Title: Knives

I'm just wondering if any of you guy's have any loyalty to brands when it comes to carrying a blade either for hunting or for general carry. When it comes to deer I almost always carry a Buck blade. I really like the smaller black handled fixed balde. I believe it's a 110 but can't remember. I know it's not the big bowie style but the smaller thinner one. If I can lay my hande on it later I'll put the model number in here.

For general carry and skinning squirrels I have an older folding Buck knife that locks open but it's not my first choice. I've got a knife that my parent's bought me years ago when we went to TN and passed Smoky Mt Knife Works. It's a Camillus lever lock and it's the bomb. For some reason, I lose it quite often. Seems I leave it in a pair of pants that get placed somewhere and are never seen for months and sometimes years at a time. I was cleaning my basement to make room for my new reloading bench and was going through an old tote of clothes. It was in the pocket of a pair of hunting pants. I about pee'd my pants when I found it. Haven't let it out of my sight sense and don't plan to. I've actually had the knife for about 13 years but haven't gotten to carry it much because it manages to evade me for lengthy periods of time. Will post a pic of it later.

I carry a small buck knife with me everyday it is by far the best knife I have ever owned. It has small wooden handle and a single blade. I think it is a 329 not gonna swear it is wore pretty bad. I use this knife for splinter picking, whittling, electrical wiring, screw driver, and as a skinner, fruit peeler and what ever else you can imagine. I also have a bigger buck knife with a lockback blade I use for skinning rabbits sq deer turkey or whatever I may have killed. Wish I had never used it it was a knife my dad won at a company picnic probably 20 years or more ago. It had something about Westmorland Coal co on the blade and the handle is nice seems like it is mad of some type horn. It has a lot of value to me and will probably remain put up for the rest of its life

I have a little 102 Buck. It has a black handle and is a dream to carry. I would much rather carry a smaller knife.
As my chioce, it doesn't matter as long as it isn't a cheepo piece of junk.
I butcher a lot of Deer and I use a lot of different knives to do it. My favorate thing to do is go to flee marketts and look for real old kitchen/butcher knives. The ones with wooden handles.
Any size and any condition, I'll buy them. Have never seen ont that wouldn't sharpen up real well. I stay away from the modern plastic handle knives.

Thanks Skeets. That was a nice offer. Has anyone ever used a knife made from an old cross cut saw? Those suckers will cut your finger off in a heart beat.

I really like Gerber Knives. I've had several of them and really like them for deer hunting. The Gator series are the ones I normally buy. I lost my last one and got a folding Kershaw knife with a gut hook on it. Absolutely love the new knife. It is razor sharp and holds an edge well. After cutting up through the rib cage it is easy to get it razor sharp again.

For small game I carry a Gerber Gatormate and/or a Schrade Sharpfinger. Both are excellent for that job.

Here is a link to the best knife sharpener that I've ever owned (and I've had a lot of them). If you don't have one I'd get one as soon as you can. I got mine at Wal-Mart for about $8 and keep it in the pocket of my game vest. The thig is just awesome!

Gerber knives are decent and I've got one of the Gator lines still. I had a nice one but lost it somewhere. Anyway, while they are good knives, they do seem to lose their edge in a hurry when compared to other knives. I really like my buck knives and am reluctant to buy anything else right now. I've found that some of thier smaller knives are being made in China now so I try and stay away from them but thier larger knives that are still made in USA are great IMHO. Kershaw makes some great knives and they are really sweet. I'd like to get a really nice, high end knife some time but I'd just lose it. So for now, I'll stick with what I've got.

I think I've owned every knife know to man... :funny: . I like my old timer but, not my fav. I like my case xx but, not my fav. I would have to say at of all my knives I own I carry and use more of my Buck kinfe then any of them. I really like the look, how it holds an edge, light weight. Just a great knife I use for every day things and hunting things.
