If you've been interested in computer programming for any length of time, then you've probably come to the stark realization that if you're ever going to learn this stuff, you're going to have to jump right in yourself. Waiting on the classroom teaching won't always cut it.

With that in mind, here are a number of great sites online that offer free programming guides, tutorials, and lessons.

C/C++
Knowledge is Power -- A great site run by our own club president. The links section has some good resources.

Thinking in C++ -- A free online book by Bruce Eckel.

C Programming.com -- Good tutorials on both C and C++. Also has good information on the various compilers available. Beginner friendly.

C++ A Dialog -- Free eBook by Steve Heller. If you like to thoroughly study a subject when learning it, this is the site for you. Detailed and beginner friendly.

C++ in Action -- Another free web book. I haven't used this site yet, but it looks good.

C/C++ Language Quick Reference -- The MSDN reference site.

C++ Language Tutorial -- Detailed guide at cplusplus.com.

About.com -- Tutorials for both C and C++.

Programmers Help -- Info on over a dozen languages.

Correct C++ Tutorial -- Designed for beginners.

How to Think Like a Computer Scientist--C++ Version -- Very detailed eBook.

Please post if you've found any of these sites helpful or lacking in any way. There should be something here for everyone's learning style. I will keep this post pinned and update it regularly. If you know of any helpful sites, let me know, and I'll add them to the list.

Lists for other languages coming soon.

A very good site and book for assembly language is Robert Hydes art of assembly. It is a basic book and covers all the prlems that are covered in any begining programing class. While taking the assmebly course here it was the only refernce i used; it is through and to the point. Checking the prices on amazon this book is about 50 dollars less than the assigned text

Thanks, Mark. smile.gif

Tony, I'm going to take a look at that book when I get around to taking Assembly.

Also, if anyone else knows of some good books, post them, and I'll compile a list.
