→ i know i died that night

The sun had finally dropped below the western horizon.

Darian took a deep breath, savoring the cool night air as he walked the few short blocks from his hotel to the sprawling Boston Public Garden, where he hoped to catch a quick bite to eat while admiring the garden's wide array of rare, night-blooming flowers. He'd been working far too hard lately, between running his businesses and plotting his brother's downfall, and he felt the need to just take a moment out of his busy schedule and relax. With his current rounds of negotiating were over here in Boston, he decided he'd stick around for a day or two and take in the scenery, as it were.

It didn't take him long to reach the garden, and the mingling scents of a thousand different flowers blended with the crisp evening air caused the vampire to pause and close his eyes, savoring the sweet aroma. And, mixed with this fragrant perfume, Darian could detect whiffs of the few straggling sight-seers who continued to wander the gardens after dark. His stomach twisted at their scent, and he realized it had been an entire day or more since he'd fed, far too long in his opinion.

Slipping soundlessly into the garden, Darian kept his senses alert, ready to take down the first person he came across. He was ravenous, and the more he dwelt on just how hungry he was, the hungrier he became. It felt like an eternity had passed when he finally caught sight of a middle-aged man fussing about with a tripod and camera, cursing under his breath about how he'd lost the light while setting up his shot. Darian's lips curled into a sinister smile as his fangs slowly descended.

Perfect...

He was on the man in the space of a breath, his fangs sinking into the warm, soft flesh as his hand clamped down over the tourist's mouth, stifling any sounds he might make. Just as quickly, Darian pulled the man into a stand of bushes just off the path, and there he took his time feasting, not stopping until his victim was completely drained of blood. Standing up and licking his lips clean, Darian stepped casually back onto the path and walked along, feeling much better and whistling to himself as he enjoyed the gorgeous evening.

Only a few minutes had passed before he found himself kneeling before the first of the garden's night-blooming flowers that he'd encountered, the Evening Primrose, and he savored the plant's sweet smell, blocking out the rest of the world around him. Standing back up, the vampire was preparing to move on when another scent came to him, carried on the slight breeze. It was unusual, and something that he'd never encountered before, which both worried and interested him. It had the familiar hint of warmth, and life, and delicious, running blood, but at the same time there was a mingling of something else, like honey, and sunshine, and fresh green grass...

Intrigued, Darian made his way further down the path, following the scent and determined not to stop until he'd found its source.

With every new story told, a faerie is born.

It had been a busy day for Sapphire, not only had she found a small hotel to stay in, but she'd spent the day walking around Boston, exploring and generally having fun at playing tourist. She'd even managed to find a small cake shop, known as The Cake Fairy, where she stocked up on a couple of cupcakes, the ones she'd chosen were appropriately named Sweet Tooth Fairy cakes.

The cake shop had been her last stop for the day because after, she went back to her hotel to drop off her purchases and grab some dinner, before she set out to do what she really wanted to.

The gardens, she'd heard were the best part of Boston and what was truly magnificent about them were the rare flowers that bloomed after the sun had set and these are what had Sapphire travelling and staying over.

***

The sun had set a little while ago and Sapphire had just entered the public gardens where she was surprised at the amount of stragglers still around. The majority of people she'd seen were in pairs and were clearly lovers, young and old, whereas the other humans were on their own and carrying around equipment such as tripods and cameras. She observed them closely and smiled at the couples with their loving touches, the private jokes they shared that made each other smile. She watched with amusement as amateur photographers struggled to set up their tripods and get the height right, the professionals getting angry as they have missed the perfect 'shot' because of the lack of light.

The blonde faerie breathed deeply as she took in the wonderful mix of scents and let them wash over her, along with the breeze, as she found herself twisting down the different pathways. The gentle tap of her heels against the path created a soothing beat and served to relax her as she explored. She stopped occasionally to look at the blooming flowers and let her hands reach out to caress the velvety petals and when she moved on, her hand remained close to the plants and trailed along the wall, not only serving as a guide but also to keep her steady as she took in the sights and looked around.

That's when she saw it, the most beautiful display of flowers she had ever seen and she knew, she just knew that these were the types of blooms she had to have in her garden. They were huge, bright and absolutely gorgeous, their varying colours, heights and appearance contrasting and clashing together.

Sapphire quickly approached the large, raised, circular flower bed and immediately bent over to sniff and the sweetness engulfed her. A large smile was spread across her face as she slowly went round, touching, feeling, smelling and just absorbing the sights. She stopped, however, when she had done a complete circle but she didn't want to leave. Instead she opted to hop up onto the wall of the flower bed and watch the stars. It was a clear night, the stars were all out and even though it was breezy, it was still quite warm.

In Sapphire's books, there was only one way a day like hers could end and this was it. She sat for a few minutes, enjoying the solitude when she felt her stomach growl slightly and chuckled. She carefully reached into her bag and pulled out a delicately wrapped parcel. Once she'd opened it, Saff picked at the Sweet Tooth Fairy cake and happily ate it, enjoying how all of her senses were occupied with the sweetness of the cake, the sight of the stars, the sound of distant laughter and the smell of every bloom in the park.

The faerie was quite oblivious to all that was around her, in particular, to the dangers that a single woman at night, brought because Sapphire was too busy enjoying the perfect ending to her day.

→ i know i died that night

Darian was nearing the intriguing scent when another, less attractive one mingled with it and made him crinkle his nose in disgust.

He stopped, lighting sniffing the air and making a disgusted face again at what he picked up: sweat, alcohol, and gunmetal. There was someone else out here tonight, and Darian skillfully faded back into the shadows, watching, waiting. Moments later, a pair of men--homeless drifters from the look of them--stumbled past him, laughing among themselves and passing an unlabeled bottle back and forth to each other. After a moment they'd walked out of Darian's line of sight, and he stepped back onto the path, watching after them.

Slowly, silently, he followed them, their path seemingly leading toward that same, unidentifiable scent that Darian had been tracking earlier. Suddenly the two men stopped in place, their voices dropping to hushed whispers that they thought nobody could hear. Of course, the vampire could make out their every word, and when they mentioned a blonde woman that they noticed up ahead. Tossing their bottle aside, they crept along quietly, hoping to take the woman by surprise. Frowning, Darian followed, that mysterious scent growing stronger with every step, until he too saw the woman that they'd spoken of in hushed tones.

She was stunning. That was the only word that came to Darian's mind when he saw her, sitting alone on the edge of the raised garden, her pale features illuminated by the soft flow of the moon. The her scent... It was the very same one that he'd been following, an intoxicating blend of everything sweet and fresh and alive that the vampire had ever smelled. She was certainly not human, that much seemed obvious to him...

Further musing on the woman was interrupted when the two drunk, ragged men stumbled closer to the garden, making cat-calls and shouting lewd comments at her. This sent Darian into a rage, and he strode silently into the small clearing, his eyes ablaze with disgust at the men's behavior. The first of the pair had just gotten close enough to reach out and try to touch her when Darian seemingly materialized behind him, grabbing his arm and easily twisting it into an unnatural angle with a sickening pop!. The man was too shocked to scream, and he simply stared at his mangled arm silently as Darian took a handful of his hair and opened his mouth, fangs descending as he prepared to drain the man dry.

The second vagabond, seeing what had been done to his companion, turned tail and ran, crying and babbling nonsensically, obviously very, very drunk. Ignoring him, Darian returned his full attention to the man in his grasp, closing his eyes and pressing his fangs against the warm flesh of the man's neck. He could practically taste the blood already, and though he'd drank his fill earlier, the vampire's bloodlust was never truly sated...

With every new story told, a faerie is born.

She'd just finished her cupcake, folded the wrapper and put it into a small pocket in her bag when out of the corner of her eye she saw a couple of men walking in her direction. She didn't think anything of it though as she had seen a couple of other people, on her way into the park, taking a stroll and so her attention returned to the stars.

As soon as she heard the clink of a bottle dropping to the ground, she hopped off the wall and whirled in the direction and noticed that another man had joined them. The two she'd seen originally looked petrified whereas the third man look menacing, dangerous.

Sapphire went to take a step forward but thought better of it, she didn't know what was happening and one of the original men looked in pain as his friend fled. Her gaze narrowed in on the third man and her eyes widened slightly. She saw his teeth and was quite shocked to discover that he was a vampire. She'd never met one before but she knew that he was the real thing, she could sense it about him as well as see his teeth.

Saff was starting to panic, her eyes filled with worry. fear and helplessness. She didn't want the man to die and she didn't want to die either, however, her concern for the man beat out her self-preservation and she called out, "Don't! Please, let him go. He's done nothing to harm me or you."

As ridiculous as it was, Sapphire was trying to make him see sense, to be the bigger man and release him, "He's not worth your time. I'm sure there is, "She swallows at this point, knowing that it probably sounds as if she's offering herself up as food. "..Someone classier, more refined."

It wasn't until she'd finished speaking that she realised she'd started walking backwards, around the flower bed to put more distance between herself, the vampire and the man. This showed she was petrified herself but that she still felt the need to help the man.

"I wish I stayed inside.." She whispered to herself as she watched the scene play out in front of her, through the leaves and twigs that one of the plants provided for her, giving her some cover. It was as if it were a barrier that, even though it wouldn’t offer any protection, made her feel safer to be behind it. Sapphire wasn’t so threatened that she would turn invisible but she felt that the situation, if she wasn’t careful enough, could become that way.

”Please, let him go and we can all resume this lovely evening as if nothing had…happened?” She questioned herself wondering why she thought it was a good idea to continue to appeal to the vampire’s better nature as she had many doubts that it would work.

→ i know i died that night

The hint of pleading in the woman's voice caused Darian to hesitate.

Luckily for her--and for the man writhing in his grasp--Darian had already fed earlier, so his bloodlust wasn't quite as strong as it could have been. He wasn't going to kill this man for sustenance, he was going to kill him to protect this woman, a fact that she apparently didn't realize, or didn't care about. Had Darian truly been hungry, though... then nothing would have stopped him. Nothing.

When the woman begged him again, Darian felt his grip on the man slipping, and eventually he released him with a low growl. The vagabond wasted no time in hightailing it out of there. Darian watched him go until he was out of sight, then he closed his eyes and forced himself to calm, willing his fangs to retract before he turned to face the woman again, opening his eyes and gazing steadily at her.

There was that smell again. It was wafting from the woman and driving Darian insane, but at the same time, it was having a calming effect on him as well. Breathing deeply, he closed his eyes, taking in her scent and sighing as he felt himself relax. Forcing himself to return his full attention to the stunning blonde, Darian opened his eyes once again and flashed her his most charming smile.

"Forgive me for my earlier behavior," he said smoothly, keeping his distance so as not to alarm her. "But those men meant to kill you, or worse, and I simply couldn't let that happen. My name is Darian, and I assure you, I am most pleased to make your acquaintance."

With every new story told, a faerie is born.

Sapphire clutched at the bag in her hands as if it were a life line and watched as the victim ran away once he'd been released. Her eyes were wide in shock as she stared at the vampire in entire disbelief as she hadn't truly believed that her words could dissuade him, especially if he was hungry.

Now, however, his sole focus was on her now and she knew she could never out-run him, "Thank you," She felt and looked slightly awkward as she spoke to him, fright evident in her eyes, "For letting him go."

Now she'd said that, Sapphire was unsure how she should move forward, her brain was screaming at her to leave but she couldn't see any possible way out. If she ran, he was too fast, if she turned invisible (which she truly felt like doing), he would be able to trace her scent. So all she could do was try and leave without drawing too much attention and with as little fuss as possible

After what seemed like a long deliberation, she decided to just walk away and hope that he would leave her alone. What she didn't expect was for him to make conversation with her.

"Forgive me for my earlier behavior...But those men meant to kill you, or worse, and I simply couldn't let that happen. My name is Darian, and I assure you, I am most pleased to make your acquaintance."

The charming, yet strangely, warm smile that he gave her, threw her off guard, so much so that she became a little speechless.

Of course, she couldn't take what he said at face value but the way it came across was earnest enough for her to doubt that his intentions were bad, "They were? I..I guess I should thank you then." His sincerity was incredibly believable, that she couldn't help but feel she should give him the benefit of the doubt, though her guard was still up. "Well, Darian, it's a pleasure to meet you too, I'm Sapphire."

→ i know i died that night

When Sapphire said his name, Darian blinked, a strange feeling settling over him.

How did she know his name was Darian? Hadn't he introduced himself as-- His eyes widened when he realized the mistake he'd made. He had told the woman his real name, a name that he rarely used, and never with complete strangers. Always he introduced himself as Adrien Tepes, the name that he used in all of his business transactions, the name that he'd taken as his new identity, since "Darian Raniari" was supposed to be dead. Why he'd given Sapphire his true name, Darian didn't know, but there was nothing for it now.

Letting his smile slide smoothly back into place, Darian offered the stunning woman his arm.

"Your thanks would be appreciated," he told her with a wink, "but not nearly as appreciated as your company. Walk with me. Please? I must admit that I find you... intoxicating, and can't imagine exploring this wondrous place without you at my side."

His words were true, though there was another, underlying reason for desiring Sapphire's company: curiosity. He still didn't know what exactly she was, and there were very few things in the world that Darian was ignorant of. Her beauty, her mystery, and her very scent had all conspired to enrapture the vampire, and he desired her company more than he'd truly desired anything in a very, very long time.

Frowning a bit, he realized that wasn't entirely true... There was his revenge, after all. He longed for it, thirsted for it, needed it more than he'd ever needed anything. His long, torturous years in the dark all came rushing back to him then, wrapping him in a shadow of fear that he couldn't shake. With that fear came the hate, and with the hate came anger. Anger that had sustained him until he'd managed to escape, until he'd been free to wander the world and build up his resources and his power base. Now he had everything he needed to get his revenge...

Strangely enough, he found his usual overwhelming, blinding desire for vengeance subdued in the presence of this woman. The darkness was still there, swirling around him, but it was as if she was a beacon of light that he could see just beyond the shadows, and he clung to that light as if his life--or his sanity--depended on it.

Realizing that he'd been staring at Sapphire this entire time, Darian lowered his eyes, feeling suddenly self-conscious, something that he wasn't used to.

"Ah... forgive me," he said, his voice soft, eyes still downcast. "I find myself uncharacteristically at a loss for words around you..."

With every new story told, a faerie is born.

There was something about him, other than the fact that he was a vampire, that was compelling and intriguing her even though every one of her instincts was telling her it was time to get out and get as far away from him as possible.

"Your thanks would be appreciated but not nearly as appreciated as your company. Walk with me. Please? I must admit that I find you... intoxicating, and can't imagine exploring this wondrous place without you at my side."

Sapphire had started to walk away, at least that's what she was telling herself but as he started to talk, she was hooked. It wasn't just the aura he was giving off but it was the way he looked, sharply dressed, angular face and had such compelling eyes.

Darian ultimately helped with her decision to stay with the way he spoke, a smoothness to his voice that relaxed her against her will, and with his thank you’s and compliments all of which had her blushing furiously, especially when he threw a wink in her direction.

"I-I-I'm not sure. I really ought to be getting back." Her voice was quiet but it still carried, however, she realised that he seemed to be not paying attention even though he was looking her direction. No, he was not looking her direction, he was staring at her.

It worried her more than a little, long stares were never comfortable and one coming from a vampire made her feel more awkward and more than a little scared. She shifted slightly, from one foot to the other but stopped quickly as her heels made a sound. Sapphire really didn't want anything to happen to herself, innocent bystanders or even Darian and although she felt incredibly uncomfortable from his stare, she returned it with one of her own.

"Ah... forgive me, I find myself uncharacteristically at a loss for words around you..."

Sapphire was in shock. From what she'd heard and read about vampires, they rarely felt guilty about anything whether it's something they've said and/or done so when he physically portrayed signs of embarrassment and being self-conscious.

That was it, as soon as she realised how he was feeling, she softened a little and knew she had to get to know him better, talk to him and find out more about anything and everything, maybe it would help her fit into society more.

And so, against better judgement, against all of her instincts, particularly her fight or flight instinct, she walked over to him slowly, focussing on the sound of her heel and shyly took his arm in a way of accepting his apology.

She tilted her head to look at him and gave a small soft smile, "Shall we walk?"

→ i know i died that night

A genuine smile lit up Darian's features as the woman accepted his arm.

Nodding to her, he began walking silently along, keeping his pace slow so she could easily keep up with him. As they went, Darian's heightened senses took in everything around him: the way the moon and starlight glittered on the leaves and petals of the flowers, the soft sounds of other couples wandering the gardens, and the combination of a thousand different smells, the sweetest of which emanated from the beauty at his side.

He couldn't help but feel good with Sapphire on his arm. Truthfully, Darian was no stranger to having a gorgeous woman accompany him places. He was a billionaire, after all, and not bad looking either, a combination that drew women to him like metal to a magnet. And, more often than not, Darian ended their evenings together by draining the woman dry and having her body disposed of somewhere that it would never be found...

The thought of doing such a thing to Sapphire, though, seemed utterly barbaric. He'd no sooner harm her than he'd harm himself, which was a strange feeling for Darian. For a long time he'd been completely selfish and self-absorbed, not caring a thing for anyone else. Years ago--though it felt more like ages--he knew that he'd cared about his brother, and his sister, and his best friend... But he couldn't exactly remember what it had felt like...

Shaking his head to clear it of those uncomfortable thoughts, Darian let himself relax a bit and turned his attention to Sapphire.

"Tell me a little about yourself, if that isn't too forward of me to ask," he said lightly, pausing for a moment to close his eyes and breath in the scents swirling around him. Sighing and smiling he continued on with her, letting go of his business concerns and his vendetta for at least one night of honest enjoyment.

With every new story told, a faerie is born.

She caught the smile that spread across his face when she took his arm and couldn't help the warm, proud feeling that spread throughout her. Sapphire had a feeling that he didn't smile often and to have him smile just because she took his harm, well, it made her happy.

At night the flowers held a different kind of beauty, some looking darker and sinister which contrasts with their innocence and beauty in day light which made her smile. They're like some human's in some ways. People appear to be something during the day but as soon as night comes around, they change. It was strange, she thought, to be able to go from one extreme to the other without a second thought, without a care for consequences or the heartbreak it may cause.

"Tell me a little about yourself, if that isn't too forward of me to ask,"

The blonde was brought out of her thoughts and turned her face towards him, the moonlight highlighting the happiness that her eyes conveyed, "No, it's not too forward at all. I believe that it is what most acquaintances ask as they try to get to know each other," She smiled at him, before turning her attention back to the path in front of them and nibbled her lip in thought. "What would you like to know? I believe there is a lot I could say but I don't think all of it will interest you."

She wasn't entirely sure how it happened, she supposed it must have been a stray stone and a miss-step on her part but her ankle gave way, causing her to stop their process as she gripped his arm tighter to stop herself from falling and as soon as she righted herself, she looked at him with wide eyes, her mouth opening and closing a couple of times as a pale pink coloured spread across her cheeks.

"I am so sorry! I honestly don't know what happened. You must think I am incredibly clumsy..."

Sapphire trailed off and started to walk on again, remaining silent for a few minutes as she tried to get rid of her blush, "I was born in Cornwall, England and I have no siblings. Although my biological family is small, the community I was brought up in was very much the extended family. We all looked after each other and aided each other whenever it was needed." Sapphire glanced at him then and smiled shyly, "Also, I don't have a favourite colour as I like them all equally."

She stopped there, not entirely sure what else she should say or what Darian would say.

"I believe it is proper for you to say something about yourself now?"

→ i know i died that night

Darian’s heart skipped a bit when Sapphire turned her smile on him.

For a moment, he simply couldn’t speak, finding every bit of his mind focused on the task of simply studying her, taking in every detail of her face, the way the light breeze stirred her hair, the warmth in her voice… Shaking his head a bit to clear it, he graced her with a smile of his own and listened to her words, their sound like music to his ears.

When Sapphire’s step faltered, Darian was so lost in the sound of her voice that even with his vampiric reflexes he wasn’t able to catch her in time. Luckily, she held tighter to his arm, pulling herself closer—whether consciously or unconsciously—and keeping herself from falling. A soft gasp escaped her lips, and she blinked up at him, eyes wide, cheeks coloring slightly as her mouth worked at words that never formed.

“Clumsy is certainly not the word I would use to describe you right now,” Darian said softly in response to Sapphire’s apology, his eyes locked on hers before looking away self-consciously, surprised at himself.

Clearing his throat a bit, he led them along again, listening with interest to Sapphire’s words as she spoke of her childhood. It sounded wonderful, really, being surrounded by an entire community that loved and protected you. It was a concept that Darian honestly couldn’t wrap his mind around, something utterly alien and impossible, a true fairy tale existence. Darian had never known anyone to really care for him, and those that he’d thought did had, in the end, forgotten and betrayed him, leaving him to suffer starvation and madness in the dark…

Before his anger could overwhelm him, Sapphire’s voice cut through the encroaching madness and, remarkably, seemed to pull him out of it.

It took him a moment to realize what it was that she’d asked, that she was interested now in hearing about his past. That, for obvious reasons, was a delicate subject for Darian. The earliest days of his memory, when he’d been a carefree child, safe with his family and friends, seemed so far away and distant, that he could scarcely believe they were even his experiences any more. Still, he owed Sapphire something, and for whatever reason, he found himself incapable of lying to her.

“I was… born in France,” he began slowly, the words feeling strange in his mouth. “I grew up in a small estate in the country, called ‘Gryphon’s Hollow’ with my… my parents, and my little brother and sister.” The vampire paused there, brow furrowing, surprised by how much more difficult this was then he’d thought it would be.

After walking on in silence for what felt like a long time, he forced a light smile and finally finished with, “I’m afraid it isn’t really the sort of story you’d want to hear. Forgive me.”

' “Clumsy is certainly not the word I would use to describe you right now,” ' His compliment was replaying itself over and over again in her head, making the blush that she had managed to make disappear, come back in full force and stain her cheeks again. It pleased her that he seemed to like her and not find her to be an annoyance or embarrassed by her. It was the first time someone. A stranger had paid her compliments but a voice in the back of her head carried on niggling away at her, telling her he’s a vampire and will most likely be using charm to lull her into a false sense of security. However, said voice was quickly quieted by her optimism that he liked her for her, not for being a next meal.

Sapphire looked at him again and started to frown slightly, wondering if she offended him with her question but before she could even apologise, he started to speak about himself, slowly as if he was unsure if he should be saying anything at all.

“I was… born in France. I grew up in a small estate in the country, called ‘Gryphon’s Hollow’ with my… my parents, and my little brother and sister.”

She started to smile, glad that he was willing to share something about himself with her and was even more happy that he was not a lonely child. So, when he fell silent, she assumed it was because he was thinking of what else to tell her, choosing memories to share.

“I’m afraid it isn’t really the sort of story you’d want to hear. Forgive me.”

The blonde frowned slightly but wiped her face of the confusion quickly, knowing it wasn't her place to pry or to force him to tell her. However, it wasn't just her morals that made her stop from pushing him but also her sense of self-preservation. The last thing she would want to happen is to enrage him by continuously asking questions, forcing him to lash out. No, that would not be a good idea.

" There is no need to forgive you. You haven't done anything wrong. You should only tell what you most feel comfortable telling. I do not wish to seem as if I am prying." Her teeth worried her lower lip as she glanced down, thinking about what else could be said.

Silence seemed to play a big part in their conversation but Sapphire didn't mind it, she didn't feel awkward this time, "What is your favourite colour and place?"

The silence that had fallen between them wasn’t strained at all, rather, it was peaceful.

There was something about an unforced, casual quiet that was not to be taken for granted. So often, when people were uncomfortable around each other, they filled the silence with inane conversation that only worked to heighten the discomfort. It was rare to find someone with whom silence could be just as intriguing as actual conversation, but it seemed like Darian had found such a person in Sapphire.

So lost was he in his own thoughts that he almost didn’t hear her question.

It was actually a difficult question to answer, in part. After he’d built his financial empire up to the point where he could afford it, Darian had immediately sprung for his jet, having always wanted to see the world, but having always been chained down by his duties and responsibilities as a hunter. Now, with all of that behind him, he was free to go wherever he wanted, and he often did just that. So when it came to his favorite place, no one certain place really came to mind.

“As far as my favorite color is concerned,” he began, speaking softly as he walked along with her through the gardens, “it would have to be red.” He glanced at her and smiled a bit, adding, “And that isn’t just because it’s the color of blood, either.” He laughed softly and gave her a quick wink before going back to thinking about his favorite place.

“The second part of your question is a bit more difficult to answer, I’m afraid,” he told her honestly. “I’ve been many places, some stunningly wonderful, and others not so much… But if I had to pick one certain place that stood out for me, I would have to say… Here. Right now, with you.”

Sapphire glanced over to Darian and smiled slightly at his response. She believed him when he said that red was his favourite colour but not because of the obvious link to blood. The colour suited him, she supposed, it had a darkness and strength about it, which Darian exuded yet it was controlled and so it did not scare her.

“The second part of your question is a bit more difficult to answer, I’m afraid, I’ve been many places, some stunningly wonderful, and others not so much… But if I had to pick one certain place that stood out for me, I would have to say… Here. Right now, with you.”

Sapphire's cheeks quickly became very pink, her head turning away from him quickly as embarrassment took over.

The blonde had not been around any species other than faeries and they were all like family to her so the compliments were quite generic, "Although it is very kind of you to say that to me, you don't have to." The faerie looked back at him through her eyelashes, "It would not offend me if you told the truth, after all, how can I believe you? We've just met."

As she looked in front of her, she noticed that the plants were getting wilder and many benches were dotted around some getting hidden by the foliage. Sapphire’s gaze continued to sweep the vicinity before she finally spotted a bench nestled cosily within a shaped holly bush. She smiled softly, spotting the red berries and smoothly altered their direction towards the holly.

She unhooked her arm from his and gently reached out and captured a holly leaf between her thumb and forefinger, rubbing it slightly before letting go and settling herself on the bench, crossing her legs, quite glad for the little rest.

"Where is it you're staying, Darian, assuming you are here on business?"

It was quite an assumption but she was genuinely curious, the hotels that she'd seen didn't seem to be up to the standards she assumed Darian to have, so other than passing through or having his own abode add to the fact that he was dressed incredibly smart, Sapphire thought it was definitely a safe option to assume he was in Boston for business.

She was simply captivating.

Darian found himself speechless in her presence at times, which was an altogether new and slightly disturbing feeling for the usually suave and ever-confident vampire. And, truthfully, he wasn't really sure what it was about her... She was stunningly beautiful, yes, but he'd spent a great deal of time around beautiful women, and none of them had caught his attention like she had. And, of course, there was her scent, which was not only very, very inhuman, but absolutely intoxicating as well.

"I am telling you the truth," he reassured her with a light chuckle, taking a seat on the bench near her. "I've found that it isn't so much the places you've seen, as it is the person you've seen them with." He shrugged, leaning back and stretching his arms along the back of the bench. "A place is just a place, after all..."

Closing his eyes, the vampire felt himself relaxing in her presence, the adrenaline from his earlier encounter starting to die down, and the pounding of blood in his ears fading more and more with each passing moment. He was incredibly curious about what she was, and whether or not he was in danger in her presence, but he couldn't quite bring himself to ask her, as it seemed somehow... rude?

All in good time... he thought to himself.

"Ah, actually I'm staying at the Ritz Carlton, just across the street," he answered with an absent gesture in the general direction of the hotel. "It's where I usually stay when I'm in Boston. It's perfectly located, with the Gardens here, and the Theater and Financial districts so close." He smiled, adding, "Equal parts business and pleasure that way."

Tilting his head back, Darian gazed up silently at the stars as silence fell between them once again. Finally he spoke, though his eyes never left the display of the night sky.

"And you? Where are you staying, if you don't mind my asking?"
