If so any time limit?

Yes, but only if your club has completely disappeared off the face of the earth.

This has arisen as an issue here in New York, where there is talk of a second MLS team. I've seen a few Red Bulls fans say that they would be willing to ditch RBNY for a Mets-affiliated team located in Queens. You can imagine the reaction they get. Personally, once I've chosen my team/club I stick with 'em, through thick and thin.

When the Earthquakes were stolen away to Houston I could not bring myself to support another team. If you are switching teams then you were not a true fan to begin with.

I hate bandwagon fans, they just steal all of the good seats at the games, and disappear as soon as you have a losing streak.

Rachel is looking for a team and San Jose will be looking for fans, problem solved.

I support several teams but needless to say United is at the top of the heap.

IMHO certain situations exist where I believe it is exceptable.

Philidelphia. Chances are you eith support NYRB or better yet United. But if Filthadelphia got thier own team I would say switch away and support your local.
If I was born and bred there that is exactly what I would do. And as long as Philly had a team, that is where my allegiances would lie.

And if you team happens to disappear - pick another that captures you imagination.

Could I switch to another club? Not a chance. Is it okay for others to switch clubs? Freedom of choice is theirs. Pick a team or it will pick you and stick with it, that's my opinion.

well, my initial thoughts were no, you cannot. however if your team disappears then i can understand you looking for a new team but unlike love for a first love you will never really forget your team as i am sure twigs will agree with.

that being said i think there may be a time when it is ok, if you leave your team when they are on the top. my older and only brother, i suspect was a liverpool fan when he was younger but in the 70's when liverpool where dominating switched to manure who were not. i kinda have to respect that as he never came back but i think he just was chosen by united whereas he wanted to be a liverpool fan.

yeah it was fun growing up @ home but even when we would fight about whose teams were better we could always turn on my dad who is a spurs supporter wink.gif.

I think it depends on how long you have supported a team. I am one of the people that came to the game relatively late and initially chose a team based on its current success, but once I watch the league for a while I decided to support a team that refected my personality.

Fair enough Randy and a good way to pick your team.

Agreed... That's what I was thinking but couldn't put it into words. That's how I feel about Dallas. (Now I know I live here but the truth rings the same...) Dallas fits me like a glove and I don't see myself supporting another team even if/when I do leave Dallas.

When the Chicago Mustangs folded and Chicago Spurs left town, I had no problem picking up with the Chicago Sting when they started up. When the Sting folded and MLS started up, I missed the Sting (to this day) but now I enjoy the Fire and support them against all comers ... except the real Chivas.

Chivas were my first futbol love and continue to be (40+ years). I know some people say you can't divide your loyalties. When push comes to shove I'll back Chivas against anybody.

Is the multiple club support just as bad as switching teams?
I don't think so but some may.

I don't think dividing loyalites is bad... I'm a Man U supporter and have been since I began supporting football as a whole when I was a young child. (Way waaayyyy longer than I've been a Dallas supporter.) I know the team inside and out. But I can't see Man U every week. I can't "support" them as I can Dallas. (i.e going to matches, apperances, etc..)

JT -- you've been supporting your local clubs as long as they've had them, but you've remained loyal to Chivas. There's nothing wrong with that. The only problem with that is if your beloved Chivas played Chicago, just as if my Man U played Dallas. I'd pull the old stand by and wish for a 2-2.

Multiple club support is a different debate altogether. IMHO, you support one club and are a fan of another. I don't know if you can support two clubs, albeit on different leagues, mainly because it would be physically and mentally draining. A supporter: goes to club matches (e.g., purchases tickets through the club), purchases merchandise through the club store, follows their club year-in-and-out, etc. A fan -- watches their club on telly, purchases club merchandise wherever available... Growing up with a club isn't the norm anymore, IMHO, cos I know a bloke who's been Chelsea since birth but doesn't know much about the Chelsea from the past 10 years after moving to America. And yes, I know more footy than him wink.gif

I don't think my support of Fiorentina in any way means that I can't support the Chicago Fire. I can't, however, support Roma (sorry Diana).

Somehow, I do not see how I could support another competeing Serie A team unless Fiorentina went away completely and irrevocably. That almost happened a few years ago BTW.

I could no more support Inter or Juve or Dallas or NYRB than I could jam a sharp stick in my eye on purpose.
