The Viscottis’ Tales at Pesky Peek
CHAPTER NINETEEN: Shoplifting ![]() This couldn’t be true. She had practically caught him flirting with another woman! That conniving prat! She was going to kill him the next time they met. First she was going to slap him, then she was going to kick him in the crutch. She was going to tear every limb from his body. Rip his heart out and then she was going to… “I think you have something that belongs to us, ma’am.” A strong hand gripped her shoulder, making Liz jump and stop breathing. She turned to look into a pair of black sunglasses that were sitting on a nose that looked oddly squashed as if it was broken. The sunglasses and nose belonged to a tall, bold black man wearing a black suit that fitted perfectly across his broad shoulders. “I – I’m sorry. You’re talking to me?” Liz stammered, her heart beating quickly. “Will you come inside with me, please, ma’am. No funny business or I’ll call the police.” He started steering her back to the shop and she could do nothing but follow. Liz was completely baffled at what was happening. She could hardly think. What was going on here? “Who – who are you to be doing this?” she demanded weakly. He didn’t answer, just tapped a badge that was pinned onto his breast pocket. Liz’s eyes widened. He was a guard. The man took her inside the corner shop. Vince was still flirting with that woman and Liz suddenly felt like attacking him. When he spotted her with the guard he looked just as abashed as she was. The woman, however, had a satisfied expression on her face. Liz gritted her teeth and it took her a great deal of effort not to stick her middle finger up at her. The stupid cow had set her up! The guard led her into a room with a ‘STAFF ONLY’ sign hanging on the door. This couldn’t be good. Inside the room there were a couple of chairs, a coffee machine and a coffee table. “Sit down, please, ma’am.” The guard said in his deep and rather scary voice. The woman from the till slid in through the door and stood in front of a very angry looking Liz. “I demand to know what this is about!” Liz ordered, still standing up. “Sit down, please, ma’am.” The guard repeated, a little harsher this time. Liz glared at him and then flopped herself down in the nearest seat. “I caught you shoplifting in the women’s section.” The woman said in a silky voice. “Shoplifting? Me? Are you mad?!” Liz exclaimed. “We caught you on cam so own up.” The woman sneered, with her hands on her hips. “Return the things you stole and we won’t get the police involved.” Said the guard. It was impossible to tell what his expression was because of the sunglasses. Liz was about to say something very rude when it hit her. In her hurry to get out and plan a way to take revenge on Vince, she had forgotten to pay for the pregnancy test that was still shoved in her bag. She had forgotten it all together! Feeling very embarrassed, she got out it out from her bag and explained that she had forgotten to pay for it. The woman and guard didn’t seem convinced but they didn’t argue when she paid them and gave them both a tip as a sorry. Vince was waiting for her outside the door by the till. “What was that all about?” he asked quietly as soon as she came out. Liz ignored him and walked out of the shop. He followed. When they were outside he said, “What did they get the guards for? What did you do?” With the smallest smile on her lips, Liz said not looking at him. “I was caught shoplifting.” >> Next Chapter |
