Not something much, just that these guys can run great at 200m and have an advantage over a guy at 200m who has similar 100 time, but slower 400m it means lower level of speed endurance. Maybe it can help as well running rounds

Hmm two cats never broke 20 ... So it didn't really help them much ... And ironically they were both great turn runners ...

Missed Steve Williams 9.9/44.8 (19.8)

Actually Mitchell rarely ran the 200m's on the pro level. He mostly did the flat sprint. I am without a doubt in belief, that he could have run sub 20.00. I remember he ran 20.20 or something like that when he decided to run the 200m's at US Champs after competing in the 100m's. Mind you he did not run the 200m's that yr. He came in like 6th, but when you can make the final and drop a 20.20 without running the event much, that speaks volumes. Mitchell was also a 46.02 400m runner in his HS days. wink.gif

I dont know who are these two guys, but maybe they havent run 200m when they were at their peak form or simply saying maybe they were capable of running sub 20 just never came that right day. Same like MJ ran that 19.32 once and never faster like under 19.6 again. In addition we need to look at how consistent these two cats were at running sub 10, if not much then its even harder get a right race and run sub 20.

Are there any sprinters who are/were capable of running under 10sec (but not sub 9.90) and run sub 20 as well at 200m, but never sub 46sec at 400m, if they ran that event at all?

Hmmmm, good question.

Maybe John Capel, as I think his bests are 9.95/19.86. However I could very well be wrong.

Rodney Martin ran 9.96/19.99 at US trials last yr and I don't recall him ever running a 400m race.

As we see not much. Even if these two sprinters never ran 400m or even if they did, but not ran sub 46, it doesn't mean that their bodies weren't capable of doing it. Just when not main event like 400m, not all sprinters get 100% at it b/c don't waist much time in training for a right 400m race pace and not all can force themselves to run for a 100% effort.
Simple general formula for a great 200m time, it means sufficient/great speed endurance is to double 100mPB like having 9.80 would convert to 19.60 and I see not many sprinters can do it.
