Count me in
Cause now I only see my dreams in everything I touch. Feel their cold hands on everything I love. Cold like some magnificent skyline, out of my reach but always in my eyeline now.
The phone call had been late at night but Kata didn’t mind, not once she answered. Kieran and she had been close in college – in a strictly platonic sense. They had done research together on many a long night. He’d been one of the only people to really believe her when she mentioned parapsychology. He was clueless on the matter but he believed her. Kata developed a lifelong ally the day Kieran said, “I believe you.”

She hadn’t expected a call from him at one in the morning and she certainly hadn’t expected a call of that nature. Kieran was speaking in a hushed tone almost to the point that Kata couldn’t hear him. At first she was worried that her friend was in trouble. She was ready to jump in her car to save the day but his offer, or his request sent her into such a frenzy that she had no choice but to accept.

Kieran had asked her to speak to an angel. Well, what he thought to be an angel. It seemed the man in question had since changed his mind. The others thought the man was incredibly unbalanced but something, maybe the nerd, in Kieran left him unconvinced. It wasn’t that Kata hadn’t met an angel before; she just hadn’t been able to formally evaluate one. She’d attempted to get into the angel mindset but not directly. Now she would be one on one, and her progress would be noted by someone other than her and her cousin. It was incredibly exciting. Gaspar hadn’t been thrilled about having to sleep in the car but he knew better than to argue with his cousin when she was in hot pursuit of knowledge.

Kata had only noticed Kieran’s desire to hug her until after she’d walked past him. She often forgot formalities when a carrot was dangled in front of her face. After a brief and forced hug of civility, Kata looked at the file presented to her. A huge grin crossed her face. The man, ‘Jimmy’ had gone from saying he was Castiel and talking with a girl who claimed to hear angels to pretending he was a husband and a father. Kata couldn’t wait to meet him.

”Look, before you go in there, you’re not supposed to be here.” Kata smiled again, ”I realize that. How much time do I have?” ”Well, it’s my shift and the nurse comes in every hour. If you go in after she leaves you get almost a full sixty minutes.” ”Well yeah, considering that’s an hour.” ”Kata…” he sighed, feeling that the young woman wasn’t taking the situation as seriously as he was. ”Just find something out.” Kata nodded, watching the nurse leave. She waited until the woman was down the hall before going in. Her angle was still being worked out in her brain. Would she come out and ask if he was an angel? Would she speak to him like a crazy man and drive him to admit the truth? No, she’d catch him in a lie. That way if he wasn’t an angel, she didn’t add any fuel to a mentally ill man’s fire.

She approached the man in the bed and smiled, ”Jimmy?” she asked, humoring him as part of her tactic. She extended a hand, ”Kata Denes. I understand that you’ve been having a rough couple of days…” Explain away, secret angel man.

And you were waiting on the edge of the unknown

Sitting in the small room was rather infuriatingly boring; Castiel’s first night sleep had been unpleasant, and full of fighting with memories of Gabriel’s capture. Waking up earlier to the commotion outside his room ended up with the angel helping disarm an unusual man who seemed to have hurt someone with a broken plastic utensil. All he wanted to do was go to the cafeteria and meet Lark for breakfast, though he had no intention to eat, the desire hadn’t settled in yet to bother. Though it had been requested that Castiel return to his room, while the reason had been for a meeting with Kata, the angel wasn’t told this and worried he may have done something to get in trouble, the exact thing Lark had wanted to avoid.

When the door opened, blue eyes peered over towards the female who entered, half having hoped in the initial second it was Lark looking for him, and disappointed to see it wasn’t. "Jimmy?" Castiel had ended up sitting on his bed, there wasn’t a lot of things in the room; with back up against the wall, and legs crossed. Staring over at her hand a little confused, once again recalling the gesture and feeling unmotivated to return it though not wanting to be rude either, leaving him looking a little indecisive on the matter. "Kata Denes. I understand that you’ve been having a rough couple of days…." Couple of days? Maybe a few weeks, few months if you didn’t include the time wasted being dead. Since rescuing Dean from hell and acquiring a vessel, things had not been going so smoothly in his life, doubt and betrayal seemed a constant and things were far too complicated at the best of times.

Hesitantly Castiel reached out, trying not agitated his sore body or the hurting left side ribs in the movement, scabs and bruising on the knuckles a hint to the fight he’d been part of and difficult to hide. The problem being he stretched out the wrong hand, so when the angel took hers his palm pressed lightly against the back of her offered hand, instead of palm to palm, as it should have been. "Yes," The single word was offered in response to both her use of his vessel’s name and in reference to the last few days, however as he settled back, it became evident the blue eyed man had no intention of carrying on with more details.

Admittedly he looked tired, and thanks to the painkillers maybe even a little out of it as the powerless angel kept a steady gaze on the woman. All Castiel wanted was to get out of here, to find Gabriel and set things right again, instead of being trapped in this facility against his will for no reason other then he had urged the importance of being released with nothing but truth. When had honesty become so bad a thing that it could get him into this much trouble with people?

Talkative Cas! >.>

‘Jimmy’ didn’t want to say much. Was this because he wasn’t in the mood to chat or because he was worried about what he would say. Kata pulled up a chair and sat beside the bed. She didn’t bring a clipboard or a notebook. She usually didn’t. It was hard to really see why therapists and the like still chose to do so in front of patients. No one really wanted their thoughts on paper especially not dictated by someone else. Kata wanted their meeting to go like a conversation. She didn’t want to be seen as some hack psychiatrist who was going to ask him how certain things made him feel. Trust didn’t work that way.

“Do you need anything?” she asked. There was no way to sugar coat the idea that making someone grateful made them more likely to open up to you. Kata wanted the man comfortable or so uncomfortable that he admitted everything in hopes of finding comfort thereafter.

The young woman sat back in her chair, exhibiting a relaxedness that she hoped would put Castiel at ease. “So what brought you here? Do you remember?” She asked not in a way of a clinical professional but of a curious friend. Kata was curious as to what the man would say he knew and what he actually did know. The more they discussed past events, the more likely she was to catch him in any sort of lie.

Not wanting to bog the man down with questions, as he was clearly a bit puzzled by her presence and what to make of it, Kata waited for him to reply. She would not fire off question after question nor would she fill the room with the sound of her voice. Her tactic was to seem like she really just wanted to talk. Coming across as someone who wanted inside the man’s head was not a good idea. The more she seemed to want his story the less likely he would be to give it to her. Often times people thought her cruel to use such methods on poor unsuspecting people but the sooner she figured out who the man was, the sooner she could help him in some way or another. If he was an angel, some hospital was not the place for him and if he was a crazed man, he needed better doctors.

And you were waiting on the edge of the unknown

"Do you need anything?" What Castiel did need, he somehow doubted the human could offer. So instead, the angel merely watched the new arrival, not sensing any of her emotions, not reading any of her surface thoughts, nothing, all as quiet and empty as ever. There was a slight shake of his head to signal that thought, no, he didn't need anything. "So what brought you here? Do you remember?" As much as one could being mostly unconscious or out of it for the last half of the fight, which didn’t improve Castiel’s mood at all as he recalled that failing. The request of ‘what he remembered’ was an unusual one, since technically Castiel remembered a many years worth of things, though last night when he had been ask a similar question by Lark, she had wanted a more concise, recent recollection. Taking that into account, Castiel guessed this individual would also wish for a briefer, more recent recount of what had happened.

"I was caught in the middle of a fight," The honesty made it easy to know what to say, though how honest he could be left the angel over thinking each comment to be made. "I was injured, they forced into their loud vehicle, then I woke in a bed." Castiel raised his arms a little to motion at the room they sat in, "After which I was brought here." There was of course the attempt to walk out of the hospital which had displeased the nurses, followed by his insistence to be released and then the warnings of Gabriel’s danger… Castiel didn’t really feel that was productive to get into details on those aspects, it seemed a little short though, did she want more or…

"I sat in the … cafeteria… last night, and then was escorted here, and I have been here all night, you the have come and we are talking." Well that was everything in the recent period, without getting into details regarding anything heavenly or what might be considered out of the normal for a human uninvolved with the supernatural. So far, so good.

The first answer had been fine but the elaboration made Kata smile. No human would go into such detail, nor would they conclude with the current happenings without a bite to their words. The young woman mentally put a point under the ‘angel’ column. A human would have seemed scared as he explained the things Castiel did yet the man before he seemed to be reciting the entire sequence of events as though he were reading a list rather than remembering a confusing and trying time. A human would have seemed less sure. Castiel’s in depth account did his façade very few favors.

“Have they been treating you well?” Kata asked, leaning toward the man ever so slightly. It was a near imperceptible way to create a feeling of closeness and camaraderie. It was to offer a sense of comfort to the man. She did not invade his privacy at all, but the small, almost entirely unnoticeable by the subconscious gesture was to suggest that she cared. Kata did care of course, she didn’t want an angel or any psychologically unstable individual to be mistreated but the extent of her care was slightly exaggerated.

Kata wanted to help the supposed angel but she was also curious. She had to figure out a way that both desires would be satisfied at the end of her short time with Castiel. The young woman did not want to seem as though she were acting quickly but in her mind, she was speeding along a track, waiting for Castiel to change the gears.

“I don’t want to sit here and hit you with a barrage of questions, Jimmy so I’ll let you talk to me and if I’m confused, I’ll let you know. I’m here to hear what you have to say. Anything at all, I’m an open book. If you have questions I’ll be happy to answer then and if I can’t, I’ll find someone who can.” Asking him a string of questions would only cause him to immediately put his guard up and the more she tried to know, the stronger his resolve would get. Giving Casti-mmy a chance to turn the tables would tell her what he wanted to know, what was important to him. It would give him a feeling of control in a situation that spared him none.
