WIDBODE : LIFE THROUGH A VAMPIRE’S EYES
“You idiots!” he shouted at the vampires clustered around the body. “That’s not just anyone, that’s Rafael’s daughter!”
That wiped the smiles off of their faces.
“You sure…?” the vampire closest to him said, peering down into her face.
“Positive.” Armin answered grimly.
He looked down at the unconscious fleshy lying on the asphalt in the alley. She was bleeding freely from a deep wound in her neck. Her arms were covered in blood and her clothes were torn. Man, they hadn’t exactly been stingy, had they? She was in quite a state. Armin felt a twinge of sympathy towards the fleshy, but he pushed that aside quickly. He had work to do thanks to these idiots.
“You should have checked who she was before pulling the plug!” he shouted, pushing the vampire nearest him. He flew across the alley and hit the wall with a dull thud. The other vampires scattered like dominos but their leader stayed.
“Take it easy, dude.” Gray Lurraxol said. “You don’t wonna go doing stuff that you’re later going to regret.”
“Do you know what Rafael is going to do to you once he finds out some sleazebag turned his daughter without his permission?!” Armin threw his hands to his face in despair. “And because I’m the one who’s supposed to be patrolling this area, I’ll get in even more trouble for not stopping you!”
“Hey, who you calling sleazebag?” Gray said, poking him hard in the chest with a dirty finger.
Armin just waved his hand away half heartedly.
“Give it a rest, Gray, you know you are one.”
His mind was racing. All he could think of was how much trouble he was going to get in. He could just imagine Rafael’s face when he forced the information out of him and the way he’d call for the guards to drag him off to the torture chambers.
“Besides, who says we turned her?” Gray said, licking his lips greedily.
Armin stopped what he was doing and turned to the vampire.
“Yep. We didn’t turn her. Or at least I think we didn’t. We’ll just have to wait and see, I guess.”
Above them, the sky was starting to slowly turn a deep shade of blue. In a couple of hours the sun would be up.
“What are we going t’ do?” Gary asked.
“I know a place where I can take her. It’s not far from here.”
He scooped her up in his arms as if she were as light as a feather. The smell of blood was enough to make any vampire go crazy. What he would give to just dig his fangs into her and eat. But fear kept him at bay.
“Uh uh uh.” Armin said, wagging a finger at Gray who had shown every sign of getting ready to follow him to the caves. “You’re not coming with us. You’ve caused too much trouble already.”
“But what am I going to do?”
“I dunno.” Armin shrugged. “Come up with something to say to Rafael when he finds out.”
Then he turned and ran as fast as he could manage with a bleeding fleshy in his arms to the Widbode woods. He had to get them there before the sun came up. Otherwise he and the Ivanova girl would be more than just dead meat.
