Title: Spain vs Italy
Description: Italy playing for Penalties!
GerrardsRubbish - June 22, 2008 07:19 PM (GMT)
I missed the 1st 10 minutes, but looks like Italy is already playing for penalty
kicks with 80 minutes of regular time remaining. I predict 1-1 and Italy wins
on Penalties and people with a remedial knowledge of football declaring how
great Italy are and how tough they are to break down! :D  :P
oops I forgot to put "Spoiler" in the title and I can't edit the thread.
I'm as Rubbish as Gerrard and Italy put together!
GerrardsRubbish - June 22, 2008 07:28 PM (GMT)
OMG!
Clear foul on a Spanish player in the box or just outside and nothing.
Italy must have gotten their wallets out before the game. They made enough
money underwear modeling to buy this one off! :D
ridiculous refereeing!
gary b - June 22, 2008 08:07 PM (GMT)
I think the shouts for a penalty would have been a bit harsh. And it may be remedial but Itlay ARE hard to break down defensively, have been for years and years. Some might call it boring, I think they rely on their strengths, defensive organization. You sure you're not writting material for Andy Gray? You sound like a puppet for him right now. ;)
GerrardsRubbish - June 22, 2008 08:10 PM (GMT)
If you read my posts from the 2006 World Cup they are the same.
Italy are the Liverpool/Bolton of World Football. they bore you to death
and win on the counter or on penalties or from war of attrition.
I honestly think they are mind numbing. I don't think Andy Gray would
go that far. I do think that foul at the end of the 1st half was probably a free
kick on the edge of the box not a penalty. Gray has insinuated several times
that the Ref is favouring Italy in this match. Italy do have a history of
paying refs off now don't tho!
GerrardsRubbish - June 22, 2008 08:21 PM (GMT)
Greece called and said Italy are boring them to death! :P

Come on now. They are going forward as much as Spain is.
Question. WHere is Stevies Me's medal in your picture? All I see is the ribbon.
GerrardsRubbish - June 22, 2008 08:26 PM (GMT)
That's when they lost. that's the loser's medal he turned around backwards.
I'll be suprised if one Italian player goes past the halfway line in either
extra-time period!
I would like to quote myself from 2006 after Italy played for penalties
in the world cup final for the last 75 minutes (2nd half + 2 extra time periods)
"Why was Italy playing a 7-2-1 formation in the World Cup Final? They only had 2 shots on goal the whole match and those were from set pieces. Italy only had 1 shot in the last 75 minutes and that shot was off target from a set piece. I'm for changing the rules (at least in the final) to play until someone scores so negative boring teams like Italy can't play for penalties for the entire second half and overtime. Even when they were a man up, they had 10 players behind the ball. Italy's the new Germany. The Azzurri are pathetic. They deserve less respect than Greece winning the Euro. "
- The Great GR from 2006!

JUSTICE! JUSTICE! JUSTICE! JUSTICE! JUSTICE!
ESPANYA! ESPANYA! ESPANYA! ESPANYA!
Now go home and pose in your underwear and grease your hair and ponce around Italy.
thanks for not putting anyone else in a coma! good night now!

Fair play to Spain, probably the mreo deserving side. Note to Italian penalty takers, it's too much to ask your keeper to save more than one. Try making more than 3 of 5, a bit of a disgrace really. Those were not great saves by Casillas.
Twiggster - June 22, 2008 09:35 PM (GMT)
Poor Diana!
To see Italy play for the penalty shoot out from 75 mins of normal time onwards and then BLOW IT, almost made up for Hollands no show last night!
EVIVA ESPANA! (tho on the play - Russia will thrash them in the semis).
And guys - WHY didn't you come in the chatroom for the game?

The first one (De Rossi) was a good save. The second one was a poor attempt by Di Natale.

Good one Spain for making it into the semi's. About bloody time.
adp64 - June 22, 2008 10:41 PM (GMT)
Well done to Spain and good luck against Russia.
GerrardsRubbish is a twat and I've had enough of the anti-Italian bull on this board.

It's all a wind up. Don't trip on it.
GerrardsRubbish - June 23, 2008 12:03 AM (GMT)
Yes Yes GaryB is right, so much of Football IS about the wind-up.
BUT
I really do think Gerrard is Rubbish and that Italy plays for penalties in every knockout
stage game and they are a glorified hybrid of Greece and England. Barf!
adp64, the truth must hurt that Italy are cheating, boring, diving twats. Andy Gray seemed
to agree with me. every freaking foul is a goddamn Opera without the fat chicks in Corsets.
Italy can't attack, they play for penalties from the outset, and make every foul or nothing into Puccini. Must suck to be a fan of that  :D :P
gary b - June 23, 2008 12:34 AM (GMT)
Good god. Every player on BOTH sides was diving around like there was a Navy SEAL sniper team in the stands taking target practice. Te Italians don't play for penalties they play defensive football. They play for 1-0 maybe not to the likes of everyone but it's fine. Their "boring" style got them the same result as the "beautiful" play of Holland...nothing.

I know it won't happen but I'm now pulling for Turkey. Because as Twiggs would say it's a team not actually in Europe. So just to cause problems I want them to win.
Phillyspur - June 23, 2008 03:13 AM (GMT)
I am sure that if GR's team played that way and won things, he would have absolutely no problem with it.
Many will feel a sense of 'justice' because the team that tried to win in the end did. But to harp on about Italy's gamesmanship when everyone does it is nonsense.
Today was the first game this tournament that Italy have played defensive, and it wasn't pretty, but it could have worked.
elisa - June 23, 2008 04:20 AM (GMT)
Italy obviously felt, the best way to beat Espaņa was playing Catenaccio. Unfortunately it didn't work. Spain tried to attack, push forward, make this a game, and find space but were still nervous trying to pull that 88 year/pound monkey off their back. Because of the catenaccio game, Capdevila and Ramos were not allowed to go forward.
Thank you San Iker for finally stopping two penalties for once! Thank you Villa, Santi, Senna, and Cesc for maintaining a calm demeanor and clinching the pens. As you well know Spain normally sucks at executing pens, so this is a big one! I'm on cloud nine right now. :)
Vamanos! Here's to beautiful football. Russia one more time. Let's beat Roman's boys again! ;)
MidfieldGeneral - June 23, 2008 12:14 PM (GMT)
I am hard pressed to remember a match that was officiated worse than this one. The German truely bottled this one! Can't say we will be seeing this guy for some time in any major tournaments.
All in all, the better team prevailed today. Spainerpool kept up the attack, as Italy had all 10 behind the center line. Not a knock on Italy at all. That is their game, and they have been very successfull in recent times with it. They may have missed Pirlo a bit, but not sure he would have been enough to tip the scales.
Loved Andy Gray's comment about Luca Toni going down so soft. He was disgracefull at times, and Ambrosini was kicking the crap out of anything wearing red on the pitch.
Probably 2-0 Spain if the Gerrie ref had any bottle whatsoever!
GerrardsRubbish - June 23, 2008 04:40 PM (GMT)
Ha Ha Ha
Just heard Diana blame Dildo-doni on the show for Italy's defensive "style" and claimed
they didn't play like that last World Cup. Um actually they did, they played exactly like that
except they won on penalties that time. Again they had 2 shots and 1 on goal in the last 75 minutes against France in the world cup final. Not exactly pouring forward in attack, or even counter attack. More like a bunch of girly men cowering in their own half. :D
