It has been 10 years since the last Festival of Magic. Most everyone has forgotten about the event that takes place during the begining of spring about 2 months before the Tournament of Champions. The city begins to stir in rememberance of this Festival as the great University Arcanum begins its preperations for the great festival.

Begining this week before the Festival begins, decorations are being set up. The Large Taverns send word to university to rent an Illusion screen so that those not at the colliseum can watch the magic demonstrations and the magic tournament that is also held.

Members of the university take part in a contest of magic items that are judged by the members of the high level faculty. The prizes for this contest are listed with the rules.

There is also a contest which any arcane spell caster can join in. This is a Mage Duel tournement where contestents try to destroy a crystal that stands behind their opponent. The prizes and rules are listed seperatly.

There are dances that happen every night of the festival as well as briliant displays of illusion and spellcraft (think fireworks).

Numerous Booths and stalls pop up all over the city to sell many different crafts and such. Fireball roasted boar is a favorite of all those who have been to the festival before.

On the final day of the festival, after the winners of the 2 main contests are announced there is a final battle that takes place. Between the Headmaster of the University and Xeron Shardlis, the master of time magics, they have a 1 hour time limit. There is an enormus betting pool that takes place on who will win this duel, this pot is so large that it is held in its own vault at the University Arcanum. It holds all of the bets since the first duel between Xeron and the Headmaster began this tradition. There has been no winner between them in the 50+ festivals that have taken place. No, you cannot bet a draw. Nice try.

After all of the festivities, the night of the final day, the dragon high council and the dragon master himself put on a magic show along with the top members of the university.

Shaloranna moves through the booths, pausing to look at the entries for the magic item competition. She contemplates her own entry, an orb that will allow normal sight, with natural eye movement provided included. She smiles to herself, . o O (To think that an entry from an instructor from the university itself is only barely in the advanced category, rather than expert.) She chuckles softly and moves on.

The Magic tournament has begun. (sorry for the delay)

Mages from all over competeting for the prizes that are offered. So Far the best battles to watch have been the novice class. These young mages throw everything they have into the fight. It has been a great spectical for all to watch.

The Advanced battles have been rather... boring for the spectators. The spell work is splended but they are not flashy spells, so not much for the patrons to see.

The Expert battles have been wonderful to behold but they are over rather quickly, most of the high powered mages able to work around the defenses of their opponents quickly. The spell work is masterful and most have ended in draws. The fastest match was between a spell dancer by the name of Rianna and a wizard by the name of Beltanar. Rianna wore a flowing dancers outfit and was able to spelldance one spell against the distracted Master Beltanar, conjuring a great hand that smashed Beltanar's crystal. The whole match lasted 10 seconds.

As the first day draws to a close, the boards for the winners of the day are posted as the second round is prepared for the following morning.

As the day turns to night, the streets come alive with dancing and revilry. There are friendly competions of drinking and some of dancing. The whole city is alight with joy and frivoloty.

Sprinting down the crowded street where the gateways reside, the great dire wolfie Snuggles has black robes in his mouth. He turns and dashes into a portal.

A large distance behind the great wolf a skeleton runs, in his hand is a sign that says, "STOP THAT WOLF!"

A while later, the ancient skeletal monk comes dashing out of the portal. He runs down to the colliseum to the rehearsal he is supposed to attend.

The Second day of the festival is known as the day of Horrors and everyone is encouraged to dress up in a scary costume for the day.

As the second day draws to a close, the battles within the magic tournament end with a flourish. The spell dancer Rianna has performed the best in the expert competition. She has taken to heart that the tournament is not just for the mages, but for those who are watching. Rianna had drawn out the battles near to the 15 minute time limit. She casts flashy defensive spells to protect her crystal all the while dancing an intricate spell. When the spell is complete, she shatters her opponents crystal by making it rise up and explode from the inside, mimicing the fireworks that are held at night.

Again, the advanced category is rather boring while the young mages of the beginner class still put on impressive shows. The spellwork between all of the categories is fantastic if not all of the bouts are true specticals.

That evening, a show is held in the colliseum for all to see. The show is the Necromancers Horror.
The Necromancers from the university work magic to make dancers appear undead, to show the power that comes from the negative material plane, and also to show that Necromancy can be used to defeat the undead. This 2 hour show also tells a story of the first 2 dwarven necromancers, they are known only as Doom and Dread and they follow the god of death. The god of death from this world was not evil, infact it was said that he had a heart of gold and only presided over the passing of souls to their resting place. Under his guidance the 2 dwarves helped rid a world of a horrible scourge of undead using Necromancy. The Highlight of the show is when a dracolich erupts from the ground at the end of the tale.

The parts of the show are played by dancers from the Eternal Wings and there is a fierce compitition among the dwarven mages to play the roles of Doom and Dread. The only role that is the same from festival to festival is the role of Death, he is always played by the Ancient Skeletal Monk.

As the evening draws into night, the city is once again held in the arms of revilry as dances and drinking competitions at the various taverns begin.

(My computer died so I haven't been able to update as often as I would like to.)

The Third day of the festival showcases the wonders that magic can have when used to prepare food. Odd as it may sound, the university has a large number of culinary mages within its walls.

As the third day of the festival closes Rianna the Spell Dancer has been knocked out of the compitition by Lertanna the elvin song wizardress, the apprentice to Kaylissa. The battle lasted 15 minutes but as Rianna cast her shatter spell, Lertanna cast volley, bouncing Rianna's spell right back at her own crystal.

The participants in the Advanced class seem to have picked up the idea of showmanship but they are not as fun to watch as the Beginner. Still, the spell craft has been good but not overly entertaining to watch.

The Beginner class has gained in momentum, the young mages still throwing everything they know at each other. Luckly for the audience of these matches the magic barriers that protect them from errant spells is still in place.

The great dire wolf Snuggles went on a rampage through out the festival, stealing food and licking those who happen to be nearby causing a large ruckas. He was finally caught by the dragon master himself who turned Snuggles into a 10 pound puppy much to Snuggles enjoyment. Kyliegh, Snuggles' caretaker, was not with the dire wolf, she was working with the dancers that are preparing for the finale and Suggles was in the care of Kyleigh's husband Joseph when the dire wolf escaped.

The final event in the colliseum is a demonstration of the wonders of food. As the chefs of the university cook infront of the audiance, a history of the magic of cooking is given by the headmaster of the university. When the 2 hour show is finished, the audiance will have been able to enjoy a 5 course meal with a sinful dessert.

Again, as night desends upon Talmyer, dances and drinking begin again, with kegs of magical ale running freely.

The forth day of the festival is the Divination Day. Fortune tellers and soothsayers are everywhere on this day, giving out fortunes and fortelling the future. Most of this is for entertaining only, most of the practitioning divinators will not try to predict too far into the future, they mostly speak of the day or the week. Others will divine the history of items that are brought before them.

In the magic tournament, the beginner class was nearly cut short as one of the contestants, Kurthan, tried casting a spell that was too far above his ability. Master Xeron managed to contain the spells effects before it went beyond the barriers. The 2 mages in the bout are still unconsious at the moment. It has not been discovered how the young elvin mage managed to learn the spell since he is still unconsious. Since Kurthan was trying to use his own power to cast the spell, he has not been disqualified and technicaly won the match.

The Advanced class had an interesting twist that made for a brilliant spectial. One of the mages, Tobias Heloran, managed to get a magical ring past the guards at the beginning of the day. The ring detonated nearly killing Tobias during a match. The ring was a ring of spell storing and it had been filled to the brim with spells. The spectial of all the spells going off at once was quite a sight to behold. The mage with the ring has been disqualified for using an item in the match.

The Experts had a fun day, since each and every match ended in a draw. All matches lasted 15 minutes and were wonderful to watch. The headmaster is wondering how he will count this turn of events in the overall tournament.

The final show of the night is a history of Talmyer. Shown with divination magics and enlarged illusions, the history of the city is put on for all to see. From its creation Hundreds of thousands of years ago to the very day of the festival, all of the important events are shown. This show, as with all of the others, lasts about 2 hours. This is the only show during the festival in which there are no dancers.

As every soothsayer and fortune teller fortold, the night is filled with dancing, drinking, and song.

The Fifth day of the Festival is all about the elemental magics. Fire, earth, air, and water spells are displayed throughout the day. Elementals from the 4 planes were invited to take part in the festival and a good number of them did.

The magic tournament did well this day. The Beginner class still having the brilliant displays of spells, with volley after volley of the lower circle spells. A lot of the beginners modified their castings with an elemental theme. The young elvin mage Kurthan has regained conciousness and revieled that he learned the spell from watching the Headmaster cast it. Kurthan has bowed out of the tournament due to his injuries keeping him from participating in any more bouts.

The Advanced Class was rather boring for the most part. No flash this day. Seems that the mages seek the prize more than the show. Though, during one battle, the great Dire Wolf Snuggles Charged into the arena and attacked one of the contestants. Merthlic Ravenwing was the mage attacked. It seems that the mage had threatened Lady Kyleigh and then teleported away. He was being tracked by the great dire wolf. It took the combined might of 4 dragons to pull Snuggles off of Merthlic since the wolf can reflect any spell cast at him. An investigation is pending on the threats that were made.

The Expert class decided to throw a twist in the mix. Each of the participants brought 2 apprentices and conjured Elemental golems to fight for them. This was okayed by the headmaster of the University and Master Xeron as well as the Dragon council. It was a spectical that will live on in festivals to come.

As the evening sets in, the great elemental mages along with dancers from eternal wings show the elemental powers in all their glory. The 2 hour show culminates with the 4 grand elementals rising up and demonstraiting their power.

The night once again is filled with food, dancing, and drink.

The Great Duel between Xeron Shardlis and the HeadMaster of the University was a crowd pleaser. The battle lasted 30 minutes with both of them throwing 2 to 4 spells at the same time. In the last few moment of the battle, Xeron was throwing spells as fast as he could as was the HeadMaster. Xeron was moving in an intricate pattern while the headmaster was casting silent spells while chanting another spell. As they both finished the ritual spells, the energy that they both conjured met in the middle of the arena. They concentrated on the spells they had cast, channeling more energy into them. Infront of the spectators, the shields that had been erected to prevent stray spells from hitting the audiance flashed briefly as Dragonfire reinforced them. As the 2 grand mages continued to pour magic into the spells that could be seen in the middle of the arena, both crystals began to shake. The spells fused together and drew both crystals to the center of the ring, fusing them together, creating a gigantic crystal. The energy released slammed into the shields but did not go through. The Headmaster and Xeron were flung across the arena opposite from each other. When they got up and walked up to the giant crystal the time was up, the match was a draw again. The 2 Mages spoke briefly and then called to Dragonfire to lower the shields, which he did. Both of the grand mages drew daggers, thew them up in the air, siezed them with magic, and brought them down into the crystal, shattering it into tiny shards. The shards then zoomed out to the spectators and hovered there for the people to take. Upon each shard was a picture carved of Xeron and the Headmaster standing next to the crystal as it was whole. A little souviner for all who witnessed the battle. The pot grew even large this year.

The final show was the greatest show that the festival has seen to this day.
The Coliseum had been shifted and opened up to be a cresent, looking out into the great astral plane, viewing where the other planes touched. At the begining of the show, Mistress Kaylissa and her apprentices began to sing, acommpanied by a chorus of singers from the various temples as well as the bard college that resides in Talmyer. In the vast distance, the DragonMaster in his great dragon form flew into view. He was barely recognizable in the distance, his great form flying towards Talymer. Some of the faculty of the University came in and performed a choreographed dance with dancers from Eternal Wings, weaving spells and illusions into the dance, scenes and setting changing from moment to moment. The dancers then vanished as the setting became a mountain. The music and singing went low and soft. Up on top of the mountain Master Xeron appeared. Dressed in black tunic, black trousers, and a purple vest adorned with silvery runes, he carried 2 staves with him. He started chanting, the singers joining him, as began to spin the staves. He threw them out away from him and began calling upon the very essence of Time itself. The staves began to pulse and become a ball of light. They grew until they nearly filled the arena, then all who looked into the light, relived their most joyus moment, then the light was gone and the arena was filled with small keep and the dance began again. Above, the Dragon High Council has taken to flight, casting spells and weaving their breaths in flight, and the DragonMaster still flew towards the city. As the spectical of the High Council finished, Xeron and the Headmaster appeared on the keep. They began to cast a spell, drawing open a large portal where elementals came through to the delight of the audiance. The portal was large and filled most of the view past the arena. When the portal Closed, the audiance was greated by the sight of the DragonMaster being RIGHT THERE! His head was the size of the Coliseum, he roared and breathed a gout of white flame as the Ancient Dragons of the High Council flew around him, Almost lost in his size. The DragonMaster Changed shape to his Human form and landed on the top of the Keep in the center of the Coliseum. He wore a suit of Golden Platemail that glinted in the magical lights. DragonFire raised his hand, joining in on the song, as did Xeron and the Headmaster. DragonFire summoned the pure essence of magic to his raised hand and then a pulse went from it, giving the audiance a mild tingle. He held it for a moment and the Slammed the magic into the castle he was standing on as the song ended, there was a flash, and the center of the Coliseum was empty.

After a moment Dragonfire stepped out onto the Arena along with the Headmaster.

"Thank you for your participation in the great festival of Magic" Dragonfire called out.

"The night is still young! Let us enjoy the final night!" The Headmaster Shouted.

And with that, the Festival of Magic came to a close.
