Powell will turn 26 this weekend. Looking back at his SB's over the past seven years, we see an obvious progression.

2002 - 10.12
2003 - 10.03
2004 - 9.87
2005 - 9.77
2006 - 9.77
2007 - 9.74
2008 - 9.72

How long can he continue at this trajectory? Not talking medals,etc.. just this streak of annual PRs?

At the very least, I say he continues his streak for 1-2 more seasons.

That probably means sub9.7 (perhaps multiple times), right?

I think the main reason we've seen this type of progression from an elite runner is because of his relatively late start. This wasn't a guy who's been running since he was 13-14. If 2001 as his 1st real year of competiting, then it would seem natural that he would show this kind of progress year to year. I don't think he has more than a couple years of improvent either. But I do see room for improvement. Also if you use his basic times for those seasons, you'll see an even more gradual progression.

I still say he should run the 200m more often.

That is quite a remarkable progression. When Powell is on he is poetry in motion. I think he can get the 9.6X next year and beat Bolt a few times on the circuit. Can he PR twice next year?

I dunno what his "plateau" is, but i still say he's a 9.6. Before Bolt came, i think everybody said Safa is/was a 9.6 in the waiting... But on the other hand running 9.9-9.7 like that is going to catch up.

I think AP will run 9.65 this year maybe 9.58 and lose in Berlin. And I am serious about it!
