Lunch was downstairs, in a glassed in atrium that would be perfect for a romantic date without two rambunctious children. As it was, they squabbled over the crayons the waitress brought and then fell silent, absorbed in some sort of contest involving their children's menus.
Sinead wasn't sure what to say so she gave the menu far more attention than it deserved. Since getting her figure back the only thing she ever ordered was a salad.
"The world's a funny place, isn't it," said Richard Capp.
She looked up and their eyes met and she felt something she hadn't felt in years: an electric current that went right to her core. It wasn't just that he was handsome. He was smart and fearless, a deadly combination where Sinead was concerned. She had never particularly liked men who played it safe.
"Yes," she said. "Of all the places I thought I might run into you again, this would have to be last on the list."
"You thought about when you might see me again?" he asked, a catlike smile curving up one side of his mouth.
"If I had thought about it, I meant," she said.
"I see." The smile grew. Oh, great, he was arrogant too. She might as well strip off her clothes right here and have done with it. From the look in his eyes she could tell his thoughts were running along much the same lines. The air between them fairly crackled. "Any chance of you and I going out, sans twins, say, Saturday night?"
"What does sans mean?" Bronwyn asked.
"It means like on a beach," her twin replied. "Duh."
"The beach sounds nice," Sinead said, a bit dazed.
Richard positively grinned at her. "Well, I was thinking of the Veronaville, but I'm flexible."
"That works too." Good goddess, was she blushing?
Mercifully, the waitress showed up at that moment. Lunch was full of handing people things and wiping up spills and settling disputes. When they were finished Sinead felt like she could use a nap. She wasn't sure how Richard managed to raise two children alone. She could barely handle them for lunch.
But damn, their father was sexy. So when he said, "So, Saturday night, meet me at the Veronaville at 8?" she naturally said yes.
