He has an overactive imagination, which he often uses in order to distract himself from duties and responsibilities. He is usually that boy who prefers to sit in the corner of the classroom, jotting poetry on the inside of his binder and smiling to himself while suppressing his laughter; or the type who is calm and thoughtful and will hesitate before embarking in on conversation or contributing his input. Nikola would prefer to sit down and think about something before immediately jumping into it, which is why he is also poor at making quick decisions. He finds it difficult to think under pressure, which is why he goes out of his way to limit his responsibilities, doing just the bare minimum is certainly enough to keep himself from becoming overwhelmed. He also finds it hard to partake in interaction with others without seeming nonchalant or even bored due to so many years of being independent. Of course there are ways to spark his interest, one way is to certainly go on about any folklore or interesting mythology and you will posses the key to his heart and he will infact open up. However, for the most part, Nikola is very careful about who he lets into his world, he has a bit of paranoia when it comes to people and is selective about who he be-friends. There is also the cheeky side to Nikola, many people often mistake his quiet nature for being somewhat of an ignorant prude but are far from correct. He can be rather playful at time, and is the type of person to even make an inappropriate joke when someone would least expect it. Although for the most part he is rather composed, once he feels comfortable enough someone he is much less guarded and will be a bit more open. Deep down Nikola has a romantic side that is just filling with desire to be allowed freedom, but this is a side he typically keeps suppressed only letting it out in small doses. This romantic side of him just longs to enchant someone, and make them feel as though they are the only one who matters in the world. Nikola is a firm believer in soul mates, and certainly a believer in destiny. He knows that his true love is out there, and it is only a matter of time before he finds them. Then there is the bard side of Nikola which seems to possess about half of his personality, the struggling artist who goes from muse to muse writing down his beliefs, thoughts, and emotions and using the pen as a tool of expression. Nikola’s bard is like another side of him, but also a very important side because this is exactly the person he began to become when he was unable to find friendship within other children. Rather than going outside and playing like most boys, he stayed indoors observing the world and writing about the beauty of it. He also spent a lot of his time reading, and studying much folklore and mythology too. The bard within Nikola can be a bit overly dramatic, somewhat of a lost soul, who claims to be looking for something that he cannot find…rather it be a muse or his love. Nikola has had many muses in the past, and many of them were unaware of his admiration. He is not always open about who he chooses to admire, but when he does he tends to stick with that person for a good amount of time before moving on. Each muse is selected carefully after much subtle observation, and the selection is rather sporadic. His interests change all the time, as well as who he desires to write about, but many people he does choose to write about go unaware of such happenings. Nikola is too discrete to really let it always be known, although every now and then he feels compelled to slide a bit of poetry under someone’s door and give it to them anonymously just perhaps as a kind (or even spiteful in rare cases) gesture. Also, Nikola would like it to be known that just because he is choosing someone as a muse does not always mean this person is someone he is affectionate towards or perhaps even someone he has a crush on. A muse has been someone he dislikes before because Nikola is quite an unusual bard. He is a secretly romantic sometimes cheeky bard who is calculating and quiet but certainly not shy. Thicker than water -Father: Adam Duncan, 46 -Mother: Muriel Duncan, 47 -Siblings: Alisa Duncan 19, Cara Duncan 11 -Pets: Numerous farm animals -Place of Birth: Lanark, Scotland -Current Residence: Bangor, Maine (St. Gabes) History: As forementoned, Nikola’s parents are Muriel and Adam Duncan both of whom are currently residing in Lanark, Scotland. Nikola’s nontraditional name came from a close friend of Muriel and Adam’s who had recently passed away at the time, which is how it was given to him. Nikola was born with a congenital heart defect, and his parents were worried that their poor child was not going to make it. After many months of surgery and intensive care however, they were fortunate to learn that Nikola would in fact be fine. To this day he still has a small scar on his chest from the surgery, and he still has to take medication to help prevent certain infections since he is more susceptible to them. Nikola has led an odd childhood because of his natural propensity towards certain interests. Nikola preferred reading, drawing, singing, and writing poetry and was teased about it when growing up. However, Nikola did not let such things weigh heavily on his mind which was why he typically kept to himself and did his work alone until his parents finally agreed to home school him when he started showing up with bruises and cuts. Nikola however never held a grudge, and simply let his frustration out on paper which was his saving grace for that time. Not having thought much about writing, he grew up unaware of his talents for a long part of his childhood until his mother noticed his natural talent. Having been noted this his mother immediately agreed to Nikola off where he could get a better education at St. Gabrielles. Having never been extremely close to his parents, Nikola did not really mind leaving for St. Gabrielles although he was sad he was going to have to leave behind his hometown of Lanark which he had grown to love over time despite the hardships he faced growing up. He also has his best friend there Effie, with whom he had grown up with, she one of Nikola’s only close friends and has known him for most of his life. He is also quite fond of his youngest sister Cara, who he is most close with in his family because she seems to share similar interests. Otherwise, Nikola does not have much attachment back home to his parents, or his sister Alisa although he was a bit sad at first to leave Effie and Cara, but has now come to terms with the fact that he is going on a new adventure here at St. Gabrielles.
