I took Pop's out last Friday morning before the bottom fell out of the sky. It had rained off and on all night and the temps were cool enough to get him out without fear of heat stroke. Anyway, I wasn't real pupmed about the walk because the water seems to keep them in the dens a lil longer. As we walked down the trail we bumped a deer and Pop's took off after it. I was a bit upset and I yelled at him to get away ffrom it and was VERY surprised because he's never ran a deer since I've had him and we've seen several. As I was yelling at him he kept on going and I took off in hot pursuit only to find he was not chasing the deer but was hot after a squirrel that was beside the deer. That thing jumped up on the side of a tree only about 2 feet off the ground and was watching the deer run down the hill. Needless to say, it should have climbed higher as it was still in reach of Pop's mouth. Good doy for him, bad day for the squirrel. Luckily it was a male. I even called my DNR buddy to report the incident to see if there were any steps I needed to take. He pretty much said so long as I didn't claim it or take the meat, I was in the clear because I didn't kill it, the dog did. I had considered taking it but decided against it as it had a wovel in it. I really like this dog a lot.

I go nuts when one of my dogs catch a squirrel and really start having fun. River Queen has snatched up a few and it never gets any less exciting for me.
