DARLING, LOOK AT ME
I'VE FALLEN LIKE A FOOL FOR YOU. CAN'T YOU SEE? I'D DO ANYTHING YOU WANT ME TO.
Kurt sat in front of the mirror in his room, running a comb through his hair a thousand different ways, trying to adjust his hair in the best way he could possibly configure. Every couple minutes he would get frustrated with it, mess it up with his hands and try again. He usually didn't fret over his hair this much, but Blaine was coming over for dinner and he needed it to be perfect. He wanted everything to go over perfectly, for him. He sighed as he once more tried to get his hair right. He could hear Finn rummaging around behind him, trying to find something suitable to wear as Kurt had demanded he dress like an absolute gentleman for his boyfriend's visit. It was weird for Kurt to think he had a boyfriend, and telling his father was something that was sufficiently awkward enough. He hoped that his father would be able to hold it together. He knew it wasn't going to be one hundred percent easy for him, but he hoped he could do it for him.

Kurt smiled at his reflection as he finally got his hair right. He knew Blaine probably didn't care how his hair looked, or what he wore. After all, they had seen each other completely drunk out of their minds and in each others pajamas. It was a cute sight, and at the same time a little embarrassing when Kurt thought about it. He couldn't even believe half the things they had said to each other that night, nor could he believe the things he had admitted to Blaine in terms of the ways he had thought about him. He took it well, though. It was just downright embarrassing.

Kurt stood up and watched Finn trying to pick out something to wear. "I think that one looks nice." He pointed at one of the shirts Finn was holding in his hands. Kurt turned on his heel and put his hands on his hips. "With these jeans!' Kurt said as he walked over to the closet and point at a pair of Finn's nicer jeans. He gave Finn a smile and patted his shoulder. "Thanks for being here for this." He was proud to have his step-brother attending, and being OK with this. It meant a lot to him. He turned on his heel and began to make his way out of their room. "I'll see you downstairs!" He called out as he made his way downstairs to make sure that his father was prepped and ready to go.

As he reached the ground floor he looked at his watch, noticing that there was only a few minutes before Blaine showed up. Kurt looked at paintings on their walls, making sure that they all hung straight, that there was no mess and that everything was spotless. Blaine's house was something spectacular and beautiful. He wanted to do his best for Blaine because he was certainly worth it. He loved this boy and that's all he needed to make things perfect for him. He rounded the corner and saw that his dad was on the couch, watching a football game, though he was dressed. He looked the same as usual, but he was happy that he didn't seem nervous. Suddenly, the doorbell rang and Kurt whipped his head around to face the door. "HE'S HERE! EVERYONE GET READY!" Kurt called out quickly scurrying to the door. He took a deep breath before opening it. He then proceeded to open the door and flung his arms around Blaine with a big smile on his face. "Hey!"

Another turning point A fork stuck in the road,
Time grabs you by the wrist directs you where to go. So make the best of this test and don't ask why. It's not a question But a lesson learned in time

Blaine wasn't nervous... nope, not at all, what could he possibly have to be nervous about? He was only meeting his boyfriends father... and step brother... for the first time. Walk in the park, nothing to worry about...

Yep, ok, he wasn't even buying it, and it was his own brain trying to convince him.

He had left his hair free of gel and had put on a nice purple button down suit and jeans, a black jacket over the top. He wanted to dress up for Kurt and down for his father and brother. From what Kurt had told him, his dad was sort of... not like Kurt at all. Blaine had a lot of respect for him though, after all he did for Kurt and how much Kurt seemed to love him.

Blaine still had some issues with this Finn guy though, for how he let Kurt be bullied and didn't do anything to help him out. Kurt explained to Blaine how Finn had made up for it, sung him a song or something. But honestly in Blaines mind, Finn still had a lot of making up to do before he forgave him. Kurt was just too nice for his own good.

He'd been singing Taylor Swift songs the whole way too Lima, in remembrance of the night Kurt and he had finally gotten on with it and confessed that they loved each other. He seemed to have developed a fondness for her that he hadn't had before.

Now standing on Kurt's door step, he knocked on the door and couldn't help smiling widely when he heard Kurt yelling from inside the door for people to get ready cause he was here. It made him feel all fuzzy inside. That was nothing compared to how he felt when Kurt opened the door and smiled at him. He has a few seconds to take in Kurt's face before his boyfriend was in his arms and clinging to him. He laughed and wrapped his arms around Kurt in return. He turned his head to the side and kissed Kurt's ear happily. "Missed you too Sunshine" he murmured, still holding on tight to Kurt. Boy had he missed him.

BETTER DAYS

SO TAKE THESE WORDS AND SING OUT LOUD 'CAUSE EVERYONE IS FORGIVEN NOW 'CAUSE TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT THE WORLD BEGINS AGAIN

user posted image

This whole night was kind of surreal for Finn. Usually he was the one bringing home the girlfriend, having her meet his mother, and all of that. He'd been through the thing where you changed your shirt five times because nothing looked right and you combed your hair three times because it would not lie flat and felt like defying gravity. Tonight Finn had basically sat there and watched Kurt do the same thing he used to do, only about four times more. Maybe it was a gay thing? Kurt always cared about his appearance at least twenty more times than Finn, so that would make sense. He would have tried to calm his stepbrother's nerves, but at this point, he didn't want to distress Kurt by talking to him. The best thing he could do was mutely hold up a blue t-shirt that didn't have any writing on it and a green button down shirt. Of course, he was told the button down shirt was nicer. No one appreciated a nice long sleeve shirt that didn't have writing on it unless it had buttons. Finn seriously saw no problem whatsoever with this, but whatever. It was Kurt's night, not his. He nodded at the instructions on what jeans to wear and continued to watch Kurt. He wanted to help. He really did. But at this point? Finn had already done so much harm to Kurt and didn't want to make things worse.

Finn wasn't a great person at making people feel better unless it was in song really. He just didn't have that way with words. Instead of distressing Kurt more, he had stuck to silence. He wondered if that was a good idea, but it appeared that it had been as Kurt thanked him. He gave Kurt a smile and gestured for him to leave. He knew Kurt wouldn't settle down until after this guy, Blaine, got in the house. Finn had been just like that. For a moment, Finn wondered if he'd ever bring a girl home again. He didn't really feel like having a girlfriend for a while after everything that had happened. But maybe May would come for dinner as his good friend sometime? He had just met her, but he knew their friendship would stick for quite a long time. Finn realized that he'd better change so that he was ready by the time the mysterious Blaine. He closed the door and his blinds so that he could change quickly. He almost left the room just then, but saw his discarded pants and shirt laying in a heap. If Blaine somehow ended up in the second story of the house, he'd probably see the pile. Kurt would not be happy with Finn if Blaine that that Finn was a slob. So Finn folded his clothes nicely and put them in their proper places so that the room looked neat and organized. It really was the least he could do.

Finn left his room just as Kurt exclaimed that Blaine was here. Finn had to wonder if he would like Blaine. Admittedly, a small part of him was jealous and said that Blaine was why Kurt left McKinley. However, the rest of him was receptive of Blaine. After all the awful stuff Kurt had been through, he deserved a good guy in his life who made him happy. Whoever made Kurt happy, Finn would be happy with. Thus, Blaine had to be a decent guy. Finn bounded down the stairs with an athletic grace that came from way too many football practices. He got down the stairs just to see Kurt fling his arms around a boy with black curly hair who did the exact same thing. To Finn, this was slightly awkward as a heterosexual male, but he stayed where he was. There was no point in exiting now because it would have drawn attention to him. Instead he looked to Burt, who was just entering the room, and shrugged his shoulders in a gesture that said, if they like each other so much, I can put up with it. He adverted his eyes and waited until the couple was done being engrossed in each other. Finn knew the feeling and gave them respect by not staring or drawing attention to himself. They could have as much time as they needed because when one was in a relationship, it was pretty hard not to do something like this when seeing each other after a little bit of time. Finn understood, though the memories reminded him of too many other things. After some time, the couple was finally done and Kurt introduced the others in the room to Blaine. Finn moved forward to shake Blaine's hand and return a greeting. Finn could only wonder how dinner would go this evening.

BURT HUMMEL

But you did it your way and man you did it all.

Burt didn't trust this Blaine kid, no way, no how, no one was as wonderful as Kurt was making this boy out to be... well expect Kurt, but that was different, Kurt was his son, he was entitled to be perfect.

No Burt was sure this Blaine kid couldn't be trusted, but he kept his mouth shut because it had been years since he'd seen his kid this happy. Since before Kurt's mom had died. Hell Kurt hadn't even been this happy when he and Carole had gotten married. So needless to say Burt knew that his son liked this boy... a lot.

And he was ok with that... ok, he was working on being ok with that. He'd gotten used to the gay thing, he loved Kurt just the same. But this... well he was still working on getting used to the idea of his son bringing home a boyfriend.

He'd promised not to embarrass Kurt in front of said boyfriend though so he did what he was told, dressed himself in what Kurt had instructed him to wear, even if he felt over dressed. And headed to the door when Kurt had announced that the boy had arrived.

When he arrived he tried not to glare at the boy wrapped around his kid like an octopus but could only take so much. He glanced at Finn, who didn't seem bothered by it, and cleared his throat.

He was fine with his boy and his boyfriend being a normal couple, he wasn't about to tell Kurt he had to keep his bedroom door open, but he really wasn't ready to witness it just yet. He was working on it though

"Kurt, you going to introduce me to your boyfriend?" he asked, trying to sound happy and smile about the whole thing, when really he was a little nervous and just wanted to sit the kid down and grill him about his intentions and the like. He didn't want to see Kurt hurt again. The kid had been through enough in his life, Burt didn't want to see any more pain come his way.

DARLING, LOOK AT ME
I'VE FALLEN LIKE A FOOL FOR YOU. CAN'T YOU SEE? I'D DO ANYTHING YOU WANT ME TO.
Kurt loved the feel of Blaine's tight embrace and even more so the touch of his lips on his skin. He couldn't help but want to stay like this and just drift away from the complications of life. It had taken him a moment to realize that Finn and his father were both standing behind them as Kurt heard his father question if he planned on introducing them to his boyfriend. It felt funny and yet nice to hear his father actually say boyfriend, as if it somehow made it more official.

Kurt slowly pulled back as Blaine began to loosen his grip. He cleared his throat, "Sorry. Finn, Dad, this is Blaine Thomas. Blaine, this is my step-brother, Finn and of course my father, Burt." Kurt was never that great at introductions. He found them somewhat awkward, but regardless, this was bound to be a little awkward at times, and he understood that. It was the way that things went. He just hoped that his father didn't ask any embarrassing questions of Blaine. He wasn't as worried about Finn. He knew that Finn would probably just stay fairly quiet and eat his dinner. Regardless, he let the three shake hands and say 'hello' to one another. So far so good Kurt thought.

"Shall we go inside and get comfortable? Let's not make Blaine stand out in the cold." He stated as he led the way inside grabbing Blaine's hand and pulling him indoors. He slowly walked into the living room, letting them all sit down and get comfortable. Kurt didn't want to leave Blaine alone there with the two of them for fear of being grilled by his father or just having the whole situation becoming awkward without himself there to monitor it, but he had to look over the food and put finishing touches on it. He bit his lip in hesitance and simply stated, "I'll be right back, just going to go check on the food. Blaine, make yourself comfortable." He looked at his father with a very serious expression on his face and pointed a finger at him, "Behave." He said simply as he turned on his heel and scurried into the kitchen.

Kurt couldn't help but grin as he opened the oven to check how the lamb chops were coming. He had already finished and added some seasoning to the mashed potatoes and he crafted a garden salad that he was fairly proud of. He already had the table set up, all he had left to do was to add the food on the table. There was only a few more minutes until the lamb chops were done. He placed the mashed potatoes on the table as well as the garden salad and a loaf of home-made bread. He inhaled deeply and hurried back to the living room where the three guys sat as he had left them. Nothing looked too out of the ordinary. He couldn't really tell if Blaine was uncomfortable or not. "The food's almost done!" He interjected in case there was any animosity going on within the conversation. He slowly proceeded to make his way over and sit on the couch beside Blaine.

Another turning point A fork stuck in the road,
Time grabs you by the wrist directs you where to go. So make the best of this test and don't ask why. It's not a question But a lesson learned in time

Pulling back just enough to place a gentle kiss on Kurt's lips, Blaine smiled at him happily. "You look amazing sweetheart," he told Kurt truthfully, because he did look incredible, like always. But knowing he'd dressed up just for him tonight still made him a little giddy inside.

He looked over Kurt's shoulder when he heard someone clear their throat and he blushed cherry red when he saw Kurt's father and Finn standing behind them watching. He quickly took a step away from Kurt and smiled respectfully at Burt. Pulling out all the manners and charm his schooling and up bringing had given him.

He stepped forward and held out a hand, "It's wonderful to meet you sir, Kurt has told me a lot about you," addresses Kurt's father first, then turned to Finn and gave him a somewhat cooler smile, but still polite. ""You must be Finn, I'm Blaine, Kurt's boyfriend..." felt like he needed to add that he was Kurt's boyfriend, he hoped the message was clear, that his purpose in life right now was to protect Kurt and keep him smiling and happy. It was all he cared about right now, and Finn had been a part of hurting Blaine, even if he'd not realised it. His homophobia had harmed his love and he would not allow it to happen again.

"Thank you Mr Hummel for inviting me to dinner, I really want to get to know you better." He said sincerely as he reached out and took Kurt's hand in his as his boyfriend reached for him and pulled him inside. He smiled at Kurt as he guided him into the lounge and then sat down on the couch. He nodded at Kurt when he said he had to go to the kitchen and chuckled at his comment for his dad. "We'll be fine I'm sure sweetheart, go do what you need to." He let the pet name slip naturally without thinking about the audience they currently had.

They sat in silence for a moment when Kurt left and Blaine smiled at Burt, not quite sure what to say but wanting to say something that wouldn't get him thrown out or something equally as unappealing.

"You have an amazing son Mr Hummel." Is what he decided to say, because it was true, and he wanted Mr Hummel to realise that he knew that. He had to prove to this man that he loved his son and that he was a good thing in Kurt's life, not a bad one.

Finn may not have been the most intelligent person at McKinley, nor was he lined up to be valedictorian... but he could still tell when he was been snubbed. Right now, it appeared as if the only people this new guy cared about were Kurt and Burt. This was normal. But being almost completely normal? Not so much. To be honest, despite Blaine's charm, Blaine was being kind of rude to Finn. However, Finn was the guy who would never bring a situation like that into light. Normally, he'd simply have escaped the situation by leaving it. However, Finn was here for Kurt, his (step)brother. Kurt would never forgive him if he left this guy who (from the looks of it) Kurt was already in love with. No, Finn would respect the new guy, even if Finn wasn't being respected. He would go through dinner and be as polite as possible. Kurt expected such of Finn. Finn expected it from himself. He was being the good guy from now on. So what if he was a bit disliked? He would just take the higher road and act like nothing was wrong. Yeah, he might have to grit his teeth and bear it a little bit, but this was for Kurt. He had proved his worth at the wedding, but he wasn't going to destroy the new relationship he had with Kurt over one silly guy. Okay, not silly according to Kurt, but it got the point across. They were brothers and in the end, Finn had Kurt's back no matter what.. now.

The one thing Finn had going for him was that he did exude a "nice guy" aura of sorts. So he decided to turn on all of his charms for this guy. Blaine was doing that to his stepdad in hopes that it would work, though he might have been overdoing it. Finn wouldn't overdo it, but he was just going to play up that part of his personality. He just hoped, at least for Kurt's sake, that it worked. "You must be Finn. I'm Blaine, Kurt's boyfriend. Finn put on an easy smile that gave of sense of trustworthiness as well as calmness. Currently, it felt like he'd been slapped in the face, but he didn't show it. Instead, he reached out and clasped Blaine's hand in a sound handshake. He made sure his grip was strong but not too strong in case Blaine bought into the idea that so much could be gleaned from a handshake. "Yep, I'm Finn, Kurt's brother," he responded in the same terms as Blaine. "Well, really, stepbrother, but you know how it is." He moved back and allowed everyone to exit before he entered the living room. It gave a moment to prepare for what looked like a tense night. Blaine's use of sweetheart was a bit odd to Finn just because he wasn't used to this kind of situation. At all. But he could deal with it. He'd be okay... if he figure out how to get this guy to like him. He didn't know why, but it was just bugging him. He'd never met this Blaine guy. So what in the world had he done wrong?

He watched Kurt leave the room, wishing he could follow or take care of the food for Kurt or something. He moved to leave the chair he'd just settled into, but then thought better of it. Kurt had made the perfect dinner and Finn would only get in the way. Blaine had been there five minutes and he already wanted dinner to be over. This was going to be a problem. Finn didn't even know how to act around this guy. Kurt was his gay brother. So was that the equivalence of a straight sister? Should he be threatening that if the guy broke Kurt's heart, he'd have all of his football cronies (yeah, right, cronies) beat up Blaine? Maybe if Blaine didn't seem so tranquil about all of this, he would have. However, instead, Finn had to deal with some dude who didn't like him for no good reason. He was as impossible to read as Rachel was right now. Didn't Finn have enough on his plate with Rachel stuff? And now he had to worry if his brother's boyfriend liked him? A couple years ago, Finn would have thought this situation was ridiculous. But, no, here it was. And all Finn could do was make the best of it. At words, Finn glanced up to see if they were directed at him. Nope, why should he have bothered? Blaine was making small talk with Burt to win him over. Who cared about Finn? He didn't need to grant his permission to the couple or anything like that. Instead, he was just... there. A body in the room, one that nobody seemed to care about.... Finn shook his head to clear such depressing thoughts and put on a caring smile. He might as well act interested, even if he wasn't going to be included.

BURT HUMMEL

But you did it your way and man you did it all.

Burt took a seat in the lounge across from his son and the boyfriend, Finn sat off to the side in a sofa chair. Burt wasn't sure why but he didn't think Blaine liked Finn much, which bugged him. Why would the kid not like Finn? Did it mean he was normally an asshole and just nice to Kurt? Because that was not ok.

Burt looked to Finn and raised an eyebrow before turning back to Blaine in time to see Kurt leave and Blaine call him... well that was different, he wasn't sure if he liked it or wanted to tell the boy to not call his son that. He left it alone though, because the smile it brought to Kurt's face seemed to say that Kurt enjoyed the pet name.

He sat awkwardly for a moment until Blaine started speaking, and he nodded his head firmly. "Yeah he is, you'd do well to remember that" He said firmly, wanting to make his point clear.

Clearing his throat he shook off the threatening tone, his son needed him to be on his best behaviour tonight and he'd promised he would. "So, I guess you don't like sports either? Kurt can't stand them..." He smiled at the thought of Kurt watching a football game. "Not that that's a bad thing about him, just a fact." Added, he didn't want this boy to think he cared that Kurt didn't like sports. Kurt could grow his hair long, wear a dress and call himself Mary for all he cared, he'd still love his kid.

Running out of things too say he sat quiet for a moment before waving a hand at Finn, just as Kurt came back into the room. "Finn here is on the football team, quarterback", he stated and then regretted it and stopped talking again.

DARLING, LOOK AT ME
I'VE FALLEN LIKE A FOOL FOR YOU. CAN'T YOU SEE? I'D DO ANYTHING YOU WANT ME TO.
As Kurt sat by Blaine, he rolled his eyes at his father mentioning that Finn was the quarterback. He knew his father was trying, but honestly? "And Blaine here can sing on pitch through an entire number." He simply said as he crossed his arms and directed his gaze at Blaine, giving him a warming smile. Kurt wasn't trying to be snappy or undermine Finn's ability to throw a pigskin at remarkable lengths, but regardless, this was less about Finn and more about Blaine. Kurt loved Finn, and Finn knew that, but tonight wasn't about him.

Kurt glanced at Finn and noticed an unusual expression on his face. Was something already wrong? Kurt bit his lip in an anxious way, mulling over the idea that Finn didn't like his boyfriend. How was he supposed to bring Blaine over for dinner or for just regular hangouts when Finn didn't like him. This wasn't good. Then again, maybe Kurt was reading his facial expression entirely incorrectly. He hoped that was the case. He never really got Blaine's perspective on Finn. He had told him about Finn singing to him at their parents' wedding, but Blaine never really expressed much opinion on the matter. He gave a simple, 'that's nice' and that conversation was over with.

"Well, dinner will be ready in 5 minutes, so we could either get seated around the table now or we can sit here until then. Up to you guys!" he said, breaking the awkward silence. He didn't know exactly what to say. He simply hoped that his father and Finn both liked Blaine. A part of him wished that Carole were home and not working so that she could make the encounter much less awkward. Nevertheless, she wasn't and he had to do what he could to make this progress in a well-fashioned manner. He certainly wasn't worried about Blaine's behaviour. He knew Blaine was a gentleman and would therefore present himself as one, but his father was new to this and as was Finn. He hoped they could manage this, because this was who he was and this was all that his future was going to be.

Another turning point A fork stuck in the road,
Time grabs you by the wrist directs you where to go. So make the best of this test and don't ask why. It's not a question But a lesson learned in time

Blaine smiled as Kurt left the room, feeling a little out of place without Kurt there as a buffer, but he would figure it out, he'd have to if he planed on every being someone Kurt's father liked his son being with. So he smiled at Burt and nodded. "I'll do my best to always remember" he assured, hoping the man would believe him. He meant it and that was what mattered in his book.

His smile widened at Burt's question about sports, because this was something he could run with! "I love sports, College football especially, not that I'm much of a player, too small apparently, but I love to watch it." He could talk about the Buckeyes for hours, but he didn't mention his team in case Burt supported a different on, he didn't wish to start a battle of the teams right now. Though why in the world anyone from Ohio would support anyone else was beyond him.

He gave Finn a considerably smaller smile in answer to his comment about being Kurt's brother, even if the answer was somewhat belated. "I've heard a lot about you, Kurt's very fond of you..." He wanted to say more, ask him how he could have let Kurt fend for himself, ask how he could call himself a brother when he cared more about his reputation than Kurt. But he held his tongue, he'd promised Kurt he would give the guy a chance, and he would... sort of.

He smiled up at Kurt as he returned and then blushed lightly at Kurt's comment. "I hardly think my singing on key is of any interest to anyone..." he said as he turned to add in a quiet voice to Kurt alone, "means a lot that you think so though," he gripped Kurt's hand and squeezed it before turning his attention back to the other too.

"So I bet you guys are missing Kurt at McKinley then?" he asked Finn, doing as he promised and making an effort, though he had a feeling that at some point he'd have to have his say. He could only hold his tongue so long.

Finn listened to Burt make small talk with Blaine, though he didn't try to become involved in the conversation. Of course, Burt went straight to talking about sports. Finn thought his mom must have loved the fact that Finn now lived with someone else who liked football. When it came to talking, Finn was the most talkative about things that had to do with sports... especially football. Carole had put up with him talking about it, watching it, and reading about it for years. Now, Finn finally had someone to share it with. He believed that his mom was also secretly relieved. She had always supported his athletic aspirations, but she had never been one to truly follow the sport. Burt found the same issue with his son. Now, they had each other. It was a working relationship to bond over, if anything. Finn was even taking an interest in Fantasy Football just for the sake of bonding with Burt more. In truth, Finn wished he could do more to bond with Kurt. However, no opportunity had presented itself yet... until now. He just had to pretend that this guy was not creating any tension with him. Instead, Finn would love Blaine and find things to compliment Blaine on. Maybe that wasn't what Kurt was looking for, but right now it was all Finn had. He had no idea how to deal with this guy and he had to do something for Kurt's sake. It was necessary.

Finn paid more attention to what Blaine and Burt were talking about, just in time to catch his name. He gave a jovial smile (or jovial as could be with the tension) and opened his mouth to respond. At that moment, Burt cut in with the fact that Finn was a quarterback. The slightly jovial smile faded as Finn tried to keep the horror out of his face and resist lightly hitting his head against the nearest wall. Now, Blaine would never like him. Yeah, Blaine liked football, but Burt had just proclaimed the wonderfulness of Finn and made him sound so much better than everyone else. At this moment, of course, Kurt had re-entered the room. It was nice because Kurt took the edge off completely and ended Finn's horror. However, Finn had also seen the flash of Kurt's eyes as he looked Finn's way. The mixed expression had been caught. Now, Finn was going to have to try hard to convince Kurt that he liked Blaine. At the same time, he'd be convincing Blaine to like him. And he'd be convincing himself to like Blaine. Seriously, if Blaine had just liked Finn, there would have been no problem. But already, Finn found himself in an extremely complicated situation that could have rivaled his love life. He tried to catch Kurt's eye and give him a reassuring smile, though he didn't think he'd have any luck with Kurt paying so much attention to Blaine.

Until now, Finn had been fairly passive the whole situation. It seemed like he could have avoided blunders by simply not speaking all night. To be honest, Finn was not a man of too many words. It was part of his football side that tended to be a bit gruffer than the glee club side of him. However, now, Blaine was incorporating him in conversation. He shot a thankful smile at Blaine for including him that was fairly legitimate. He was impressed the guy had recognized his existence twice in a couple of minutes when it seemed like Blaine strongly disliked Finn. "Um.. well, yeah... of course," he began before sputtering to spot. He took a moment to compose himself before speaking again with a kind expression, though no smile.. "Sorry, my words got away from me," he apologized. "We miss Kurt a lot. Everyone loved him.. But we're really happy to know that he's safe now, which is more important." He was being slightly generic, but it was the truth. He decided to add one last bit, "Though, we are a little jealous that you guys got such a great singer." He chuckled a bit and smiled to show that he was kidding, though his tone was just a little heavier than it should have been for such a joke. He would have to work on that if he wanted to get through dinner. But he really was doing his best. That must have counted for something..

BURT HUMMEL

But you did it your way and man you did it all.

Burt fell quiet and let his son and step son talk to the boy who was currently holding his boys hand. He was fine with the fact that it was a guy doing it, it wasn't the gay thing that was bugging him. It was simply a protectiveness that no matter who it was touching Kurt, would always be there. At least until he knew that this kid would never hurt Kurt, and not only that, would never let anyone else hurt him either.

"Football? Really?" He asked in surprise, he raised an eyebrow and glanced at Finn. Who'd have guessed. Not that he thought all gay people hated sports, he wasn't that ignorant... well he wasn't anymore. It was just, the boy was Kurt's boyfriend, and Kurt hated sports. Then again, Carole hated football and Burt himself... well everyone knew his love of sports.

But it was good, something he could talk to the boy about. "What team do you follow?" He asked, hoping to god it wasn't some out of state college like harvard or yale. He may have to tell the boy to get the hell out of his house!

DARLING, LOOK AT ME
I'VE FALLEN LIKE A FOOL FOR YOU. CAN'T YOU SEE? I'D DO ANYTHING YOU WANT ME TO.
Kurt smiled as Blaine's modesty became evident within the room after claiming that his singing on pitch was of no interest to anyone. Kurt couldn't help but smile when Blaine grabbed his hand and gave it a squeeze. He returned the squeeze, holding on tightly and looking down at their united hands, before looking up and seeing his dad noticing the two of them holding hands. Kurt began to wonder if he felt uncomfortable about this. It's not like he'd ever witnessed Kurt doing this with anyone before. Maybe he should have eased him into it a bit easier? Then again, this was much better than his father walking in on Blaine and himself completely making out or who knows what else. Not that...they've done anything else. And that was OK with Kurt. Blaine had been nothing less than a gentleman the entire time they've been together. Even New Years night, despite being under the influence of alcohol, they were able to control themselves . . . well, kind of. Kurt had kissed Blaine rather ungentleman-like, though he loved every second of it.

Kurt smiled as Finn spoke about how much the club was missing him. He would be lying if he said he didn't miss being snappy with Rachel, or being the shining star in New Directions. However, what he had now was simply incomparable to everything he had to go through back at McKinley. Blaine was something different. He treated him special. Blaine was his boyfriend and at the same time, his best friend. If he had known he would wind up feeling this wonderful, he would have come to Dalton a lot sooner. Or at least, that's what he told himself.

Kurt was pleased that Blaine was making the effort to forgive Finn. He knew that Blaine was still somewhat resentful of everything Finn had neglected to do, even though Kurt had explained that Finn had made it up to him. Nevertheless, seeing Blaine try was important. "I do miss all of you guys too. Some...more than others." He added with a smile on his face and looked back down at his and Blaine's intertwined hands. He didn't want to let go of his hand, just like when they had kissed, he didn't want it to end. That was the case anytime they kissed or hugged. Any form of physical intimacy that they shared, Kurt felt he could continue it for an eternity. It was nice to feel that way about someone. It was new for him, but he did really enjoy everything about it. Why did people say relationships were so hard? Kurt felt this one was moving along effortlessly, even though they'd just recently become exclusive.

Another turning point A fork stuck in the road,
Time grabs you by the wrist directs you where to go. So make the best of this test and don't ask why. It's not a question But a lesson learned in time

Blaine looked over at Finn and smirked a little, because in his opinion he had gotten something much more than just a great singer when Kurt had transferred. He'd gotten a best friend, a boyfriend and a companion on top of a great singer for the warblers. He could have said all this to the highschool jock across from him but decided to save the romantic stuff for when it was just him and Kurt.

"Well you can't have him back" he joked instead winking at Kurt and chuckling. Pulling their linked hands up to his mouth and kissing the back of Kurt's hand. He turned his attention to Burt Hummel and nodded. "Yeah, I'm a Buckeye's fan, who else in this state?" He exclaimed, eyes twinkling with happiness. "I'm already trying to convince Kurt to let me take him to the game at McKinely on Superbowl weekend. He's not entirely sold on going back there yet, are you." he turned kind eyes on his boyfriend. "Not after what Karsofky did to you, I can't blame you, I still think it's important to face your demons though."

Blaine knew it was a little wrong of him to bring this up in front of Kurt's father, but he had been trying to talk to Kurt about this and getting no where. He thought his father should know just how scared of that place and that guy Kurt was. Maybe his father would be able to get through to him in a way Blaine couldn't.

The mention of all of that stuff sort of brought the mood down and Blaine could feel the tension from Kurt beside him, He turned his head and whispered gently in his ear that he was sorry and he only did it because he loved him. He kissed the skin below his lips softly before turning to Finn. "Out of curiosity Finn, do you still feel like your 'reputation' as the schools quarter back is more important than protecting someone you say you care about?"

There, he'd said it now, and he knew he'd been in trouble for it, from Kurt and maybe from the other two. But no one has ever accused Blaine of not standing up for those he cares about. And he was a coward once, running from his own bullies. He had sworn he would never do it again. And if that meant he had to help Kurt stand up to his, including his step brother, then he would. Whether it got him in trouble or not.

So far, it looked like football and glee were pretty safe grounds to talk about. Finn could do that. In fact, he could probably go for days only talking about football and glee club. They were his two favorite things, so it was hard for him to talk about anything else... except for maybe girls, but he did not want to talk about them right now. At all. Finn wasn't a huge talker anyways, so maybe whatever this was would work. All he knew was that Kurt's new boyfriend had something against him. This was weird, of course. Finn was the good guy. If he was in a room full of fifty people he didn't know, he would have fifty new friends within five minutes. If anything, Finn was used to people gravitating towards him. This here was plain unusual. So Finn was just going to go with it. Football and glee club. Nothing could get him wrong there. Or maybe he could try and deflect any conversation that was aimed at him. People wouldn't notice him if he didn't talk, would they? This was about Kurt and Blaine... but he was still there in the room, so maybe it wouldn't work... Darn. And he couldn't just disappear or Kurt would be mad. He caught the last bit of what Kurt and Blaine were saying just in time. "No, even if we miss him, we know he's happy with you guys. We'd all rather have him at the place that makes him happiest." Finn wasn't much of a person for underlying meaning, but hopefully Blaine got what Finn meant. He was just trying to be a good guy.

Football was the next subject of conversation. The good old Buckeyes! It was a shame that they hadn't stayed in the number one spot and played the college championship. Stupid Wisconsin. Finn had been really disappointed. At least they went on to the Sugar Bowl and beat Arkansas until it was black and blue. The slightly cocky statement about everyone being a Buckeye fan in the state slightly annoyed Finn though. The guy didn't need to shove his team down people's throats. But Finn quickly pushed this away. The feeling was probably a result from the awkwardness Finn had felt when Blaine kissed Kurt's hand. It wasn't too much PDA (Finn had probably done worse in front of parents); he just wasn't used to it. "The Buckeyes are a great team. Good choice, man," he agreed. Maybe agreeing with Blaine would make Blaine like Finn more. Burt was probably ecstatic now at the chance to talk about the Buckeyes. One of Finn's choices for college was OSU and he thought would be awesome if he could play for them and put the buckeye stickers on his helmet for each game he won and all that stuff. He looked up at Blaine when he started talking about the game Superbowl Sunday. How had Blaine found out about that? It wasn't a real game (football season was long gone), but the football players were going to duke it out in the snow for fun. People could watch if they wanted to, but it was going to be awfully cold. Would Kurt be into something like that? He looked at his stepbrother.

Finn's thoughts wandered away from him and he looked down as Blaine moved closer to Kurt for whatever purpose. Finn wanted to respect the couple's privacy. Of course, this allowed Finn to completely leave the room in his mind... which was a problem when Blaine's harsh words penetrated his skull. He looked up at Blaine, a mixture of surprise and confusion on his face. "Is that why I feel like you've hated me since the moment you got here? Dude, you didn't even wait to meet me before you started judging me?" he asked evenly, trying to keep all of his emotions at bay. Did this guy understand what Finn had been going through lately? No, he couldn't let that stuff get in the way. He had to be nice to this guy. For Kurt. "I made a mistake. Everything's different now. I'm a different person. I'm not going to apologize to you for what happened. Kurt understands what happened and why. He also knows that I am sorry for it every single day when I go to McKinley without him. What's happened has happened and we've moved on to be fairly close brothers. Maybe you should try to do that, man." He didn't mean for the last sentence to be as pointed as it may have sounded. He looked to Kurt, slightly distraught. He was not apologizing to Blaine for something Blaine wasn't a part of. That was ridiculous. He looked Blaine in the eyes. "Look, Blaine, I've suffered enough with my conscience and I don't need it from you. I'm trying very hard to make you like me and to be nice to you even though I know you aren't returning the favor. Please, please do the same thing. At least for Kurt." With that, he stood up and walked past the sofa, into the kitchen. He clapped Kurt on the shoulder roughly to show he was trying as he walked by. "Don't worry, I'll check on your lamb chops for you." The kitchen offered him safety, security, and time to compose himself...
