Dean is driving to their next job. Sam is reading his e-mails. All of a sudden Dean hears a sound like a gunshot. Sam asks,"What the hell was that?" Dean answers,"Gee your the one with the psychic powers Cleo!" Sam responds,"That's really funny Dean. Why don't you pull over and check the car. Maybe you blew a tire or something." Dean pulls over and shuts the car off. They both get out.Dean looks the car over and notices that he's definetly got a flat. Dean says,"Son of a bitch. It's like 110 degrees and this isn't like Texas where its the dry heat." Sam asks,"Are you going to stand there, rant and rave or change the tire?" Dean takes his jacket off and throws it in the back seat of the impala. He rolls his eyes and responds,"Change the freaking tire. Damn it!" Sam sarcastically says,"You're ranting and raving." Dean asks,"Oh excuse me. Am I freaking disturbing you from what ever you're doing?" Sam smiles and answers,"Yeah.You're disturbing me reading my e-mails." Dean says,"Great we have a freaking flat and he's reading his damn e-mails. Like thats more important." Sam replies,"Well it's important to me Dean." Dean embraces the jack under the car and starts pumping the handle as the car lifts slowly off the ground. Dean asks,"Hey are you going to help me?" Sam smiles and asks,"What's the matter Dean? You can't handle it by yourself?" Dean answers,"Of course I can handle it. I just thought that we would get it done a lot quicker if we did this together." As Dean gets the spare tire out of the trunk a car pulls over with two guys in the car. They look alike so Dean thinks 'great two more brothers.' The older one walks over and says,"Hey looks like you can use another hand. I'm Ed McCoy and that over there is my younger brother Josh McCoy. Here let me help you..." Dean puts his hand out and shakes Ed's hand and says,"Thanks. Dean Winchester and the geek over there with your brother is my younger brother Sam." They both shake hands and go back to changing the tire.

Meanwhile Sam and Josh are talking. Josh says,"It looks like Ed likes your friend." Sam responds,"He's not my friend. Dean is my big brother. Hi! I'm Sam." Sam goes to reach out to shake Josh's hand and Josh shields his face. Sam asks,"Are you alright? I was only going to shake your hand." Josh puts his hand down and shakes Sam's hand and says,"My names Josh." Sam asks,"Did someone hurt you?" Josh changes the subject and asks,"So checking e-mails huh?" Sam responds,"Yeah." Josh says,"It must be nice to have friends. Ed's got a lot of friends." Sam asks,"What about you Josh? I bet you have a lot of friends too." Josh looks down and answers,"I'm not allowed to have friends Sam. Just Ed." Sam looking puzzled asks,"Why? As far as I know there isn't a law against having friends." Josh responds,"Ed says I'm dumb and no one likes me. If I try to make a friend Ed..." Sam notices that Josh is getting really angry and scared. He asks,"What does Ed do?" Josh answers,"I can't tell. Its a secret." Sam says,"Well I would like to be your friend Josh." Josh starts to panic and says,"No! No Sam. No friends!" Dean and Ed notice the comotion. Sam touches Josh's shoulder and Josh yells,"Ow. That hurts! You're hurting me. You're just like Ed." Sam asks,"What does he do to you? Maybe I can help." Josh nods his head no. Sam says,"Ok. Here sit down. Let me check that shoulder out. Did you bump it or something?" Josh answers,"Yeah. Thats what happened I bumped it." Sam looks at Josh's shoulder and notices finger marks. Sam asks,"Are you sure that you didn't get into a fight or something? " Josh smiles and says,"No! I was being punished." He asks,"By who? Your mom or dad?" Josh smiles and answers,"No! Ed is all the family I have." Sam gulps and asks,"You mean your brother did this to you?" Josh doesn't answer. Sam thinking'that bastard.'

The tire is changed and both brothers come over. Dean notices that Sam is very angry and asks,"You alright?" Sam responds,"Not really." Dean asks,"Why what's wrong?" Sam looks at Ed and responds,"Nothing. We'll talk later." Ed starts yelling at Josh and asks,"Ok. What the hell did you do to him?" Josh with fear in his eyes doesn't answer. Dean grabs Ed by the arm and says,"Hey man thats your brother. Take it easy." Ed responds,"You stay the hell out of this. He's my cross to bare." Dean's getting angry says,"Excuse me? He's your what?" Ed answers,"Josh is my damn cross to bare. Ever since..." Dean asks,"Ever since what?" Ed answers,"Its none of your freaking business." Sam speaks up and says,"Well I'm making it my business. What are you doing to Josh?" Ed responds,"Not a freaking thing geek boy!" Dean grabs Ed by his shirt and says,"Don't you ever talk to my brother that way. You treat him with respect. You hear me? When you talk to my brother its like you're talking to me and I don't like it when people disrespect me. Am I making myself clear or so help me god!" Ed answers,"Yeah. Lets go Josh." They start to walk away and you hear Ed say,"You're in for a beating boy. I can't wait." Josh screams,"No Ed. Not that! Please!" They both get in Ed's car and Ed drives away.

In the car Sam is really quiet. Dean asks,"Ok. You haven't spoken two words since we left. Whats wrong Sammy?" Sam doesn't correct Dean so Dean knows somethings wrong. Sam answers,"Do you think that I'm your cross to bare Dean? Be honest." Dean responds,"You're not a cross you're just a freaking pain in the ass Sammy." Sam responds,"You know its my fault that mom's dead don't you?" Dean looks over at Sam and says,"Its not your fault Sam. You had nothing to do with it. Man you were only 6 months old. You couldn't do squat but lay there and look cute." Sam replies,"Ed beats his brother Dean." Dean asks,"How do you know that Sammy? Did Josh tell you that?" Sam answers,"No! Not exactly. But I saw..." Dean looking more concerned asks,"You saw what?" Sam has tears in his eyes and gets choked up responds,"I saw the finger marks on his shoulder." Dean parks the car. Dean says,"I'm sorry Sam. Maybe we can go check on him." Sam answers,"Do you ever want to do that to me?" Dean responds,"Never. Like I said you're a pain in the ass but we're brothers and I would die for you man. I love you Sam." Sam asks,"After everything I put you through? Even after I almost killed you at the asylum?" Dean answers,"Look don't forget you're the one who saved my ass when I got electrocuted. I wouldn't be alive today if it weren't for you. We are there for each other and thats how its going to be until we die. You hear me little brother? After all we are family. Plus I promised..." Sam looking puzzled asks,"Who or what did you promise? Finish it Dean." Dean gets choked up and responds,"Nothing. Forget it."

It's the middle of the night and Sam and Dean are sleeping. Suddenly Sam has a vision. He sees Josh getting a beating and crying. He hears Ed says,"Its all your fault that she's dead. It should have been you not her." Sam sees Ed throwing his brother up against the wall. Josh pleading for Ed to stop. Then Josh is running away and then disappears. Sam yells,"Josh no!" He springs up from his bed. Dean runs over to Sam to see what is wrong.He sits on Sam's bed and asks,"Hey man are you alright?" Sam answers,"Yeah. I mean no!" Dean confused responds,"Well which is it? Yes or no?" Sam responds,"Dean I had a vision. It was awful." Sam is trembling. Dean says,"Ok Sam. Tell me everything that you saw." Sam responds,"Well I saw Josh being beaten by Ed. Ed kept saying it was his fault. That it should have been him not her. Then he threw Josh up against the wall. Josh got free and ran away and then... then..." Dean asks,"Then what Sammy?" Sam answers,"Then Josh just disappeared." Dean says,"Look you get some rest and we'll both go and check on Josh in the morning. Ok?" Sam responds,"Ok." Sam lays back down. Dean sits up and channel surfs until he knows that Sam is sound a sleep. Then he lays back down and drifts off to sleep too.

Dean pulls up to the McCoy residence. Ed is calling,"Josh! Where are you?" Dean and Sam go to check out what's going on. Dean asks,"What's going on Ed?" Ed says,"I started...And he ran away." Sam asks, "Started what Ed?" Dean says,"Answer him man!" Ed responds,"I didn't mean too... He made me angry. He always makes me angry." Sam grabs Ed by the shirt and asks,"You started beating him didn't you...Didn't you!" Dean pulls Sam away. Dean says,"Easy Sam." Ed yells, "Yes. I beat his ass. It felt so good. I couldn't stop.?" Dean says,"You son of a bitch. You're suppose to take care of your brother. He looks up to you man. God help him." Then Dean punches Ed in the face and knocks him on his ass. Dean asks,"Which way did he go?" Ed wiping the blood from his mouth with the back of his hand answers,"He headed for the woods. I swear when I find that bastard I'll..." Sam grabs him by the shirt,gets in his face and asks,"You'll do what you bastard?" Dean says,"Come on Sam we have to find Josh." Ed responds,"Don't bother because he's afraid of the dark. He's a gonner." Sam goes to hit Ed and Dean says"No. Allow me." Sam backs away. As Dean is about to hit Ed again Sam catches Dean's fist and says,"Look we only have 2 hours of daylight left. We shouldn't waste it." Dean agrees,"You're right Sam." He grabs Ed by the neck and says,"Lets go you sick bastard. You're going to help us look for Josh." Ed asks,"Why in the hell would I want to do something so stupid like that?" Dean answers,"Cause if you don't I'm going to kick your freaking ass and then I'm going to beat the crap out of you. I'll leave the decision up to you my friend and I use the term friend loosely." Ed says,"I guess I'll help."Dean smiles and responds,"I thought that you would see it my way." Sam smiles and is thinking'man am I glad that Dean doesn't get that pist at me.' Dean asks,"Well what are you waiting for an invitation? Move it!"They all head for the woods.

In the woods you hear everyone yelling,"Josh...Josh..." Sam says,"Look we can cover more area if we split up." Dean responds,"Ok. Sam you go to the right and we'll take the left." Ed asks,"We'll?" Dean smiles and says,"Yes. Me and you. I mean after all you didn't think that I would trust you with my brother do you?" Ed answers, "So I get stuck with you?" Dean responds, sarcastically"No I get stuck with you. Now move your freaking ass. You're wasting time!" Sam yells,"Josh its Sam. Come on man. I'm not going to hurt you." Nothing. Dean says,"I don't hear anything Ed." Ed asks,"What do you mean by that?" Dean says,"I believe your brother's got a name. Start calling." Ed asks,"Do you honestly think he would answer if I called him? I don't freaking think so." Dean says,"Good point.You just follow and shut your damn mouth." Sam again calls,"Josh...Josh" All of a sudden over the cliff Sam hears some noise.He looks over the cliff and there's Josh. Sam asks,"Josh. Are you alright?" Josh doesn't answer. Sam pulls out his cell and calls Dean. Dean answers his phone. Dean says,"Yeah Sammy whatcha got?!" Sam answers,"Dean I've found Josh." Dean responds,"Good work Sam. Where are you?" Sam replies,"Over by the cliff to the east. Dean Josh doesn't look good." Dean says,"We'll be there in 5 minutes Sammy. Is Josh moving?" Sam responds,"No. Man Dean please, just hurry. I'm going to try and make my way down to him." Dean says,"Look Sam you stay right where you're at. Just keep trying to communicate and comfort him from where you are. Promise me that you'll wait until I get there." Sam responds,"Ok I promise." Dean shuts his cell and puts it back in his pocket. Dean says,"Sam's found your brother. Now listen and listen good. Your brother fell off the cliff and we're not sure how bad he's hurt. I want you to be on your best behavior. Do you understand me or I will push you off the cliff and leave your sorry ass there to die and let the animals pick at your freaking bones. Do we understand each other?" Ed nods his head yes. Dean sarcastically says,"Excuse me. I didn't hear you." Ed responds,"Yes. I understand." Dean taps Ed in the face and says,"Good boy! Because I don't have time to hurt you right now." They both head to the cliff

Sam says,"Hang in there Josh. Help is on the way. I'm right here." Josh just moans. Sam says,"Let me tell you a story. I"ll tell you what a real brother is. Now my big brother Dean is a true brother. No matter what I do wrong he always over looks it. He shows that he cares and loves me every day. I wouldn't know what to do without Dean. He's even saved me from getting killed. When I have my nightmares he comforts me. He also makes me laugh." Dean and Ed have shown up. Dean looks over the cliff. He says,"Alright I'm going to work my way down to check him out." Sam insists,"I'm going too." Dean looks at Sam and says,"No! Sam I need you here." Sam pleads,"Please Dean he knows me." Dean gives in and answers,"Alright. Ed you go home and call 911 and tell them where we are. If they aren't here in 45 minutes I'm coming after you. Do you understand?" Ed answers,"Yeah." Sam and Dean make it down to Josh. Sam takes his jacket off and goes to place it under Josh's neck but Dean says,"Not yet. We have to make sure that he didn't break his neck." Sam responds,"Sorry!" Dean says,"Its alright Sam. Let me check.Ok his neck is fine. Go ahead Sam." Sam places the jacket under Josh's head very gently. Josh comes to and notices Dean and says,"Don't hurt me." Dean responds,"It's alright Josh. I'm not here to hurt you, I'm here to help you." Josh tries to back away from Dean. Instead Dean backs away because he can see how scared Josh is. Dean takes Sam aside. He says,"Sam I need to check him over but he can't move while I do that. You think you can talk to him into getting to trust me?" Sam smiles and answers,"I'll try." Dean stays away while Sam talks to Josh. Sam says,"Hey Josh. Look my brother knows a lot about medical stuff. Now I'll be right here. Dean is not going to hurt you. Now I trust Dean with my life. He really wants to help you." Dean smiles at Josh. Josh replies,"No Sam. I'm afraid." Sam says,"I'll be right back. Ok bud?" Josh nods his head yes. Dean asks,"So is it ok?" Sam answers,"No. He's really scared Dean. Look I have an idea." Dean says,"Ok. What is it?" Sam responds,"Well how about I trip and pretend to twist my ankle and you take care of me. " Dean says,"I see where you're going with this. Smart thinking college boy." Sam starts to walk back over to Josh and falls. Dean yells,"Sammy? Are you alright?" Sam holding his ankle responds,"Man I think its my ankle." Dean goes to help Sam as planned but Josh yells,'Stay away from my friend." Dean puts his two hands out like alright and stops dead in his tracks. Sam says,"Josh its ok. Dean's taken care of me before. Please Josh I need Dean to help me." Dean asks,"Is it ok Josh?" Dean trying to win Josh's trust. Josh can see that Sam is in a lot of pain and answers,"Go ahead." Dean kneels down and starts to check out Sam's ankle. Sam responds,"Right there. It hurts a little." Dean says,"Sorry Sam I didn't mean to hurt you." Sam replies,"I know." Dean smiles and says,"You just twisted it. Can you stand?" Sam stands and Dean says,"Put all your weight on my neck. I'll help you over to Josh." Sam hops over to Josh with Dean's help. Dean sits Sam down.

In the background you hear the music "Knockin On Heaven's Door" By Guns And Roses


Dean asks,"Is it alright to check you Josh?" Josh looks at Sam. Sam smiles and nods his head yes. Josh responds,"Yeah." Dean says,"Now if I touch something that hurts you just let me know. I promise not to hurt you on purpose.Ok?" Josh nods yes. Dean's thinking'good job Sam.' As Dean is checking Josh he notices that Josh's ribs are broken. His right leg is broken." Sam says,"Dean..." Dean looks up and Sam points to blood coming out of Josh's ears and the back of his head. Dean takes off his shirt and puts it on the back of Josh's head. He adds pressure on it. Josh says,"That hurts." Dean responds,"Yeah I know Josh. I have to apply pressure to stop the bleeding." Dean looks over at Sam and nods his head no. Sam understands that Josh is dieing. Josh says,"Dean I'm sure glad that I met you. Sam is right. You are a good brother. I wish you were my brother but I know thats not possible. I mean not being from the same family and all." Dean responds, all choked up"You know Josh, you don't have to be blood related to be brothers. I know how about I adopt you as my brother without the adoption papers?" Josh looks over at Sam and asks,"Is that Ok with you Sam?" Sam has a tear coming down his cheek and answers,"I think thats a swell idea. Welcome to the Winchester family little brother." Josh smiles and asks,"You mean it? I'm a Winchester?"" Dean says," Yes Josh. We wouldn't have it any other way Josh." They're both holding Josh's hands. Dean says,"I want you to know something very special about yourself Josh and never forget it." Josh asks,"What's that Dean?" Dean choked up with tears running down his cheeks says,"That you Josh McCoy Winchester are very special and that we love you very,very much." Josh asks,"Really ? Because I've never been loved before." Sam answers,"We only say what we mean Josh." Josh smiles and says,"So we can go camping,fishing and all that stuff that brother's do? Sam choked up answers,"Yeah Josh. But you need to get well first." Josh says,"I'm getting tired." They both in unison, "You rest." Josh closes his eyes and drifts off to sleep. All of a sudden Josh stops breathing. Dean lifts his head and cries on Josh's shoulders. Sam says,"You're free Josh. Go home." The EMT's get there.One of them checks Josh and nods his head no to Dean. The EMT says,"I'm sorry he's gone. We're too late." Dean and Sam leave Josh with the EMT's and head back to the McCoy residence where the real evil resides.

Ed is sitting on the porch with his head in his hand. Sam and Dean walk up the steps. Ed asks,"So how's Josh?" Sam says,"He's gone Ed." Ed looking puzzled asks,"What do you mean gone?" Dean choked up answers,"He's dead man. Sorry." Ed responds,"He can't be. I mean he always runs away. He'll be fine. You'll see." Dean puts his hand on Ed's shoulder and says,"He's not coming home. There was nothing we could do. At least he didn't die alone. We both were there with him." Ed starts laughing and jokingly responds,"Alright. you've made your point. You scared the hell out of the big bad brother. Now all kidding a side. How's my brother?" Dean realizes that Ed isn't comprehending what they are telling him. He shakes his head no. He says,"I told you he's gone." Then Ed starts flipping out and goes after Dean with his fists and says,"You killed him. You think its alright for your brother to live? " Sam grabs Ed off of Dean. He says,"Dean did everything humanly possible to help your brother. You're the reason Josh is dead not Dean's you son of a bitch. Did you hate him that much?" Dean asks,"Why did you hate your brother so much?" Ed with anger in his voice answers,"Because he killed our mother. It should have been Josh not mom!" Dean asks,"How did Josh kill your mother?" Ed answers,"She gave him life. My mother died giving birth to Josh." Sam says, sarcastically "Well you don't have to worry about Josh any more. He's out of your life for ever you bastard." Ed thinks and responds,"You know what? You're right. I'm finally free." Sam asks,"What?" Ed says,"I'm free to do what I want. Yes." Dean knocks Ed up against the house panel with his arm against Ed's throat and says,"Listen you son of a bitch. Josh was more of a man than you will ever be. Just think now you are going to be alone for the rest of your life. You know something? I pity you." Ed asks,"Why?" Dean says,"Because you're never going to know what it truly means to be a brother. No respect,No love and no compassion. I wouldn't trade places with you for all the freaking money in the world. I'm glad I have my brother. If anyone or anything tries to hurt him they'll have to come through me first. You see? I'm the lucky one. Let's get out of here Sam. I think I'm going to be sick!" They both leave. On the way to the car Dean says, "You know Sam? We hunt evil everyday but its the live evil we need to worry about like Ed and others like him." Sam responds,"I couldn't agree with you more."

At the motel Sam is sound a sleep. Dean just stands there and watches Sam sleep. Remembering all the time he's spent with his brother. Sam starts moaning. Dean says,"Its ok Sam. I'm right here little brother. Just sleep." Before Dean falls a sleep in the motel chair next to Sam's bed, he says,"Thankyou lord for giving me the best little brother in the world. I am truly blessed." Then he falls a sleep. Sam wakes up and notices Dean sleeping in the chair. He gets up and nudges Dean and says,"Come on Dean. Lets get you in bed." Dean half sleeping answers,"But I'm not tired Sam!" Sam smiles and responds,"I know. Here just lay down on the bed." Dean does and falls half a sleep. Sam says,"I love ya Dean." Dean mumbles,"I love ya too Sammy." Sam smiles and responds,"Thats Sam." Dean mumbles,"Whatever." Then they both nod off.

that was so sad poor Josh, glad he got to be a Winchester though. Gonna ring my big bro now and tell him I love him. Birdie x
