on how we can improve, please make them known.

Anyway, for those of you who don't know me from the old boards, my name is Laurie and I'm a film producer with an unhealthy pre-Heresy obsession! I'm from Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire (UK) and I'm collecting World Eaters and Imperial Army troops at the moment.

Ithmaril - January 15, 2008 02:56 PM (GMT)

I'm Ith, real name is Kamil. The location is Munich, Germany, and I'm currently studying media design & IT, working as a freelance web- and printdesigner, and illustrator. I'm building and painting a World Eaters Army... as soon as I find the time again to actually work with all that stuff I buy. Studying keeps kicking my ass at the moment.

Horus Aximand - January 15, 2008 03:55 PM (GMT)
Hey guys! I'm Horus Aximand, your loveable moderator from the old forums.

But really I'm called Jonathan, and I'm currently preparing for my exams. I am aiming ti become a graphic designer of sorts, but where, I don't quite know.

I have a sizeable force of Blood Ravens for 40k, and for PreHeresy gaming I was intending on building a Luna Wolf army, but now I am considering some form of Truescale army. Possibly Alpha Legion...

Tiriel - January 15, 2008 04:11 PM (GMT)
Hey men!

Here I am. Glad to be on the new boards ;)

So just a quick refresh.
I'm Tiriel, Benjamin IRL, currently music student (cello player), and I collect and (sometimes) play 40k for many years. I got all sorts of Power Amoured armies Post-Heresy (DIY Chapter, Black Templars, Blood Angels), Some points of PH Thousand Sons, and currently building up PH Ultras and Dark Angels!

Oh yeah, and I'm from Paris, France (you lucky guys don't have to bear with my french accent on the net ;) )

Alpharius - January 15, 2008 04:37 PM (GMT)

Weiss - January 15, 2008 04:43 PM (GMT)
Hello all! I was Weiss before, and I'm Weiss now (that rimes with "vice" by the way (have had a few problems with that before...)).

Real name dave, hailing from kent, more specifically (to my intense shame) Maidstone...

Currently eneter data for a company, though most of my time is spent bunking off I suppose...

Am currently on the fence between a Dark Angels, Thousand Sons or Word Bearers army.

BigWill - January 15, 2008 07:36 PM (GMT)
Hey guys it's Esinhorn from the old boards.
I'm dropping that name in favor of BigWill.
My name is Roy (j/k it's William) and I've been collecting and painting Warhammer 40k since 1st edition but took a 10 yr break when I joined the Navy and getting my life set up.
I picked the hobby back up 2 yrs ago when I was toying around with the idea to try to get some original artwork published and picked up the new 4th edition To get ideas and bought the painters starter kit to see if it was still fun.
The rest is History :D

GreyWolf - January 15, 2008 09:37 PM (GMT)
Hi again everyone. Yes, that's right, the horribly long-winded GreyWolf is here now.
Anyway, I currently play Luna Wolves for Pre-Heresy, and Black Legion for regular 40k. Been playing and painting for about four years now. Real name's Dennis, and I'm an Amercian from northern Virginia. About ready to go off to college, so don't be surprised if I disappear in a few months (ROTC and all that's going to be a bit time consuming). The new boards look "fresh" and hopefully this will help our little community free itself from the stagnation that was beginning on the old board. Good to be here.

EDIT: Now that I've had the chance to look around a bit, I would like to say that I liked the old forum's use of a seperate forum for each Legion; it kept things more organized. I know its not a problem at all now (we've only got 18 members), but I can envision it becoming problematic in the future.

Mithras - January 15, 2008 09:42 PM (GMT)
Hello, I'm... Mithras... from the old Forum. Huge shock there.

Pre-Heresy projects on the table include Death Guard and Ultramarines.

My name is Alex. I'm 30 years old, and I'm currently working on getting my PHD in Archaeology. I have focused on the Romans and Mithraism, lately, but more generally I'm broadly interested in religion, warfare, and cross-acculturation up through the Middle Ages.

In my non-academic vein, I do a lot of writing, and game design (board games and miniatures games). I hope to become more involved in the gaming industry in the near future. I would love to have a crack at writing one of the HH Novels. Also do a lot of miniature wargaming (both sci-fi/fantasy and historical) and even some roleplaying.

(And this despite some unpleasant experiences with big name game companies you've heard of who talk me up, propose a job, and then, at the last minute, forget who I am.)

I currently live in Southern California, and have lived in the UK (which I wouldn't mind doing again, some day).

Lion El' Jonson - January 15, 2008 10:07 PM (GMT)
hey lads, I'm Lion El' Jonson, old forum mod, and new forum mod too.

My real names Ian, I'm 16 and born and bred in Scotland.

Not really got much going on the modelling side at the moment, but I'mstarting up again and I'm starting with some PH Dark Angels and a rhino.

in real life mainly i'm just playing bass and being your average 16 year old guy

BigWill - January 15, 2008 10:14 PM (GMT)
LOL, you do not have to write what your old board name was if it is still the same :P

Gagoc TheAncient - January 15, 2008 10:39 PM (GMT)
I'm Gary. I've been into 40K since '88. I've never built a proper army before, but I'm working on one now. It's an army made up of a mix of Loyalists from the Traitor Legions, this is so I can play it in either a 30K or 40K campaign.
I live in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

I'm wondering where I can post the Formative armour and other background articles I have. And eventually a possible guide to converting most forms of Astartes armour.
Does anyone know if there'll be any further developments to the structure of this board?

Drew - January 15, 2008 10:55 PM (GMT)
Hey everyone i'm Drew. I'm 19 and from Wolverhampton.

I've been into 40k for about 3/4 years now and have been into pre-heresy stuff for about 1 or 2 years. I've always been more of a fluff guy but i'm now trying to get the modelling and painting side going with an eye to eventually getting some games in.

I'm currently collecting Black Templars for 40k and Pre-Heresy Ultras and Luna Wolves. Might throw a few Dark Angels in as well. Just for the hell of it.

Yvraith - January 15, 2008 11:09 PM (GMT)
Hi Everyone, I'm also from the Old Forum.

I'm about to turn 31 and I'm from Tasmania, Australia.

Been into 40k since around 92. Started with Dark Angels & Eldar.
But since reading the new HH boks have started a combined Luna Wolves, Emperor's Children Force.

shrike2214 - January 15, 2008 11:51 PM (GMT)
Hey guys
My names Jason, iv been into 40k for a good 4-5 years Im a bit of a fluffist and i like to build rather than paint.
My spelling and grammer may be a lil off but thats my Dyslexia talking :)
Well i look forward to seeing you guys around the boards

Hlǫkkbrandr - January 16, 2008 12:10 AM (GMT)
Hey everyone!

I used to be "I_AM_CANADIAN!" from the old board, buuuuuut I thought it was time for a change so now I use this name which is Old Norse for shrieking blade. :) My real name is Samantha and I'm from Canada (kind of a give away with the whole "I_AM_CANADIAN!" thing  ). But yeah, I love 30k fluff and have a thing for Warhammer humor  . I enjoy science and languages; currently I am learning Old Norse. I speak German pretty well and just the tiniest bit of Swedish. Anyways, I hope I'll have just as much fun here as I did on the old board!

I'd say throw it into the Space Marines forum AND the Q&A for now. If we think of a better place, we can move it later...

Absolutely - you guys are the owners, I'm just the caretaker! :D

Tell me what you want, and I'll see what I can magic up.

Amendera - January 16, 2008 12:53 AM (GMT)
Hi -

My name is Jen, and I'm quite glad that Hlkkbrandr is here so there are at least 2 women on the board now!

I'm 30 years old, and I am married to Mithras! Although I've been a historical minis gamer for several years, I am brand-new to 40K - actually still don't know much about 40K, but got hooked on 30K from Black Library's Horus Heresy series. I am currently painting PH Blood Angels, just got a Baal Predator that I'm looking forward to painting (once I've glued the 2 million parts, of course!) After the Blood Angels, I will either start on some Eldar, or some PH Sons of Horus.

I also enjoy the Warhammer humor threads! I posted a new entry late last night on the old boards (some "motivational posters") so will probably re-post here later!

lakedaemon480bc - January 16, 2008 06:05 AM (GMT)

My name's Chris Reed, aka Vredesbyrd. I'm 19 and I'm from The Great Border City of Carlisle in the extreme north west of England, though I'm currently studying at the University of Aberdeen, which for you non-Britons is in the far north east of Scotland. I'm studying History, Celtic and Gaelic, hence the Gaelic above. I've been playing Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 for about seven years and have played a fair few armys in my time, though my perennial favourites have to be my Chaos Emperor's Children and Tomb Kings (not Egyptian mark you, Celtic all the way baby!).

I've recently started work on a Pre-Heresy army but due to being back at Uni work on it will be sporadic. Whatever does get done will be put up on here though, as I'm online all the time for work and have the attention span of an inqusitive puppy!

Arven - January 16, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)
Hello everyone :)

I'm Tom, and I live in Sheffield, apart from the holidays when I visit my parents in London. I'm 19, and a Student studying Zoology at... Sheffield Uni.

Je suis moitie francais, du cote de maman. Elle est reunionaise et c'est chouette, j'adore aller en vacances la! (Mais c'est loin, donc ca ne se passe pas souvent.)

I've been in the hobby since I was a kid. Must be around 9 years now, though I can't remember exactly. My first ever wargaming kit was a box of Grey Hunters and now I have over 3000 points of SW, as well as about 1500 points of 13th Company (PH colour scheme ftw). I've also collected Eldar and currently have a SM chapter, a Tau force and a Death Guard army. I don't have anything in the 30k realm worth calling an army, but enjoy painting random models when I find the time, and stalking these boards :) If I ever do find the time, I'd enjoy building an army around crusade-era of Dusk Raiders and World Eaters. I've also flirted with the idea of an Istvaan III loyalist defence force.

And one day I may even post some pictures on here!

Manneus Drath - January 17, 2008 01:58 AM (GMT)

They are one of the trickier armies to get the hang of, yes. With so much speciallised units and such low Toughness across across the board, you can easily get slaughtered if you don't know what you're doing. That said, once you do know what you're doing, you can really return the favour. It's certainly a long shot from playing SM! They do look really nice one painted though I have to say!

ShroudFilm - January 17, 2008 02:36 PM (GMT)
Hey, I managed to wipe out 26 Deathwing Termies using only 40 Guardians, 2 Warlocks, 2 anti-grav platforms and 5 Dark Reapers! :D

I'm not saying that Eldar aren't any good. Anyway, massed firepower is easily the best way to get rid of terminators. How were they deployed btw? If they weren't in LRs or at least aboard their Stormbird (Deep Strike), then they were asking for it.

ShroudFilm - January 17, 2008 03:59 PM (GMT)
This was 1000pts... that was essentially the whole army. They plodded across the battlefield and I swarmed them.

Having said that, it was a NARROW win. I only had 3 Reapers left! Toughness 3 is a killer in 40k...

It may be because Artimum has been away since I joined the old boards, but he seems to be almost aggressive in his management to me - especially with comments about Sig. length and such. Is he just laying down the law after being away a while or is this how things work over there?
