I CAN'T EXPLAIN A THING I want everything to change and stay the same
Kiata looked at Koto in shock, for once the quiet one in the room. It was the longest string of words she had ever heard her roommate mutter at one time, and they were much deeper than anything she had ever shared before. The importance of this step in their friendship seemed to be downsized by the fact Koto seemed almost half asleep anyway, but Kiata took this deep conversation as a good sign.
As her roommate rose and made her way slowly to the bathroom Kiata flopped back onto her bed, looking up at the ceiling again and allowing herself to sink into thought. She hadn’t thought that Koto would understand, then again Koto gave away so little Kiata could never be sure what to expect from her roommate. Originally she had thought that friendship was equivalent to love; like the sort of feelings she felt for her parents and brother.
But after coming to the academy she realized that friendship wasn’t love like that, but love on a more rudimentary, less developed level. She cared about her friends but in varying degrees, ranging from simple classmates to people like Koto who she felt utterly comfortable around. Like she had already said she hadn’t have many friends before coming to the academy and now that she suddenly had so many she wasn’t quite sure when she should start considering acquaintances friends. But Koto’s words helped; friends were people who really meant something to you, and she was proud to say she had a good healthy number of those now.
This thought brought up Kiata’s spirits considerably and with new-found energy she stood back up, heading back to her closet. “Yeah, I think I get what you’re saying, Koto-chan.” Kiata called to her friend as she rifled through her closet.
Finally she came across a baby blue top with white hearts all over it. She hadn’t worn it in a while and blue was a good color on her, so she laid it out before returning to find a bottom. She settled on a simple black pleated skirt and a pair of preppy black pumps with white accents. Kiata smiled at her outfit in triumph, glad to have gotten over whatever had been ailing her creativeness before.
It wasn’t that late yet but Koto seemed to be almost ready for bed, which really was a shame since they had barely gotten to talk at all that day. Kiata decided that she should take a shower; because even though she had gotten out of those awful wet clothes she was still a little chilled. “Hey Koto, I think I’m gonna take a shower!” Kiata called to her roommate, gathering up her stuff and picking out a fresh towel. She headed for the bathroom and scooted around Koto, who was at the sink, and piled her stuff in the corner.
“The light won’t bother you, will it? I swear I’ll go fast, I can always wake up early and do my hair then. Are you tired? Oh my gosh!” Kiata slapped her forehead and said in embarrassed surprise, “I didn’t even ask you how your day was! I didn’t see you at all, what did you do all day?”

TRY AS YOU MIGHT She lightly slapped the switch for the lights as she stepped in. Her face, for once, showed exactly what she was feeling, and that was fatigue. It had been a long day, and it still wasn't over, but Koto didn't care. She was tired enough to collapse into sleep right then and there in the bathroom, but alas, she couldn't do that. Silently heaving a deep breath, willing herself to stay awake just a little longer, she grabbed the plastic cup she always used and placed it in the sink.
Her hand moved to turn on the faucet, but she paused for a bit to listen out the door. Kiata had gone quiet again. Perhaps today was just an off day for her. It happened to the best of them, after all. Deciding to let her be, Koto turned the water on, watching the water quickly fill up her cup and shutting the water off before anything spilled over, and then lifting the cup to take a small sip. She swished the small amount around her mouth for a while and then spit it out, moving on the prepare her toothbrush.
After applying the toothpaste and dipping the toothbrush in her cup of water, she started to brush, not even thinking about counting this time around. Usually, she'd count out sixty seconds for the upper and lower teeth as she brushed, but she couldn't be bothered now. As long as she felt she was being thorough enough, she would be fine. Hearing Kiata speak up, she leaned out the doorway a bit, finding the girl to have gone back to her clothes. Back to normal, huh? Koto really didn't know where in the world the blonde got all her energy from, but she didn't have to. Her roommates brightened things up well and provided good company. That was enough for her. She went back to her brushing, moving on to the upper set of teeth.
Once finished, she rinsed her mouth and then went for the tongue scraper, moving out of Kiata's way as the other girl made her way in. Koto would answer after she rinsed her mouth out again. Finishing and washing the scraper, she sipped more water, just about to spit it out when a loud slap gave her a start. When she turned around to face Kiata, the look on the other girl's face cause a giggle to bubble up in Koto's throat. She whipped back to the sink, some water spewing out of her mouth as the laughter turned into choking. Holding a hand up as if to say "I'm fine," she coughed out the rest of the water and whatever else was there, though something of a chuckle slipped out before she got her grip back on herself. Kiata's widened eyes like a deer caught in a headlight, her mouth slightly agape, and her hand stuck to her forehead...Oh, it was too much. It was funny in that cute way. Wiping her eyes and mouth with her shirt, she calmed her breathing before replying, "Spent time with my cousin." She managed to force back whatever laughter was left, and continued with a slight, hidden grimace that could be heard in her voice, "Shopping." She gently splashed some water onto her face before drying it with a towelette and hanging it back on the rack she had taken it off of and taking her leave to let her roommate shower. "Take your time." She promptly crawled back onto her bed, stretching before curling up into a ball, and pulled her blanket over her. "Night."

For as long as anyone in Oyama, Japan can remember Shinō Academy has existed. Lying just outside the city the school is home to some of the most brilliant minds and rigorous academic courses available. At least, that is what the rumor is. No one from Oyama seems to actually know what is behind the academy walls. Enrollment being by invitation only the academy has kept itself secluded from the town all these years. Students attending the academy may be seen around town occassionaly but none show much interest or willingness to discuss the school with outsiders. Much of the townspeople in Oyama have learned to leave it well alone, Shinō Academy remaining still today a mystery.
If only they knew the truth about the academy and the students...
Welome to Shinō Academy
