If you want to gain lots of levels easily it is preffered that you get a fairly big party(1-4 people) and ALL of you kill things. If anybody finds an item of a monster talk to your party members and ask them if you should trade, give, sell,or use the item. You should probably have a leader. If you dont have a leader just sell it.If you do have a leader give to him and let him decide on what to do with it,equip it,sell it or trade it.

I find that groups of two people work very well because if one of you leave you will still get more exp if 3 of you leave in a big party. So parties with 2-3 people works best for me. and once you get good enough to kill dragons you really dont need a party.

you shouldn't leave the party after being able to kill dragons. If everyone in the party is 20 levels within eachother they should keep killing things and they can expect to get more exp than by themselves and they should continue to stay in the party even when they can kill acid dragons easily and start trying at the Shadow Ephraim.
