i'm intending to buy a new pc off'f dell for ~800 quid- here's the important stuff:

Base:
AMD® Live Technology - Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
Monitor:
Dell™ 22" Black Wide Flat Panel (E228WFP) - UK/Irish
Memory:
4096MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [4x1024] 109316 [370-12901] 3
Hard Drive:
640GB (2x320GB) 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive - Dual HDD Config 105720 [400-13467] 8
Video Card:
256MB ATI® Radeon™ HD 2600 XT graphics card 126091 [490-10739] 6

also, if i want to put an internal hdd in an external enclosure, is it a 3.5" enclosure i'm after? ohmy.gif

It depends on the HD - most are now 3.5", but you can still get 5.25" versions, though these are quite rare. You are better off buying a dedicated external HD tbh.

You would be much, much better off building a computer yourself - I can price a better one for you, if you want. smile.gif

Yeah - I said they were quite rare i.e. really old school.

Ok, whats your budget?

EDIT: Oh, £800... XD

Here is something better than what you chose before:

Intel C2D E6750 - £114.05
Gigabyte P35 Mobo - £70.97
4GB OCZ PC2-6400 RAM - £78.47 (although you'll never need this much - what OS are you going to use?)
2x320GB WD Caviar 7200 Hard Drives - £98.36
Antec 900 Gaming Case - £67.78 (this is a good case, but you could save some money here if you wanted to)
Corsair 520HX PSU - £56.58
Asustek 8800GT 512MB - £176.23
Fujitsu Siemens 22" Widescreen Monitor - £177.01

Total price = £839.45

If you want to save some money, I would suggest only getting 2GB of RAM, as you can only use 4GB if you are going to be using a 4GB Operating System. Also, you could get a cheaper case - its really up to you.

Anywho, this is a lot better than the one you were going to get from Dell. All prices are inc. VAT and are from dabs.com. smile.gif

probably would use vista since i cba to get cracked versions of all the stupid only-for-vista games coming out. plus i hear you need it for dx10 or the later ones, or something.
i would buy the bits and make it myself, but i'm not too sure about things like bios and installing windows and stuff so with a premade thing i'd just plug it in and go....

I see your point, but building the thing is half the fun. biggrin.gif

Check out www.mysuperpc.com for a comprehensive guide to building your own computer - check the forums to see someone you may recognise... XD

It isn't difficult to put the put the Vista CD into your cd-rom drive (the big fat one with a tray that pops out when you press the Eject button) and considering they have a whole vgui for the installation it shouldn't be too difficult for you.

gaming cases are teh lame. and could save a bit of money buying a generic PSU rather than a corsair. would probably stay with XP so don't need 4gb but nice to have it incase i upgrade.

is the p35 any good on overclocking options?
