Title: Shana's Starting Point
Indemnited_Love - January 28, 2008 01:32 AM (GMT)
Disembarking from the naval ship was no easy task. First of all, a stowaway couldn't very well just waltz down the gangplank like she owned the place. So it was left to slide down one of the rope fenders on the sides, and swing onto the pier from there.
Shana had spent a miserable two days on the ship, hiding in the hold, seasick. It had seemed like every little wave was three feet high, and she'd spent half her time hanging out the porthole, even after her stomach was empty.
Now, as she walked along the pier, breathing in fresh, salt-tanged air that soothed her stomach tremendously, she vowed never to set foot on a ship again, if she could help it.
Dr.McNinja - February 2, 2008 11:16 PM (GMT)
Jon slowly walked the peir behind the stowaway, wondering if she really was as much of an idiot as she was making herself out to be.
"Have a good trip, ma'am?" He said to her, a smirk crossing his thin lips.
Indemnited_Love - February 6, 2008 03:10 PM (GMT)
Shana spun at the voice, her right foot in front, the left back a little more, her weight balanced between them. Her hand were in fists, at her sides for now, in case they were needed.
She eyed the man behind her, studying his face. No doubt he'd just disembarked as well.
She eased into a more casual position, folding her arms. "The trip went well enough, I suppose," she answered guardedly. "Suffice it to say that I got to my destination."
She frowned slightly. "Though why you'd want to know, I have no idea." She turned on her heel to leave.
Dr.McNinja - February 6, 2008 04:36 PM (GMT)
He chuckled a small bit. "well, you don't suppose no one knew you were on that ship, eh?" Jon took a step closer. "Like no one noticed when things went missing?"
Indemnited_Love - February 6, 2008 10:54 PM (GMT)
Shana paused. With a sigh, she turned back to face the man, giving him the most condescending look possible.
"I would have been disappointed had I gone completely unnoticed," she said, sarcastically. "To think that the vaunted military was stupid enough to let a single person slip through their fingers. The entire crew could be taken up on dereliction of duty charges."
She flipped straight, black hair back over her shoulder before folding her arms. "Why are you following me? Haven't you got some heroic thing to do, like helping old ladies cross the street?"
Dr.McNinja - February 9, 2008 07:54 PM (GMT)
"You're a pleasant one, aren't you?" He turned his back to her.
"And who says I'm following you anyways? You DID just jump off a free ride on MY ship, y'know. And to thinmk I was actually considering NOT having you arrested for this." He tunded back to her. "Oh well."
Indemnited_Love - February 10, 2008 03:38 AM (GMT)
"Yeah, sure, Hero," Shana snorted derisively. "I'm sure you just tag along behind stowaways on a regular basis, chatting them up while you contemplate calling the authorities."
She gave a grin, a humourless one that didn't quite reach her eyes. They, instead, focussed on the soldier with something akin to a challenge.
"However, if you wanted to try and call them down on me anyway, it'd make for an interesting time." She paused, tapping the index finger of her right hand on her bottom lip.
"Actually, I correct myself. It'd make for a waste of their time."
Dr.McNinja - February 10, 2008 04:20 AM (GMT)
"You wouldn't be mocking me, now would you?"
His hand instinctively rested itself upon the hilt of the large sword on his hip. "And who said anything about calling the police? I have the jurisdiction to arrest you myself."
Indemnited_Love - February 10, 2008 10:02 PM (GMT)
Shana smiled, looking down at the pier.
"Well then, you'll have to excuse my wrongful perception," she said. Her eyes glanced up at him from under her lashes. "I wasn't aware I was in the presence of someone with that much power."
Closing the gap between them with a few strides, she smiled coyly, her head tilted slightly to the left. "Although, I must compliment you on your perception." She leaned up and forward, so she was speaking directly into his ear.
"I most certainly am mocking you." She whirled, her black hair flaring out as she sprinted up the pier, into the city, the sound of her laughter on the wind.
Zombiedragon201 - February 13, 2008 05:58 AM (GMT)
A lesser sailor walked up to the lieutenant, obviously flustered about something. As he saw the girl run off, he raised an eyebrow, attempting to gain the officer's attention. Sir, it's important. We've found traces of a stowaway onboard the ship. What do you want us to do, sir?"
Dr.McNinja - February 16, 2008 03:10 AM (GMT)
Jon whirled around to face the man, a slow rage building behind his usual coolness. "FOLLOW HER, YOU-!" He yelled, jamming a finger after the girl.
As the sailor stood there, he yelled again over his shoulder, "And get my sword!" as he ran after the stowaway. "Just wait," he muttered under his breath, "You'll see just what you've gotten yourself into."
Indemnited_Love - February 16, 2008 10:32 PM (GMT)
Shana glanced over her shoulder as she ran, to see the sailor in hot pursuit. She laughed, facing forward again. The thrill of the chase. How . . . thrilling.
"Just wait," she muttered as she ran. "You'll see just what you've gotten yourself into."
Turning left, she headed down a narrow, deserted alleyway, headed for the sure-to-be-crowded marketplace, slowing down just enough to let the sailor close the gap a little.
She'd lose him in the crowds, then turn the tables and stalk him down. All according to her plan.
Dr.McNinja - February 17, 2008 01:44 AM (GMT)
The Leuteinant cursed as the girl he was trailing led him into a crowded marketplace. He stopped momentarily, as to scan the crowd for her. After a minute, he spied a stairway, leading to the rooftops. Surely he would be able to find her from a better vantage point?
He quickly scaled the stairs, coming to rest at the top. Moving swiftly through the crowd was a brown-haired head, most likely feminine, headed towards the other end of the street.
Jon ran along the top of the buildings nearby. She must've thought she had lost him, as she'd slowed down and begun to look at some of the stalls, probably trying to give the impression that she was just another shopper. She neared one of the stalls. Time to make a move. He leaped off the building, landing on a canopy to keep from hitting the ground. His body ripped through the cloth roof of the stall as he reached out to grab... a regular shopper.
He quickly got back to his feet, looking around for the stowaway as the stall clerk behind him ranted about his cover. He had lost her after all.
(Holy crap. That was dynamic.)
Indemnited_Love - February 17, 2008 02:09 AM (GMT)
Shana watched, smirking to herself as her pursuer looked around for her, being scolded by a shopkeeper. She pulled the rim of her floppy 'borrowed' hat lower, her black hair tucked inside it.
Slipping to the left, she circled around behind him, watching as he continued looking for her, the shopkeeper still scolding. She sneaked to within ten metres of him, listening to the endless rant coming from his new antagonist.
"-owe me a new cover, after you busted this one. What they're feeding you in the navy, I'll never know. Weigh more than a whale, some of you folks do -"
Zombiedragon201 - February 18, 2008 12:21 AM (GMT)
Shana felt her arm grabbed by a rather chubby woman who had an angry, and rather balding head.
"Give me back my hat, you thief!" she yelled at the top of her lungs.
Dr.McNinja - February 18, 2008 05:57 AM (GMT)
Still ignoring the clerk, Jon suddenly heard a lady behind him yelling about a theft. He whirled around just in time to see the woman snatch backk a (quite ugly) brown hat from, guess who?
"Gotcha." He started towards the girl, with the shopkeeper following every step-"Hey! Where do you think you are going?! Come back here and PAY ME FOR DIS!"
Indemnited_Love - February 21, 2008 09:06 PM (GMT)
((Zombie just godmodded me. I dun like it. *voicing opinion as a member*))
Shana turned toward the sounds of the shopkeeper's shouts, to find the soldier heading straight for her.
"Blast it," she muttered, taking off again.
Weaving her way through the maze of people, she kept looking behind her every so often. Why had she felt the need to follow him?She could have just lost him and been done with it. No, she'd had to go be cocky and get caught.
Ducking down a side alley, she leaned against the wall, deep in the shadows, trying to catch her breath.
Dr.McNinja - February 22, 2008 05:08 AM (GMT)
((He does that. It has a tendency to suck. I kinda wanted to see what you'd do.))
Jon watched aas the girls head once again slowly bobbed away from him, off through the crowd, who was quickly converging on him.
HE threw a small tantrum, much curing and stomping was involved. He then straightened himself up, a cool demeanor coming over him again. "The city will be cordoned off. Right now. No one comes or goes without my permission."
The sailor came up behind him slowly, the Lt.'s laege sword in hand. "Uh, sir? I'm afraid you don't have that authority..."
Jon turned on him, taking the sword swiftly. "I do until someone tells me otherwise."
Indemnited_Love - February 23, 2008 06:30 PM (GMT)
Shana, having caught her second wind, stole along the alleyway, still glancing around to check she was not followed. No use taking chances now; that soldier obviously wanted her for one reason or another, and was intent on finding her.
Reaching the end of the alley, she slipped into the main flow of foot traffic, heading south. She'd stay with the crowds for a while, leading any potential trackers a merry dance around the city. Then, tonight, she'd slip out and head cross-country, away from this place.
Her breath caught in her throat as she saw the cordon of soldiers stretched across the street ahead. Oh, nice move, mister.
Turning, she started back up the street, the way she'd come, only meet with another group of watchmen, waiting. Gritting her teeth, she ducked back into her alley. There were bound to be cordons of soldiers everywhere . . . best take the alternate route.
Grasping a drainpipe, she began climbing up to the roofs above. Clearing the edge, she settled onto the rim, looking down at the street below. A narrow escape, that was.
Dr.McNinja - February 24, 2008 04:34 AM (GMT)
"Huh!" Jon laughed. "I come up here again to see if I could get some kind of glimpse of that banshee I was tracking, and look who I find." He drew the sword, pointing it at her.
"I suppose you came up here to get away from the mobs I sent out, eh? Well, it was a pretty good idea, but it's easier to take the stairs."
Indemnited_Love - February 24, 2008 04:41 PM (GMT)
Shana didn't turn to face him. He was likely waiting for her to make one false move, just so he could get rid of her. It was better to stay put.
"I never do things the easy way," she said, looking off across the city. "Don't want to appear that I'm getting soft or anything. I have a reputation to keep up.
"But you're right. I had to avoid your guards somehow, and this seemed the most pertinent solution. But a banshee screams, and warns of danger."
She turned her head, grinning sarcastically back at the soldier. "I don't warn of danger. I cause it."
Dr.McNinja - February 24, 2008 06:37 PM (GMT)
"Oh, nice answer. I appreciate wit." He scratched his head. "Unfortunately enough, I'm still going to have to arrest you."
Zombiedragon201 - February 24, 2008 08:41 PM (GMT)
((Well, I guess my godmodding was a little out of place. I'll back it off a little))
Indemnited_Love - February 24, 2008 11:16 PM (GMT)
((Thanks Zombie! I'm just overprotective of characters is all, lol))
"Nice to know my sense of humour doesn't go unnoticed," Shana said, smiling humourlessly. She got to her feet, dusting herself off before turning to face the soldier.
"I suppose, if you're going to arrest me, you should at least know who you're clapping in irons. I'm Shana."
She held out her wrists. "Okay. Let's get this over with so I can see just how fast I can escape from prison," she said, smiling sweetly up at her captor.
Dr.McNinja - February 25, 2008 06:02 AM (GMT)
"Hmm. I was hoping for at least a little bit of a fight. I got my sword and everything." He pulled an iron wrist cuff out and locked her arms inside it. "I'm Lt. Cross. You may call me Lt. Cross."
Indemnited_Love - February 26, 2008 02:18 AM (GMT)
"Lt. Cross . . . ." Shana mused. "I like it. It fits your personality: you seem to be a bit of a grouch."
Walking ahead of him confidently, she called back over her shoulder. "All right, Lt. Grouch. Let's get a move on, shall we? I'm young, I don't have the rest of my life to spend hanging around waiting for you to cart me off to jail, here. And for such an innocent crime as stowing away."
She paused, seeming thoughtful. "Oh, but there's that whole thing about resisting arrest, isn't there. My mistake. Yeah, that was rather bad of me, wasn't it? I can see how it put you in a bad mood."
Pausing halfway along the roof, she looked back at the soldier. "Oy. You coming, Lt. Grouch?"
Dr.McNinja - February 26, 2008 04:08 AM (GMT)
He almost made a very un-professional remark to the girl, but bit his tongue. "Let's get going." He stowed his sword, following the gil closely behind. "Oh, I almost forgot." He stated suddenly, "I'm making you pay for that rafter I fell though too..."
Indemnited_Love - February 26, 2008 02:12 PM (GMT)
Shana laughed. "You must have a pretty heavy weight to fall through a rafter. From where I was it looked more like an awning, and I have to say, it was pretty funny."
Climbing down from the roof with both hands cuffed in front of her was awkward, but she managed it without falling to her death. "Looking around, she looked back up at Lt. Cross.
"Okay, Grouch, which way? I'm new here, so that makes you the resident expert. Lead the way."
Dr.McNinja - February 27, 2008 04:28 AM (GMT)
"Awning, Rafter, it's all the same in splinters on the ground."
After this small bit of prophetic wisdom, he looked around at the surrounding area.
"Son of a bitch. I was so busy chasing you I didn't pay attention to where I was going."
Indemnited_Love - February 28, 2008 02:43 AM (GMT)
Shana grinned. "Watch your language, there's a lady present."
Leaning back against the wall, she closed her eyes, still smirking. "Terrible thing for a sailor of your obvious experience to get lost. Then again, you are on land, and not on the open seas, so I suppose you can be forgiven.
"We could always just wait for nightfall, then you could see the stars." Her eyes flashed open as she pushed off the wall. Rebounding with her left foot off the opposite wall, she spun in midair, slamming her doubled-up fists into the side of Lt. Cross's head. With the added weight of the manacles, it would be enough to knock him out.
Zombiedragon201 - February 28, 2008 01:35 PM (GMT)
(Time for godmodding)
The sun was already starting to fall from the sky outside, and snow could be seen starting to fall lightly on the.
Dr.McNinja - February 29, 2008 02:59 AM (GMT)
"Lady, huh? I'm not so sure." In a split second the girl had bounded up, smacking him in the side of his head with the iron cuffs. He managed to drop enough to avoid the majority of the blow, but still was knocked to the ground. "SON of a BITCH!" He knew she wasn't going to be as compliant as she made out to be...
Indemnited_Love - February 29, 2008 03:21 AM (GMT)
The minute Lt. Cross was down, Shana dove on top of him. Bracing a knee on either side of his torso, she pinned his arms to his sides. Slamming her fists into the centre of his chest, she both winded him and knocked him back.
Leaning forward, she pressed her cuffs to his throat. "One move on my part, that's all it takes," she hissed, dark hair swinging forward over her shoulder. "I could crush your windpipe right now, and you'd be nothing more to me than a pesky memory."
Her lips curled back from her teeth, eyes narrowing. "Here's the deal. I let you live, you escort me to the other side of Tekaan, and release me, unhindered, to go where I will."
Leaning down to within an inch of his nose, she smiled - it didn't reach her eyes, which were locked on his. "Otherwise, it's lights out."
Dr.McNinja - February 29, 2008 05:42 AM (GMT)
A vicious smirk crossed the soldier's lips. "I believe you forget who your taking to." He flipped one leg up and kicked her in the back, then used the momentum to flip her off his back. Grabbing a knife from his boot, he stepped into her while she was on the ground, quite effectively turning the tables. "You aren't in much of a position to be making demands. Kazan trains us better than to handle the likes of you."
Indemnited_Love - February 29, 2008 09:46 PM (GMT)
"Oh, I'm so injured," Shana retorted, glaring up at him. "Idiot, you've got cobwebs for a brain if you think that your precious training will prepare you for any situation. If my hands were free, you would think twice before tangling with me. You'd leave with your family's hope of grandchildren gone, or worse."
She watched the knifetip, wondering briefly what the chances were of getting to her dirk before Grouch incapacitated her. Slim.
"But no," she continued, trying to move out from under his foot. "You just have to be the stereotypical, pig-headed male, and let one person take the blame for something as petty as stowing away. And so much easier for you if that person is of the opposite, and apparently weaker, gender."
Blowing a strand of hair out of her eyes, she glared up at him. "Well, let me tell you this: if I ever get even half a chance, I'm going to make you regret that you didn't just let it go. Consider that both a threat and a promise."
Dr.McNinja - March 1, 2008 01:08 AM (GMT)
"Oh? And by that I suppose that you're trying to insinuate that someone else made you stow away on out ship?"
He backed up, taking the weight off of her and stowing the knife.
Indemnited_Love - March 1, 2008 01:59 AM (GMT)
"Hardly," Shana answered, not moving from her spot. This idiot wanted her in jail? Fine. He could carry her there.
"Do I look like some immature child to you, that you think I'd just say 'the devil made me do it' if I got into trouble? Pound this into your thick head, Cross: I am not some average idiot just making trouble. And if you don't see how you could use someone like me to your advantage, then it's your loss."
Dr.McNinja - March 2, 2008 02:49 AM (GMT)
Cross stared at the girl. "My advantage?... Now why would I trust you? Am I some idiot to you? It's not like I'm just going to say 'alright, Let's be allies', so you can stab me in the back first chance you get? What a moron." He hoisted her to her feet and pushed her forward.
Indemnited_Love - March 2, 2008 04:26 AM (GMT)
Shana caught her balance just as he shoved her forward. "All right, scum. Just remember that when I'm gone and you're left holding the chain."
As they re-entered the open street, she began watching for opportunities to escape. One little distraction of Cross's focus, that's all it'd take . . . . Come on, distraction, where are you?
((Would it be likely for Tekaan to have a slave market?))
Zombiedragon201 - March 2, 2008 08:38 PM (GMT)
(actually, no. Tekaan is relatively clean. But I've been wanting to god-mod for a little while, and this fits into a crucial part of the story, so here I come.)
As they walked, a distant whistling could be heard. At the next moment, the ground shook with a massive explosion nearby. Through the light snow, black, threatening ships could be seen sailing into the harbor. More explosions followed, and a soldier ran up to the lieutenant.
"Sir, we're under attack. It's Rosham's fleet, sir. Their attacking full scale. And with the dragon knights gone, we can't defend against their full might. What do we do, sir?"
