Ive been thinking on an assault unit... anynone else see the merit of Drones... as an anti assault unit?

Marker light a unit up... add to BS and - from Ld checks for pinning if you can.
Any unit that takes would be crippled by say a minus 2 or 3 modifier.

If they pin them, then good your whole army gets to shoot them next turn.

If they dnt, use the drones jet move to spread them out in a long line a few inches in front of the enemy.

Leaving them a few choices.

Gun them down.... The drones get a cover save from shooting though the friendly unit. So only that unit can shoot full effectiveness.

Assault them... as they lack the range to navigate round the drones. Drones die, and in turn assault unit gets pulse in the face next turn as they cant move into assault again.

Either way, we get to unload masses of firepower at our foes.

thoughts?

I like it. Slightly un-tau'ish (as although Tau Drones are expendable the Tau don't believe in expendable troops) BUT, I like it. particularly since I have a large surplus of drones so this could work well.

tried that, but the fact is that they shoot the drones with other units to clear the path for their assaulters to charge through. happened numerous times. and 12 pts per drone is a bit expensive, and they give up a kill paoint too easily in my opinion.

but hey, try the tactic out some more and post your findings here again. I'm looking forward to it.
