Are persons on Sprintzone real genuine track and field fans or just casual fans who pop when an athletics event is going on.

How long we been doing this bro? What 10 years or so? Ah yes the memories. For many of us here, it did start back in those old Sub10 days with Jacob at the helm. What a trip that was. Not in a long story telling mood (there is a long story to be told however) right now but I will say that being able to share one of my true passions in my life with others who also have the love has been a real thrill. For years, actually decades I had nobody to talk with about my speed addiction (ha~) something we all can identify with.

As far as the ...Casual or Real Track fans...question goes. Wondering how Tuskegees Mozelle Ellerbe would have done if there had of been a 1940 Olympics or would Temples Eulace Peacock have beaten Jesse Owens out of Ohio State in Berlin in 36....casual?????

About 10 years! wow....that flew by. Of all the original sub 10 "rookies" that you happened upon that day,, I'm the only one left. That's probably why of all the people here from sub 10, I am the one who holds that place closest to my heart. If it weren't for the internet and message board like sub 10 and now sprintzone, a lot of us track fans didn't really have that many people to talk to. Shoot, even some guys I ran track with weren't fans of the sport per se. When you are in the mood, please tell the story on this thread. I just like reading it from your perspective.....you have a great way of telling it. Lets keep it going another 10 bro.

Years before there was the internet and home computers I was already knee deep into track. I kept (still do) index cards on schools and who they producted as far as the 100,200,400,LJ,110's went.

9.4/10.29
20.9
45.9
25ft
13.9

....were the critera used. If a school had two athletes than met those standards. A card. I continually upgrade. Yes Jesse Owens is still long jumping at Ohio State, still on the 4x1 cool.gif It will be a sad day when he gets...erased.

Anyway....

So by the time we bought a home computer and I started doing this I was ready...ha! I was trained rolleyes.gif

It took me a few weeks to finally end up on a messageboard. I was simply Larry and the board was...Track & Field Media. My first ever post was something about USC sprinting. Then here comes the resident bully..."hey numbnuts, we don't give a shxxt about sprinting here, we talk distance running...ok?"(something like that) A couple weeks later after schooling them on Paavo Nurmi, Emil Zatopek, Tommy Longboat etc etc. It was now..."dude....wow!" Yep I realized this trip was tailor made for me.

Still wanting to talk sprinting I went in seach of someplace to do that. Not sure how I did stumble upon Sub10. I remembered..."hey numbnuts"...from my first encounter on a messageboard. So this time I would..."I'm here now and...." ..hahahahaha!!!!! That got the predicted..."big deal, who in the hell are you?" Then after a couple weeks of battling you, Wyz, fLaSh and others..."dude...wow!" I was now... biggrin.gif

It was a hell of a trip after that. Finally a place where others knew who Bob Hayes was and could talk speed. I was like a pig in slop. Loved it! Jacob asking me to run monthly trivia contest. It did last a couple months.

Jacob was a cool dude, if not for him..hmmm? Then he decided he was just too busy to deal with Sub10 anymore so he'd keep the board up but we'd need to handle things ourselves. He did e-mail me asking if I'd be interested in moderating the place. I told him...nope! So ...what was her name again...Ann?...took over. A little vague on just how I would finally end up in charge. Not that I had any real power....I didn't. I was more like the big bad wolf...I'll huff and I'll puff and.....do nothing..hahaha!!!!!!

Sub10 was about as free as a board can be, we had those two rules.....no cussing in the message title, no multiple personalities. Human nature being as it is, if something is that good somebody will screw it up. They did! We did however have some good years there of sharing a passion we all shared. It remains a fond memory and I have yet to find what we once had there, yep...special! A once in a lifetime deal....Sub10.
