SHE ACTS LIKE SUMMER
AND WALKS LIKE RAIN, REMINDS ME THAT THERE'S TIME TO CHANGE.
May felt on top of the world. The applause that they garnered from the cafe was overwhelming. She couldn't help but wear the stupid grin that she seemed to be showcasing quite frequently since meeting Finn. May knew no matter how hard she tried, she wouldn't be able to wipe if off her face because it was something just so natural. She had never in her wildest fantasies imagined doing what she just did. She certainly didn't think she'd sing in a cafe with Finn, and she definitely didn't think she'd dance either. It was an entirely new experience to her, and though it was frightening, she enjoyed it very much.
May felt her face become warmer, and knew she was blushing as Finn began to tell her how great her voice was and how wonderful she was. She never thought that she'd be receiving praise for her vocal capabilities. That's generally because she never really knew she vocal capabilities. What made her cheeks redden even more was the fact that Finn had stated that her voice was perfect. This had shocked her the most. Christina Aguilera's voice was perfect. Whitney Houston's voice was perfect. Carrie Underwood's voice was perfect. Hers? That was a compliment she had never expected. "Thank you, Finn." She said shyly. She wasn't usually one to be at a loss for words, but that had caught her off guard.
She smiled as Finn mentioned he would love for her to join New Directions, and a part of her wanted to say yes, right then and there. That way, she would be able to see Finn all the time, which would be wonderful considering she was new. But she knew that she was new to the school, and she needed some time to settle in before jumping into something as demanding as a Glee Club. Nevertheless, she simply smiled, "I probably will do that. I just need some more time, ya know?" She replied honestly. She watched as Finn took a seat and followed suit. She exhaled deeply, letting out all of her excitement and pent up energy from the after affects of the performance they just engaged in. She smiled as Finn stated that was his only hidden talent. "How do you know?" She questioned. "Maybe your other talents are so hidden, you don't even know about them yet." She stated jokingly, with a raised brow.
She began to nod as Finn reminded her that it was her turn to throw some questions at him. She did want to know about Finn's current relationship status. She began to grow worried that a psychotic girlfriend would kill her for having a drink with him and dancing and singing with him as well. She hoped that wasn't the case, because the last thing that May wanted was drama. "Well, who's your favourite artist or band or whatever?" She began. They already discussed sports, which was a big part of Finn's life (and May's as well), so she decided to go with a second huge aspect of Finn's life. "Also, if you HAD to pick one, favourite song also." She added.

( PEOPLE MOVING ALL THE TIME ) I N S I D E A P E R F E C T L Y S T R A I G H T L I N E Now that Rachel was in Finn's thoughts once again, he wondered what she'd do when she heard about everything that had just happened in the Espresso Bar. If she heard about Finn having coffee with some girl, she'd be jealous. She would want to know who the girl was and give her a warning that Finn was hers, even if they weren't currently together. But otherwise, it wouldn't be too bad. If she heard that he'd paid for her drink, she'd forbid May from seeing Finn ever again. Then she would find a clever, surefire way to make Finn hers again. If she found out they sang together and that May was really, really good? Well... He had seen what happened to Sunshine. The vocal powerhouse had accepted an offer from Vocal Adrenaline and hadn't looked back. He bet Rachel could find a way to have May shipped off to Carmel High School and May wouldn't even have a say in the matter. Okay, so he was probably being kind of drastic at this point. Worst case scenarios were flashing through his head, not actual possibilities... hopefully. But he knew one thing. Rachel would not be happy about this new friendship of his. But Finn felt kind of devious at this point because, if anything, he wanted to spend more time with May.
Finn smiled and nodded enthusiastically as May told him she'd probably join at some point. He didn't want to rush her when she was so new to the school. She might want to figure out that the Glee kids were the losers before she joined. That might deter her, but she had already sung in the middle of an Espresso Bar. The girl had guts and he thought she'd join eventually. He had just infected her with the singing bug. Now, the only time she could express her feelings would be in song and dance. She'd join New Directions soon enough, he was confident in this. He could not wait. She'd be a great addition to their little club and might knock some sense into people. Maybe between seeing Finn and May, people could be less selfish and more down to earth. He was getting there, so why couldn't they be like that too? May spoke again. "How do you know? Maybe your other talents are so hidden, you don't even know about them yet." Finn raised an eyebrow as well. It was a fair point, though he didn't really think he had anything besides singing and football. "Well, if I find any more, I'll be sure to tell you first," he promised. "What about you? Any other hidden talents?" He did genuinely want to know. Well, he wanted to know everything about May really, but that was beside the point.
Finn was so happy when May asked about songs and music. These were less vague questions about high school. High school always made him worry and stress out. That's why he was so vulnerable about his popularity. Of course, that wasn't good because he was in glee club. But still, he just wasn't good at the whole stabbing people in the back and gossiping stuff. It wasn't quite his thing. He was much better with talking about his interests. Singing and football? They were totally fair game. "Well, I'm a huge fan of Aerosmith," he told May. Aerosmith didn't just do a song to get a number one hit. No, they felt the song and they made listeners feel it too. He had seen them once in concert as a birthday present one year. He didn't get any other presents from his mom, just the concert. It had been worth it. May wanted him to pick his favorite song too. He scratched his chin. "I guess I'd say Summer of '69 by Bryan Adams. It's just a feel good song about life and how much simple moments mean. Following your dreams and stuff." He didn't really know why else the song stuck out, but he just liked it. He was a classic rock fan through and through. "What about you, May? Got any favorites?" He knew that he had said she could ask the questions, but now he was curious and just had to ask. TEMPLATE BY WRECKOFTHEDAY ! OF CAUTION.

SHE ACTS LIKE SUMMER
AND WALKS LIKE RAIN, REMINDS ME THAT THERE'S TIME TO CHANGE.
May chuckled at Finn anouncing that if he had figured out if he had any other talents, he would be sure to let her know. She looked up at the ceiling at Finn's question of her hidden talents. She wondered what she could do that was fairly surprising to know. "Well, you know how they say, 'you throw like a girl'? I don't." She shrugged. She didn't know if it was really a hidden talent, but she could throw a football pretty far, and accurately at that. Even in baseball, she would always play pitcher during their community baseball games. She hoped it didn't sound conceited or anything of that sort. She knew she was good at it though, so maybe it was a little conceited.
She couldn't help but smile at Finn stating that he loved Aerosmith. She knew that if he sang Don't Wanna Miss A Thing it would be wonderful. She would definitely have to suggest that as song choice for him if he ever had to perform for a talent show or something of that sort. "That's totally what I expected. I am so on the ball." She laughed at her own honesty. "You strike me as an Aerosmith type. Summer of '69 too! Such an amazing song. It's neat that you appreciate the message so much!" She grinned happily.
She didn't really have to think about who her favourites were. She loved all music, but the second he retorted the question, she had a reply ready. "Fleetwood Mac is totally my favourite band ever." She said automatically, without any hestiation. She thought Stevie Nicks was extremely gifted vocally and that her songwriting abilities were something to admire as well. "As far as my favourite song, I'd have to go with either.... Dreams by Fleetwood Mac or Livin' On A Prayer by Bon Jovi. Both are tied." She stated with a nod of her head. Though these rock bands were her favourites, she could never imagine actually singing them. Her voice didn't fit those types of songs. She could do Mariah Carey, or Britney. But when it came to things like Bon Jovi, that was a whole new kettle of fish that she wasn't sure she could handle.
She pulled a loose strand of hair out of her face and began to think of another question. She looked him in the eye and bit her lip wondering if it was OK to ask this. Hesitation showed on her face, that was for certain. "So, do you have a girlfriend? And if so, is she one that's going to murder me for having coffee and singing with you?' She asked in a joking manner, but a part of her was serious. She didn't like to impose on couple's relationship, though she imagined that Finn wouldn't have agreed to something like this had he been romantically involved at the present moment.

( PEOPLE MOVING ALL THE TIME ) I N S I D E A P E R F E C T L Y S T R A I G H T L I N E Things were going well. Beyond well, in fact. He smiled at the fact that she didn't throw like a girl. Somehow, she just seemed like she was one of the guys. Except, you know, she was a girl and everything. "I bet you could hold your own in any sport." He meant it. Okay, so maybe not ice skating or cheerleading or something like that, but he had never considered those to be real sports. The people who participated in them were athletes, sure. But those activities? Not legit sports. People weren't really competing in the sense of how football teams or basketball teams or anything like that competed. In those sports, one competed to win. In ice skating and gymnastics, one attempted to obtain perfection. That wasn't quite the same thing to Finn. He smiled as she commented on how she'd pegged him exactly when it came to favorite music and looked down. Was he that easy to read? Eh, he didn't really care. "I'm glad you like them. They're pretty great." It summed up how he felt. He wasn't into music like Rachel was, but he did have those songs that just made happy. Some songs just stuck with him and that's what he'd say it was like for stuff like the song and band he'd just mentioned.
He listened to May name her favorite bands and they didn't surprise him either. In fact, he thought they fit her perfectly. The songs were fairly optimistic despite the scourges of life and that was how she was. He knew a lot of people, including himself, would be bummed for moving in the middle of the school year for such a weird reason. But May? No, she was fine with it. She'd even invited a random stranger to go have coffee with her in a coffee house. She didn't seem at all upset about the whole moving stuff. Instead, she was making friends. He was about to tell her this when she asked the fatal question that he had been hopping around the whole time. "So, do you have a girlfriend? And if so, is she one that's going to murder me for having coffee and singing with you?" Of course, the answer was that he didn't have a girlfriend. However... It wasn't that simple. His ex-girlfriend was some relation to him that he wasn't even sure of. Enemy? Friend? More? Less? He really wasn't even sure at this point. He couldn't answer the question without the whole story. He had to just lay it all out. there for her because she did deserve to know. After all, he'd been distracted the whole time by his current situation.
He cleared his face of any of his emotions that were showing. He was sure his face had showed the slight horror and revulsion, but mostly the reluctance. He took a deep breath before beginning his tale of sorts. "Well, I'm single right now," he began slowly. If he could just get it out quickly, he hopefully wouldn't relive too many painful emotions. "I recently broke up with my girlfriend. Well, it started with a cheerleader in Glee, Santana. Watch out for her because she is not one you want for a friend. We slept together last year, a poor decision on my part..." He paused. He did regret it, but he had to say it. It was a part of him now, even if it was unfortunate. "A while later, I began dating Rachel, who had been with another guy when I was with Santana. I loved Rachel, so everything was great.... except for the fact I didn't tell Rachel about Santana. Santana threatened to tell Rachel and eventually did. Rachel was upset and we went to couple's therapy (her idea) to see if there was hope for our relationship to survive." It was getting to the hard part.. "Then, we realized how stupid we were being and decided to get back together and stop lying. But she had one last thing to tell me. When we were apart for that short time, she almost slept with Puck, who's a player (just so you know). Puck slept with my girlfriend last year, Quinn, Sam's girlfriend, and she ended up pregnant. She even lied to me and convinced it was my child. This time, Puck stopped Rachel from sleeping with him. But she was so cruel and was trying to intentionally hurt me. She wanted to get back together with me right away... but I couldn't do it. How can I know if she won't try to hurt me again? She's been trying really hard to convince me to get back together, but I can't." He paused reluctantly and added, "And she may get upset, but she has no right. We're not together and I am my own person." He let out a sigh. There. It was over. She knew. TEMPLATE BY WRECKOFTHEDAY ! OF CAUTION.

SHE ACTS LIKE SUMMER
AND WALKS LIKE RAIN, REMINDS ME THAT THERE'S TIME TO CHANGE.
May tilted her head to the side and smiled at Finn's comment in his assurance tht she could fend for herself as far as sports go. She grinned at him. "Yeah, I pretty much am like an all-star." She said, trying to keep a straight face, but broke and began to chuckle. "Not really, but I try my best anyway. I love me some sports!" She ran her hand through her hair once more. It was a nasty habit that she could never get out of. She knew that the average person carried a great amount of oil on their hands and touching your hair would naturally make it oilier the more you touch it with your hands. Nevertheless, she couldn't help it. Anytime she told a joke, or felt somewhat anxious she would initiate the mannerism and no one could get her to stop, though many people hardly ever noticed.
She felt awkward asking him the impeding question of doom. Nevertheless, May felt justified in asking as she was technically hanging out with an attractive football player and if he had a girlfriend, her guess would be that she was a cheerleader and pretty as hell. She didn't want any cat-fights because she just wasn't into that type of thing. Though, she was sure she could kick her ass. May knew she was tough, despite her exterior image.
Finn let everything flood out fairly quickly. She tried to keep up as best she could. She raised a brow at Finn's admittance of having made the mistake of sleeping with this Santana and though he wasn't asking for it, May felt sympathetic towards him. Nevertheless, she couldn't help but feel not very fond of this Rachel person. "She...tried to sleep with someone when you were still with her...because you didn't tell her that you slept with Santana?" May raised a brow. "And...Puck got your, then girlfriend pregnant and convinced you it was yours? May was taken aback by everything he was telling her. She had to convince herself that this was all serious and not some kind of a joke. [color=C71585]"Did I move to Lima or to the set of a soap opera? That's some messed up shit." She said almost as a whisper. Though, May could certainly tell that Finn wasn't all that proud of the situation and the way he looked in this moment certainly portrayed his impression of the entire situation.
She reached out and patted Finn's hand with a reassuring smile on her face. She proceeded to let her hand rest on top of his, and continued to keep her eyes locked onto him. "You're right, Finn. She has absolutely no right to be upset with you. What you did with Santana, though you see it as a mistake and maybe it was...was before your relationship with Rachel." She bit her bottom lip thinking of how to proceed with the present subject matter and lifted her hand off of Finn's. "And Finn, you don't have to feel like you need to forgive her. And you should feel no guilt, either. I know you probably know this, but I think knowing and actually understanding are really two different things." She said simply and leaned back in her chair, a sympathetic expression still gracing her face as she peered at Finn.

( PEOPLE MOVING ALL THE TIME ) I N S I D E A P E R F E C T L Y S T R A I G H T L I N E Finn liked this girl. A lot. She was funny, smart, and a huge sports person. Why weren't there more people like her in Lima? Well, maybe it was because the whole town was a complete deadbeat full of Lima losers, but still. There had to be more people like this. Finn had never felt so comfortable with someone before. Usually, he just felt awkward. Like Glee club for the first time when Rachel tried to come on to him because she was excited to sing with him or whatever. That had been downright scary, even it was the beginning of when he kind of liked her (before he really loved her). Was this how you were supposed to feel around people or something? Because it really was not fair that he didn't feel like this more often. Why did everyone else get to have all the fun? "That's so great! The girls I know either don't like sports or aren't in to playing them or anything, it seems like." Rachel had never understood football. Quinn had understood football to an extent when it came to high school football, but she'd never been really into watching the pros or college games or anything else really. This just reinforced how awesome May was.
So now, May knew basically his life story. Great. That was attractive for sure. Now he was probably screwed, but everyone came with baggage right? The whole "great guy" thing wasn't really holding up well. Finn was a mess inside, so the good guy exterior couldn't quite hold up in comparison to the internal turmoil. He gave her an apologetic smile. He just hoped she understood what he'd said. There were just so many problems and the whole situation was twisted. It felt like Finn's life was twisted. And so came the inevitable questions. "Yeah, um, Rachel and I were kind of together at the time." He remembered those days of fighting. They almost seemed easy compared to now, though they had been very difficult at the time. "Yeah, I dated Quinn before Rachel. I didn't have sex with Quinn... I was still a virgin. But she managed to convince me through a slightly elaborate story involving some very embarrassing stuff that her baby was mine. But then it was Puck's." Hopefully that summed it up and May didn't want to know more. Finn didn't want to relate his problem of early ejaculation or his idiocy in believing that sperm could survive in a hot tub enough to make Quinn pregnant. That was a little too much to tell the new girl. Though, apparently Finn didn't know much discrepancy anyways....
Finn looked down when he heard May's whisper. His life sucked, but put that way? It just didn't quite sit well with him. He decided not to acknowledge the comment for now. Nothing in his life ever went right, it seemed. He always had these really awesome times with really great girls, but then something awful happened. And by something awful, that meant cheating occurred. Almost cheating or all the way and a pregnancy... Finn looked up as May patted his hand. It was such a nice gesture and something he needed right now. He didn't want sympathy, but something showing that someone else cared about him and his situation? It was greatly appreciated. "You're right... of course," he told her. "I think I do know it and understand it. It's just hard. And I did love Rachel. Even though most me wants nothing to do with her because of what she did, there's some small piece of me or whatever that still wants to be with her. It's killing me.." And that was it. The one thing he had the most trouble admitting. He still loved her in the back of his mind and that wouldn't go away. He wouldn't feel so torn up inside right now and would be on his way to getting over Rachel.... if there weren't that small part that still loved her. And as much as he wanted that love to go away or something, it wouldn't. No matter how hard he tried... TEMPLATE BY WRECKOFTHEDAY ! OF CAUTION.

SHE ACTS LIKE SUMMER
AND WALKS LIKE RAIN, REMINDS ME THAT THERE'S TIME TO CHANGE.
May understood the concept of most girls not being too fond of sports. She simply figured it was their loss. It was surprising though, as girls are naturally competitive, all human beings are. So the fact that many are not as interested in competitive sports as boys are was rather a depressing thought to May. "That's super lame. But I kind of suspected so in the surprise that you showed in my appreciation of it." She replied simply with a shrug of her shoulders.
May still felt slightly poorly for making the comparison of Lima to a soap opera, because it was Finn's life after all. She wasn't exactly thinking through everything she had said, but nothing could have prepared her for the idea of Quinn having been pregnant (as she did not look as if she had had a baby at all) and the fact that Finn had to go through the belief of being a teen father would certainly be very frightening. It truly was like the set of a soap opera. May raised a questionable brow at Finn's explanation of Quinn's elaborate story of convincing Finn that the baby was his, even though he was a virgin. "Oh my. Well, I'm sure she was clever in the way she convinced you. That's some intense scheming. Where's her baby now? Does she still have it?" May asked curiously, though it really shouldn't have concerned her. Nevertheless, despite her hobbies, May was a girl, and things like this did occasionally intrigue her.
May once more felt sympathetic towards Finn. He was evidently struggling with this entire situation. The fact that he'd been so hurt by this girl, and at the same time still felt for her was tearing him apart. May could see that, and obviously, Finn could see that in himself as well. Falling out of love is hard, May knew that first hand, and that's something Finn here, was experiencing at it's fullest. He wanted so badly to move on, but at the same time, his feelings for this Rachel were evident to May. "Finn, you can't force yourself to feel a certain way. Maybe you should just . . . you know, be natural. Try not to think so much about the situation. That's what messing you up." She tried to give any helpful advice that she could think of. She knew that Finn didn't want to feel that way about Rachel after what she did, but at the same time, he did. It was complex. Though, most of it was complex because he was letting his head get in the way. And sometimes, that wasn't always the best thing to do.

( PEOPLE MOVING ALL THE TIME ) I N S I D E A P E R F E C T L Y S T R A I G H T L I N E Sports were a major part of Finn's life and May got that. He didn't have to explain; she just understood because she was the exact same way. It was just great to have someone he had so much in common with. Usually, it was a push and pull relationship between Finn and other people. And normally he gave a lot more than he received in those relationships. He had always watched a ton of musicals with Rachel while she had only watched a few sports games with him. But then, that's just the kind of guy Finn was. He was always determined to make relationships work, so he always worked really hard at those. It could be a friendship, family, girlfriend, teammate, etc. He just couldn't stand not having people like him and stuff like that. He liked healthy, strong relationships, so he tried to be the best he could be. Sure, sometimes he screwed things, but even that was something he tried to avoid most of the time. He did alright though. But this new friendship with May was absolutely effortless, which was why he appreciated it so much in this moment. There was no trying to be something that you are not and pretending to be interested in something you are not. Instead, their personalities simply fit together effortlessly.
And so came the inevitable questions about the baby. Finn could remember his life in those days when he had thought that he was going to be a father. He had been freaking out, completely panicked. He had been determined to do whatever it took to make sure his child had a good life. He had tried to make New Directions and football as big as possible because he had known he wouldn't be able to go to college without scholarships for singing or football. That had led to the second time he'd kissed Rachel. He had meant to simply lure her back to New Directions, but he had felt something for her in those brief moments. But that hadn't changed how determined he'd been to make sure the future of his child was safe and secure. But then he had found out it was Puck's. Sure, it was great that Quinn had wanted Finn to be the father of her child, but that had never changed the fact that he wasn't. She had lied to him. It had nearly destroyed him inside. How do you deal with so much? But he had made a great comeback when he managed to pull himself together for sectionals... which they won! And that had really got him back on his feet, thank goodness. "No, she didn't keep it. The baby was adopted and Quinn hasn't heard much since." He didn't really know all the details about what happened with the baby. At the time, he had not wanted to know anything and now, he was indifferent about it.
Everything that May was saying was right. In fact, it was stuff he already knew for the most part, but the problem was how? He couldn't figure out how to get over all of this. Thinking about it was tearing him apart. But how could he just not think about it? It used to be that a lull in his thoughts meant that he wasn't thinking about anything. Now, a lull in his thoughts gave way to an opportunity for him to think about Rachel. He knew this was a very bad thing, but he couldn't get away from it. "That's what I've thought a lot, but I just can't not think about it. Everything that's happened always manages to creep back into my mind and it sucks. I'm trying to focus on just being myself before everything that happened, but even that hasn't kept away the thoughts and uncertainty." He wished it were different. He was just so messed up. If only there were some way for him to go back to the start, before everything went down, and be the person he was. Life wasn't that simple though. It was rather unfortunate. No matter what he did, he still came back to all of these thoughts and questions. There were moments where he forgot everything only to be crashing down once again as everything hit him once more. It was the worse feeling in the world. Finn wanted to escape it so badly. But how could he do that? He had never been one to run away.... TEMPLATE BY WRECKOFTHEDAY ! OF CAUTION.
