Back from break. In a strange way it was good to be back; see all those smiling faces. Perhaps the teens would not be all that happy today. No one usually was when break was over. Also, Miss Chelsea Taylor had a little surprise in store for all her students this morning. A surprise that would get some verbal moans and groans. Either way it had to be done.

Chelsea had gotten to class a bit early, as usual. At the moment she was looking through one of the books to write their bell work on the board. It was simple really. Every morning Miss Taylor would write something from the book onto the board, the students would come in and get started looking up, reading, and answering the questions. There were usually just ten questions that the students had to do and get done before actual class began. Miss Taylor always made sure there would be enough time so no one felt as if they were being rushed. After bell work was handed in class work would follow.

As she was waiting for all her shining stars to fall into the room and take their seats, Miss Taylor began humming a happy random tune.

Ah...the sweet familiar smell of school. It was nice to be back...sort of. Krysta really had wanted to sleep in. The whole five more minutes mom routine had been played out about three times this morning. Now she was back. Krysta had her things and went straight to class where she saw Miss Taylor writing on the board. After letting out a little yawn, Krys took her seat and said; "Good morning Miss Taylor." After, she then proceded to take out a piece of paper and write down what was on the board. Same old routine.

Oh what a wonderful day so far! Celestia was very happy. She just could not wait until the end of school. Movie, dinner, and dancing. What could make the day better? Hmm...no homework. Celestia did a little spin before entering the classroom; the bottom of her purple, yellow, and green layered skirt spinning out just a tad. Her red hair following in suit with the spin. Weee!!!

"Good morning Miss Taylor!" Celestia said cheerfully as she skipped into the room, and to a seat. "Hello Krysta." Celestia acknowleged her classmate. She then turned to face frontwards. "Lovely day." Celestia pulled out some paper from her folder as well as a pen and got started with the questions on the board.

Miss Taylor stopped her humming when she heard one of her students walk through the door. One down, only a few more to go. Chelsea didn't need to turn to see who it was. She had every students footsteps memorized by now, but she turned around anyhow. "Good morning Krysta." Miss Taylor replied cheerfully as she dusted the chalk from her hands. She didn't get to say much more as Celestia walk, or rather skip through the door.

"Good morning Celestia. Having a good day I take it." Chels said with a smile as she sat in her chair and scooted it in, and began the rest of the preperation. It was nice to see the students again. It was also nice to see them go right to work. "Remember, if you have any questions don't be afraid to raise your hand." Something she always said, and always meant. Chelsea looked to her watch then the clock in the room. A few more minutes then she'd start with attendance.

"Just a perfectly wonderful start to the day is all!" Celestia replied looking at Miss Taylor briefly with a smile before she continued on with her work. Who wouldn't be happy if they got a start to the new day back to school as she did? She was not going to be ace when the clock struck three. Hopefully it would be better than bammerwee.

Number five. Celestia had to get out her note book to answer that one. She flipped through the pages to find it. Come on answer...don't allude me. Ah! Found It! Celestia now quietly went on with her work.

Krysta had looked up when she had heard her name. She smiled at Celestia. "Good morning." Krysta acknowledged her classmate, politely. She then shortly after went back to the work at hand. Though it was just ten simple little questions, Krysta had to get them answered all correctly. She had to! When it came to school work, and little details of school work Krys would not allow herself to get bad marks or be distracted.

However it was hard not to be a little distracted when it seemed a conversation might pick up. Miss Taylor was one teacher that liked to get to know her all her students. At the beginning of the year the teacher had them all fill out a little card about themselves. Likes, dislikes, etc. Nothing wrong with that of course. It was good to know people; helped you help them better if they ever needed it. But what was the perfectly wonderful start to the day?

A few more students filed their way into class. Chelsea gave a nod and a hello to each. Chelsea smiled, pleased that all her students were going about their routine work without complaint. None that were vocal at least. Chelsea looked to her watch and the clock in the room again. She always waited as long as she was able before taking attendance, and she had currently waited as long as she could for today.

Standing, Miss Taylor picked up the attendance sheet, and began marking who was present, and who was absent. There were only a few empty seats; which of course she knew who was missing. Though not her job, she'd compile all the work for the students that were missing at the end of the day, and write on little sticky notes the instructions.

Miss Taylor would hate for anyone to fall behind. Attendance was through with, Chelsea closed the book and put it in it's holder on her desk. She then got up and closed the door as the late bell was about to ring in five seconds. Chelsea then went back behind her desk, and prepared the papers for hand out. The five seconds were up and the bell rang.

At that time, one by one, the students came up and placed their bell work in the black tray on the shelf up against the wall before taking their seats again. Chelsea was waiting until everyone was seated again before she passed out what she was going to.

Krysta had been one of the first students to finish, but one of the last to hand the paper in. She wanted to double check every answer to the question to make certain that she had answered correctly. When she was sure Krysta handed in her paper, and took her seat again, and prepared herself for whatever else was to come their way. Well, prepare as much as possible. No one knew exactly what Miss Taylor was going to touch on this morning.

Chelsea picked up the papers on her desk and walked around to the front of it. She looked at each student to make sure all were listening, and not chatting to the person next to, in front, or behind them. All looked good. With a smile Chelsea began. "Okay class, I know most of you are going to find this completely unfair, and be really bumbed, so you all have permission to moan and groan for a little bit...especially since you just got back from your lovely little break."

Miss Taylor held up the papers in her hand. "Pop quiz!" Chelsea announced happily with a smile to match. And as expected some of the students did groan, and others put their heads on their desks. It was rare that Chelsea ever gave a pop quiz. Usually she'd tell the students in her class, so they could have time to study at home, in turn allowing better marks for those who wanted them.

Chelsea began counting off the papers, and handing them to the person in the front row. "Take one and pass them back please. Don't start until I say go." Chelsea said as she watched to make sure everyone got handed a quiz. Once they were all distributed Chelsea looked at the clock and her watch. Fair time for a fair amount of work. "Alright class, you may begin."

Totally bumbed! Why was Miss Taylor doing this?! The unexpected horror of a pop quiz! Celestia had been one of the students to let her head fall to her desk. Ouch! Celestia lifted her head and lightly rubbed her forehead just in time to see a paper being passed back to her. Thanks a lot.
Celestia took one and passed it back. Hmm...

"I don't suppose your offer of 'if we need help just raise our hands' still stands?" Celestia questioned Miss Taylor as she looked over the questions on her paper. No fun. This is why summer vacations were a very good thing.

Pop quiz?! Oh no! No! No! No! Not good. Miss Taylor just about sent Krysta through the roof with panic. What happened to study time? Krysta liked study time. It's what helped her get her good grades. Oh. Krys took one and passed the rest back. She looked over some of the questions and tried to calm herself down. You know this stuff. You know this stuff. Krys inhaled then exhaled. Okay. She picked up her pencil, and waited for Miss Taylor to say the word. When she did, Krysta just about sped off writing and thinking about the answers; so much so that she hadn't even heard Celestia's question.

Chelsea couldn't help, but lightly chuckle at Celestias' question. Somehow she just had a feeling that someone would say something. "Not right now, no." Miss Taylor replied gently, yet still with a smile. "If you do get stuck on one skip it, and you can come back to the question later."

Chelsea walked through the isles of the class for just a minute to make sure all were fairing okay. Seeing that they appeared to be she went and picked up the papers for the bell work, sat down, and began to grade them.

Hmm... Krysta was looking over each question carefully, and writing her answers quickly. Such speed. If one stared long enough one might sware they saw smoke coming from the paper from the contact with the pencil. Zoom! Zoom! Zoom! Recheck time. Krysta gave a nod at each as she looked it over. Some of the answers she decided to change or rewrite. Oh, she'd be in a frenzy until this pop quiz was graded.

Blast. Oh well, that's life. Celestia just did her best...which was all Miss Taylor ever asked of them. Even so, Celestia was a little aloof about the pop quiz. She'd had more than her fair share after all. Celestia slouched in her seat as she slowly finished the quiz. No big deal. She was getting good marks so far. Hmm. I think I'll change this one. As Celestia went about the quiz, she found herself doodling on the paper when she was thinking. No one complained before; okay...not in this class. Do, do, do, do...

One by one, Chelsea went through grading the handed in bell work with a red pen, and stickers. Chelsea was just one of those teachers that would put stickers on the papers that said 'way to go!', 'super!', 'great job!', etc. She also liked the happy face stickers. If it was stuck with a sticker it generly meant that Miss Taylor had graded your paper.

So, while the students were taking their pop quiz Chelsea was busy looking at the answer key, and putting the marks down on the paper, and in the grade books. Each year, and class had its own grade book. Thank goodness for the ABCs, and 123s. It was the only thing that made grading, and putting the marks in the right book easier.

Miss Taylor glanced up at the clock then looked out to the students to see how things were coming along. Some of them looked stressed, but that was to be expected. Soon though, time would be up. For now, Chelsea went back to her grading.
