Just had email from very good friend who lost around 25K of her novel when her puter got hungry. She didn't have it backed up so now has to start over.

So...from now on, Wednesday is back up your WIP day.

Email yourself a copy.

Email a friend or family member a copy.

Print out a hard copy and stick it in a file somewhere.

Back up to a cd. (Or two.)

Use a flash drive. (Less than $10 for a 2 gig at Walmart.)

Use one of those online back up services. There are some free ones out there along with those that cost.

Also...figure out how to use your auto save. Be sure to set it to auto save on a regular basis. Mine is set for every 5 minutes.

Don't let this happen to you.

Good idea. I have to tell you, the best part about being married to a computer geek is that this isn't likely to happen to me.

We run backups every night. He also uses MOZY--which stores our data remotely in case we have a fire and the computers are destroyed. Personally, for as little as it costs, it sure seems worth it.

That is an excellent idea. You are such a smart troll!

I usually back up mine at the end of the week. (My photos too).

I email myself a copy and then put it in an email file.

I also save it on at least two flash drives.

(But sometimes I am bad and let it go two weeks between saves.)

Really, I think I am sort of paranoid because I do everything on the laptop ... and if anything happens to it (damage, theft, etc) I want to have back up.

Suppose I should be more diligent.
