Ben Campbell (played by Jim Sturgess) is a typical student, other then the fact that he is insanely intelligent (though not specifically adressed, this is probably just with math). he wants to study at Harvard to become a doctor, but he lacks the money for it, which sums up to 300000 dollars. His maths professor, Micky Rosa (played by Kevin Spacey) offers him a way to make some easy money-- playing Black Jack in Las Vegas. More specifically, winning by counting cards, helped by the others people in this group of cart counters by the means of codes and hand gestures.
They didn't go too deep into how the system exactly works, but enough for you to understand how they operate. Thank God, because what this movie didn't need is another half hour for a lenghty discription of how they're actually counting card. The problem with this movie is that you should already know the basic line of how this plot goes (and the trailer doesn't help with keeping the plot a secret either)-- he wins a lot of money at first, but at some point gets in trouble during the whole process. The question is, how will he get himself out of the mess he created, if at all. The ending wasn't all that unpredictable to be honest, and not specifically satisfying either, but it gets the job done. It was an enjoyable movie overall (and it ad Kevin Spacey, one of my favorite actors in it d:), but I feel it went on a little too long and I wouldn't have minded if they'd have been able to shave about half an hour off of this movie.
